Hotel Clermont Atlanta, by Oliver Introduce

For those seeking a unique and vibrant hotel experience in Atlanta, where history intertwines with modern sophistication and lively entertainment, Hotel Clermont Atlanta, by Oliver, stands out as a premier destination. Perfectly positioned for the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform category, this distinctive boutique hotel, located at 789 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306, USA, offers much more than just a place to sleep; it provides an immersive journey into Atlanta's past and present.

Environment and Location

Hotel Clermont occupies a building steeped in Atlanta history, originally opened in 1924 as The Clermont Hotel. This meticulous restoration by Oliver Hospitality has breathed new life into the property, transforming it into a modern, independent boutique hotel while preserving its authentic character and charm. The hotel's interior design is a captivating blend of vintage allure and contemporary style, featuring lavish decor that spans decades. Guests consistently praise the "stunning" and "adorable" rooms, highlighting the thoughtfulness of the design that extends throughout the property, from the funky lobby (though it was under construction during one guest's visit) to the meticulously renovated bathrooms.

Its strategic location on Ponce De Leon Avenue places it squarely within the vibrant Poncey-Highland neighborhood, nestled between the historic Old Fourth Ward and Midtown. This puts guests at the epicenter of Atlanta's most dynamic districts. A major draw is its proximity to key attractions, with "Ponce City Market" being "very close" and easily walkable. This expansive complex offers an array of "great shopping and lunch options," from unique boutiques to diverse culinary experiences. The Atlanta BeltLine's Eastside Trail is also just a short distance away, providing accessible pathways for leisure or exercise, connecting to other popular neighborhoods like Inman Park and Little Five Points, both known for their eclectic shops, bars, and restaurants.

Beyond these immediate points of interest, the Hotel Clermont offers convenient access to cultural venues like the Fox Theatre, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. While centrally located within the city, some guests noted a "quiet" experience in their rooms, suggesting effective soundproofing despite the urban setting. The area's rich heritage and diverse community make it an engaging backdrop for any stay.

Services and Amenities

Hotel Clermont prides itself on delivering a personalized and memorable guest experience. The staff is frequently lauded in reviews, with many guests commenting on their kindness, helpfulness, and "hospitable" demeanor. Praise for individuals like Hannah and Raeanne for their ease of work with group bookings, and the overall "kind and helpful" front desk staff, underscores a commitment to excellent service. However, it's important to note a contrasting review citing "extremely rude" reception staff and a lack of assistance from valet, suggesting that while generally positive, individual experiences can vary.

For dining and entertainment, Hotel Clermont is a destination in itself. It hosts several distinct venues:

  • Tiny Lou's: A French-American brasserie located downstairs, named after a popular 1950s dancer from the hotel's past. Tiny Lou's offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving up "palate-pleasing" French favorites with a focus on seasonal and local ingredients. Brunch is also available on weekends.

  • The Rooftop: A highly acclaimed rooftop bar offering "stunning views of downtown" Atlanta's skyline. This popular spot features astroturf, street food, and a selection of cocktails, making it a lively setting for socializing, especially in the evenings.

  • The Lobby Bar (currently under renovation): Designed as a buzzing cocktail lounge and cafe, it serves as a central point for guests to unwind and enjoy drinks. Recent information suggests the lobby renovation is now complete, offering a stylish and welcoming space for guests to gather and socialize, with plush seating and unique artwork reflecting the hotel's eclectic style.

  • Café Clermont: A cozy café for coffee and lighter fare.

  • The Clermont Lounge: This legendary and iconic strip club in the hotel's basement is a long-standing Atlanta institution, known for its unique atmosphere and cult following. Its presence adds to the hotel's distinctive character, though it operates independently and caters to a different audience.

Beyond dining, the hotel offers complimentary high-speed wireless internet throughout the property. Guests can maintain their fitness routines at the 24/7 fitness center. Other amenities include a 24-hour front desk, express check-out, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box. While there is no microwave in rooms, some reviews mention a refrigerator (which one guest noted only cooled to about 60 degrees) and a coffee/tea maker. Housekeeping is provided daily, and the hotel has implemented enhanced cleanliness measures, including the use of disinfectants and contactless check-in/check-out options, and masks available for guests.

