As soon as we opened the door to our room, it was a very strong smell of smoke/weed. Even our 3 minor children asked what the smell was. We went down to the front desk to address the issue. There were no other comparable rooms for us to switch into. We were offered a smaller room. Instead we took a spray back to our room that is apparently used to cover the smell of smoke. The spray was readily available right behind the check in desk. We sprayed the room but it did absolutely nothing. After a LONG day driving in the car, we decided just to go to bed. At 9:54 p.m., our room phone rang. It was someone at the front desk asking for us to leave the smoke spray in the hall by our door if we were done using it. The next morning, we woke up and went to breakfast. When we returned to our room, the smell was just as strong. I guess we unfortunately just became used to it while we were sleeping. Upon check out, I again brought up the strong smell in our room. The person at the front desk said he saw our issue in the notes and offered us some IHG points. He said that there is usually an "Ozone" machine they put in rooms if there is a smell of smoke. Sitting in the car, 30 minutes after leaving the hotel, our clothes smell like smoke. Neither my husband or I are smokers. We have 3 children, ages 10 and under.

While the overall aim is a pleasant environment, one highly concerning customer review noted a "very strong smell of smoke/weed" in their assigned room, which persisted despite attempts to mask it with a spray offered by the front desk. This suggests potential inconsistencies in room preparation or maintenance, and guests should be aware of this possibility. The hotel is generally a non-smoking property, but this review highlights a challenge with adherence in some instances.
The services at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Allentown Cen - Dorneyville are designed for convenience, especially focusing on a quick and easy start to the day. Free Wi-Fi and wired internet access are available in all guest rooms and public areas. For business needs, there is a business center. Housekeeping services are provided daily. However, the customer review also points to potential shortcomings in service recovery; despite acknowledging the room issue, the hotel's proposed solution (offering points rather than an immediate, comparable room change or ozone treatment) and the reported availability of "smoke spray" behind the desk could raise questions about proactive problem-solving and guest satisfaction protocols. The general expectation for Holiday Inn Express is a friendly and helpful staff, but the specific interaction mentioned in the review indicates a varied experience.

Apr 27, 2025 · Tricia HotalingOf Combs and Contradictions – A Tale of Tangles and Bureaucracy Ah, the Holiday Inn Express—where the pillows are plush, the coffee caffeinated, and the signage? Positively literary. In my room, a charming little sign (pictured) boldly declared: “FORGOT IT? WE’VE GOT EXTRA.” Toothbrush? Yes. Razor? Certainly. Comb? Most vital of all? “That,” said the front desk gravely, “is six dollars.” I presented the sign like a lawyer unveiling Exhibit A in the Case of the Mangled Morning Mane. They nodded... and still asked for six dollars. The bed was cozy, the water hot, and the toothbrush free—so I offer three stars, no grudge. But dear traveler, if your hair needs taming, bring your own comb... or six dollars and a sense of humor.
Apr 19, 2025 · sumesh madanWe had a very clean and comfortable room, and all of the staff are very friendly. There is a nice variety of things on offer for breakfast, and a few different things that are offered on different days. I will definitely stay here again when I’m back in the area.
Mar 15, 2025 · Sharon DuBoisI booked the holiday hotel through booking.com for a week, and I paid the whole cost in advance. Unfortunately, my flight had been canceled because of the tornado, and I arrived the next day at midnight. The holiday hotel didn't give me my room, and their excuse was that I did not check-in for the first day; they gave my room to someone else. When I asked for my money, they said ask of booking.com. You can imagine how hard it was and I had to look to find the hotel in the middle of a cold night after a long flight. I'm not recommending this hotel at all. They're unprofessional and untrusted.
Mar 18, 2025 · Zahra SarembafandeThe staff was friendly, and courteous. The free breakfast was very nice, the hotel felt very clean. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but this hotel is popular with families. I was there for only an evening, but the sounds of children running, jumping, yelling, and crying persisted through the night. I could not get much sleep due to the noise. Great hotel for families, but I don’t think I will be staying there again.
