For local users and travelers considering "Hotels Near Of Me" in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the Horseshoe Curve Lodge, located at 2906 Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602, USA, may appear as an option, particularly for those on a tight budget. The lodge can be reached by phone at (814) 944-3555 or mobile at +1 814-944-3555. While it aims to provide economical lodging, it is essential for prospective guests to approach this option with a clear understanding of recent customer experiences, which indicate significant inconsistencies in quality and service.
The environment of the Horseshoe Curve Lodge, as depicted by recent guest reviews, presents a challenging picture. One of the most critical issues repeatedly mentioned is the pervasive "smell" in the rooms, described as so bad that guests didn't even want to stay in their assigned space. This suggests potential underlying maintenance problems, such as "broken pipes," or severe issues with air quality and freshness. Beyond odors, the physical condition of the property has also drawn negative comments, with observations that the lodge is "very run down, dirty facilities." Some reviews mention an overall "shabby" and "outdated" feel, and specific instances of a "plant growing out of our sink" and a "cockroach" in the room underscore significant concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. While some recent reviews (from late 2024 to early 2025) note ongoing renovations and improvements, suggesting an attempt to "bring life back to it," the consistency of negative feedback regarding cleanliness and the general state of disrepair is a crucial factor for potential guests to consider. The location on Pleasant Valley Boulevard offers proximity to local attractions, such as the actual Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark and the Railroaders Memorial Museum, which could be a convenient environmental factor for those interested in these specific points of interest.
In terms of services, the customer experience at Horseshoe Curve Lodge appears to be highly inconsistent and, in several documented cases, severely lacking. Reviewers describe being "welcomed very rudely" upon arrival and being forced to wait "several hours for my room to be ready" without explanation, and were even denied permission to wait on a couch in the lobby. This suggests a significant absence of basic hospitality and consideration for guest comfort. Instances of staff being "too busy to serve me cause she was on the phone been a snitch" further highlight a lack of professionalism and attentiveness. There are also reports of "no personnel when checking out in the morning," contributing to an "abandoned feeling." While some reviews do mention "helpful staff" and "great customer service," these positive comments appear alongside very strong negative experiences, leading to a highly polarized view of the service quality. The provision of services like daily housekeeping, which is generally expected, has been questionable given the cleanliness issues reported. The lodge offers free self-parking and free WiFi in rooms and public areas, which are standard services for budget accommodation.
The features offered at Horseshoe Curve Lodge are generally basic, aligning with a budget motel. Rooms typically include air conditioning, private bathrooms (often with shower/tub combinations and rainfall showerheads), 50-inch flat-screen TVs with premium channels, desks, and irons/ironing boards. Some rooms are also reported to have a microwave and refrigerator, which can be convenient for guests. However, the functionality and comfort of these features have been heavily criticized. The "uncomfortable mattress" is a recurring complaint, with guests stating they "couldn’t even fall asleep." Showers have been described as "borderline" or "wimpy," and there was a report of a lack of a stopper in a bathtub. While the hotel does not offer a pool, some sources mention a "lobby sitting area." Safety features like smoke detectors, a security system, and a first aid kit are reportedly on-site. It's important to note that the property does not have elevators, which could be a factor for guests with mobility issues.
Regarding promotional information, the primary draw for Horseshoe Curve Lodge appears to be its economical price point. For travelers specifically searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with the absolute lowest cost as their main priority, this lodge may appear in search results. However, prospective guests are strongly urged to consider the extensive and severe negative feedback from past customers. Reviews explicitly state, "Pay more somewhere else, even if it’s just for one night," and advise to "avoid this place at all costs." The low price seems to come at a significant cost to guest comfort, cleanliness, and service quality. While the lodge is reportedly undergoing renovations, the current reviews indicate that these improvements have not yet consistently addressed the fundamental issues that are impacting guest stays. Any promotional claims should be evaluated against the stark realities described by recent visitors. It is highly recommended that individuals seeking accommodation in Altoona prioritize properties with consistently positive reviews, even if it means a slightly higher price, to ensure a comfortable and satisfactory experience.
In summary, Horseshoe Curve Lodge in Altoona, PA, while potentially offering a very low price, presents a highly concerning picture based on recent guest experiences. Its environment is frequently described as having severe cleanliness issues, unpleasant odors, and general disrepair. The services provided by staff have been called out for rudeness and unresponsiveness. Basic features within the rooms, such as beds and bathrooms, are reported to be uncomfortable or dysfunctional. For local users and travelers searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," it is critical to understand that the low price point of Horseshoe Curve Lodge may come with significant compromises on comfort, hygiene, and hospitality. Given the strong negative sentiment in customer reviews, it is advisable to carefully consider alternatives that can guarantee a more comfortable and problem-free stay.

Get directionsI have to be honest. Although I don't like writing bad reviews, this one deserves it. As soon as i arrived, I was welcomed very rudely. I had to wait several hours for my room to be ready, what wouldn’t be that big of a problem, if they just let me wait at their couch, but they wouldn’t let me. I wasn't given an explanation for it either. What else is the couch for??? When I finally got into my room, the first thing I noticed was the smell. I'm not sure if it was a broken pipe or anything but it smelled so badly, I didn’t even want to stay in my room. Later at night I couldn’t even fall asleep because the bed was so uncomfortable. For anyone who's thinking about staying here: Pay more somewhere else, even if it’s just for one night, because feeling comfortable should be guaranteed anywhere no matter the price, but unfortunately this hostel was not able to make me feel that way.
Mar 06, 2025 · Shirin B.Come here in early December and meet a REALLY nice gentleman that was also wanting a room but none were available yet so they sent him off in heavy rain I left not long after didn't even want to book a room after the way they treated him, I don't know what's with several businesses in the area also went to grab a hash brown near by and some women was to busy to serve me cause she was on the phone been a snitch. Mar 17, 2025 · Sarah BryanA last minute decision to stay here. Just driving through Altoona. The gentleman at the desk was very kind and gave me a Senior discount. He warned me ahead of time that the cable was not very good. I wasn’t concerned, as that wasn’t going to be important part of my stay. The room was veryclean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. This motel is under construction but I was only staying overnight, no problem. Cleanliness, service and price are the reason I give the Horseshoe Curve Lodge a 5!!
Nov 28, 2024 · Kathy JLady at the desk told me there wasnt a room available until later in the day, then went onto the news to tell them that she was lying simply because some gentleman before me looked “suspicious”. Not only did this establishment lose my respect but they also lost a customer. I ended up with no place to rest for the night and no where to go as I’ve never been in this town before. I believe that lady should be fired
Dec 12, 2024 · GabThis hotel is awful. Awful. You get what you pay for, so pay more and stay somewhere else. The bed was uncomfortable, the ice machine was "broken", but the worst was the TV service. The television itself was great, but the picture quality in my room was just barely short of unwatchable. When I went to the office to complain they were aware of the problem but said it was being fixed. They told me the same thing 5 years ago when I stayed here when the hotel was the Econolodge, and I said I would never stay here again. Fooled me by changing the name. People, I think they lived there, were smoking pot in the common areas. Stale smell in the room. BTW, ignore the review from Matthew C, he is not a guest, he is probably an owner, just hoping to improve their well deserve poor rating.