Features

Hotel Clermont features 94 bespoke rooms and suites, each individually designed to offer a unique aesthetic experience while providing modern comforts. Room types range from Classic Queen and King rooms to more spacious Deluxe and Superior King rooms, and unique Bunk Rooms that can accommodate up to four people with four twin beds. Some rooms offer city views. In-room amenities include air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, modern Bluetooth speakers, in-room safes, premium bedding, and private tiled bathrooms with rainfall showerheads and exclusive toiletries by La Bottega. Minibars are also available in each room.

The hotel is pet-friendly, welcoming two dogs of any size in designated rooms for an additional non-refundable fee of $75 per stay. Cats are also allowed. This is a significant feature for travelers who wish to bring their animal companions. Accessible rooms are available, featuring amenities like audio-visual doorbells for the hearing impaired, roll-in showers, and accessible bath dispensers, ensuring a comfortable stay for guests with disabilities. The minimum age for check-in is 21 years old.

Parking is managed via valet service, which costs $45 per night. This can be a point of consideration for guests, as noted in a review where the cost was a "con," leading to guests seeking street parking instead. The hotel also has limited parking availability on a first-come, first-served basis, exclusively for hotel guests. While the location provides excellent access to nearby attractions, guests should be aware of the parking fees and potential for limited space. The hotel does not offer extra beds or cribs/infant beds. Despite the occasional negative feedback regarding specific room issues like a malfunctioning toilet or an "odd smell," the majority of guests find the rooms "stunning" and "satisfactory," emphasizing the overall comfort and design. The hotel has received high ratings for its comfortable beds and clean facilities, and it is frequently praised for its quiet atmosphere despite its urban location.

I had a less than satisfactory experience at the hotel Clermont. The woman at the reception was extremely rude to me and my colleague upon check-in. She rolled her eyes at us and though we were the only guests checking in, it took us over 20 minutes to check in. The valet did not open the door or help with our bags. The lobby was under construction. The rooms were satisfactory - the toilet didn’t work properly and there was an odd smell in the room. To make matters worse, we had a full restaurant buyout for a corporate event that evening so we should have received extra care and attention. I would not recommend staying here.

I planned a girls trip for my bestfriend and I for her birthday. We only stayed one night but I wish we stayed all weekend. Valet greeted us right when we pulled up and gave us the run down on what the next steps were for check in. Front desk employees were so kind and helped us ring in her birthday with a glass of champagne as we were checking in. They were accommodating when I asked if I could drop a cake off prior to check in time, and they even let us check in early to help us save some time out of our day. The interior was absolutely gorgeous and learning the history of the hotel made it even cooler. The snack area (which included coffee, snacks, protein wraps, ice and water) was easily accessible. The bar was a nice dark speakeasy vibe which was enjoyable for an after dinner drink. Unfortunately we did not have time to eat at the restaurant, but we will definitely be back to do that. It didn’t take valet more than 5 min to bring my car around. The location was perfect for a day in Atlanta. Facility was very clean(the bathrooms, beds, floors, hallways, and even the gym). The outside noise from our window (which was a loading/unloading dock) was loud in the early hours of the morning, but being in a highly trafficked area, I did not expect to have complete silence and it was not a bother to us. Our experience was wonderful, we will be returning and I would highly recommend this hotel.

Cute hotel with a fun ambience and good location. Unfortunately the rooftop was closed for renovation, but the lobby bar is a great cozy little spot with good drink options. The valet staff were super friendly and fast. Rooms are comfortable and pretty standard. The only complaint is the lobby "cafe" - has the capability to be an actual coffee bar, but not staffed and is instead set up to be all self serve with terrible, overpriced, pre-packaged pastries and mediocre coffee, which you then have to self report for room charges. If this could be an actual cafe with better breakfast options, it would take this hotel to another level. Overall a good stay, but for their high rates would like to see more elevated offerings.

DO NOT BE FOOLED...The website makes this hotel look fun and quirky. It is not fun and quirky. It is old and run down. From the very beginning of our trip it was awful. The two guys that were supposed to help us with luggage were on their phones watching us fumble with luggage, ALL of the restaurants were either under construction or were booked for a special event. And the rooms....ohhhh the rooms - so bad, all morning long doors are opening and slamming shut all the way down the halls. The rooms are run down. The furniture looks like they got it out of a dumpster. Totally aware I wasn't staying in a St. Regis, but riding up an elevator with a giant trash bin that smells like, well...trash is pretty gross. Just very little pride in this place. Lots of potential, but not worth your time.
