We chose this hotel when booking a vacation in Madison, WI to see Cave of the Mounds and House on the Rock because of the water playground. We stayed 3 days/2 nights. Everything was very clean. The staff were nice and available. There is a restaurant on site that serves a terrific breakfast with a warm host. The water playground was smaller than we thought based on the pictures and, with birthday parties taking place, did get easily crowded. There were 2 lifeguards on staff while the area was open, which was a great idea. They did actively patrol the water and surrounding areas in the pool room. The pool area was well-maintained, and the water was a nice temperature. Our 6 year old loved it. We do wish that the pool area was open earlier, as 9am is close to check out time and little kids wake up way earlier. I do also wish the bar was open later. The sign said until 10pm, which is an hour after the pool area closes, but when I went to get a drink at 9:40pm, no one was around. The alcohol in the marketplace gets locked down at 9pm. We would absolutely visit again.

Great value for the money! The place features a small water park, perfect for a refreshing break during a road trip. We stayed here on our journey from Chicago to Minneapolis, and since we got a late start on Friday, we were glad to have chosen this spot. The rooms were very clean and spacious, the breakfast was excellent, and the water park was a nice bonus. Overall, we loved it and think it’s a great choice for a weekend getaway, especially if you’re visiting House on the Rock and Cave of the Mounds. Will definitely choose the place if we get to visit Madison again.

I wanted to leave this review as a warning and heads up to any potential future guests. We stayed here last week and had a very poor experience start to finish. We booked the hotel because of the pool area for our 3 small kids. Thought it would be fun after a long day in the car. I will say- that was the only positive of the stay- it was perfect entertainment for 2 hours of play. The staff was far from friendly and welcoming when we checked in and when we got to the room it was pretty run down and definitely in need of a refresh- pieces held in place by scotch tape on the side tables, etc. We decided, whatever, it’d be fine for one night for the sake of fun for the kids. We enjoyed the pool and then came up to bathe and there was no hot water. I ran the water for a solid 5 minutes on full-heat with only ice cold water. I called down to ask if there was an issue with the water and the front desk told me that rooms on the top floor needed to run the water for at least 15 minutes for it to heat up. Seemed very odd to me but I left it running to try. Still nothing. I called and updated them and they told me I was the only one experiencing this and they could move me to another room. At this point we were unpacked and our kids were headed toward bed (and I doubted it would be any better in another room) so we decided to stay and try again later that night or in the morning. Went to take a shower/wash face, etc in the morning and still nothing but ice cold water. When my husband enquired at the front desk about they said it was a hotel-wide issue and they were taking room numbers so they could reach out with a resolution. He left our info and we checked out. Later that night we checked into another hotel and still had heard nothing from the Holiday Inn so I sent an email to address it. I was told by Nick that they would be discussing the issue as a management staff over the weekend (this was Friday) and I would hear back with their solution no later than Monday. Unsurprisingly, by Monday night I had heard nothing so I sent a follow up email. The reply the next day was essentially a “sorry you had this problem, we’ll handle it better in the future but we won’t be compensating anyone for the inconvenience since it was out of our control”. This communicates to me the value of their bottom line very clearly over their guests and the money we are choosing to spend with them when we could be (and will certainly in the future) staying anywhere else. So word of warning- this hotel clearly does not care about you as the customer and your experience or comfort during your time with them, they care about getting your money and seeing you off. On top of this, I filled out a survey sent from IHG with our experience and all they did was reach out to say “sorry for your experience”, offering no resolution. I then reached out via another measure and have yet to hear anything in response. Through this whole mess we were led to believe a solution and compensation would be offered only to be hit with the “sorry, not sorry” in the end. IHG and Holiday Inn had an easy opportunity to make us (with zero current loyalty to their brand) very loyal returning customers by handling this situation with a swift, caring response and instead have left us with an experience that has us telling everyone of how poorly we were treated and avoiding their brands for ones that we know will take care of us moving forward.

I couldn't possibly recommend a hotel more. If you're looking for a fun little getaway in Wisconsin with young kids, book the One Bedroom Suite with the bunk bed. The room is spacious with ample drawers and closet space. The bunk bed is in it's own little secluded space with a wall. The Buenvenitos Restaurant food is to die for. The breakfast was great. We brought our own lunch supplies. To our surprise, our room had another door on the opposite end that leads out to a balcony with stairs down to the waterpark!! The Waterpark is clean and well-suited for younger kids - infants through elementary school age. There is a bar in the pool area as well as the lobby and one in the restaurant. Staff has been friendly and helpful. We are having so much fun spending the weekend here!

I'm leaving a 1 star review for this place despite the location of the property was nice, and the front desk and all staff I encountered were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, my room was not as clean as it could have been. Drink rings on the furniture, shower was disgusting, bathroom floor did not look mopped, bedding had hair that was not mine in it.... Outside of the rooms, the hallways were messy and unvacuumed. Unaccompanied children were running and yelling up and down the hallways. The floor by the elevator in the lobby was incredibly wet and caused me to slip and fall due to the water park being right next to it. I Would HIGHLY suggest putting a rug down. And on top of all that, I was double charged for my room. The front desk reassured me it was corrected to the correct rate, but still - not a good impression. I would never stay here or at any other Holiday Inn every again.
