A weekend stay for $140/night makes this the most expensive 1 star hotel I have ever stayed in. The extend suites is worse, just don't even try going there. I had three nights here, and the last two mornings the included breakfast was cut down by lack of maple syrup, I kid you not. They ran out of syrup and no one bothered to stop and pick some up from a local market, so instead they turned off the waffle makers and shrugged shoulders. Instacart anyone??? The room was 2/5, bed was ok, the door to my room #208 had been kicked open at least once, with damage to the jamb and strikeplate. At least the AC worked and continuous fan cut down the screaming kids racket. The lampshade has water stains...how does that happen? I did not get either hand towels or washcloths placed in my room, just bath towels. The office style chair was broken and was too low for the desk. There were no signs to hang for DND, so if you wanted privacy...out of luck. It would be nice if someone cleaned up the grounds, butts everywhere and the outside trash can overflowing. The neighborhood is sketchy as well, several corner cretins waving their cardboard signs at the highway entrance really dress up the place. The lobby staff were pleasant and competent but this place really needs a remodel, come on Wyndham, get it together.

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North Introduce

For Arizonans and visitors alike who are looking for a straightforward, budget-conscious place to stay in Phoenix, the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North aims to offer essential amenities with convenient access to major thoroughfares. As a Wyndham property, it is generally positioned to provide a practical lodging option for travelers focused on value. While the concept of a budget hotel often means prioritizing affordability over luxury, understanding what to expect can help you decide if it’s the right fit for your needs in the Valley of the Sun.

As locals, we know that sometimes the most important things are a convenient location, a comfortable bed, and basic conveniences, especially when you’re just passing through or need a simple base. La Quinta Inn properties typically offer features like complimentary breakfast and pet-friendly policies, which can add significant value for many travelers. However, it's also important to acknowledge that reviews for budget hotels can be varied, often reflecting the balance between cost savings and property upkeep.

Some past guest experiences at this particular location have unfortunately highlighted significant concerns regarding the condition of the rooms, cleanliness, and security. Issues such as damaged doors, mold, strange smells, and a lack of essential amenities have been reported. While the front desk staff are often described as pleasant and competent in their interactions, these operational challenges indicate that guests should set their expectations carefully and perhaps contact the hotel directly with specific questions before booking, especially if safety and room condition are paramount concerns. It's clear that while the location and basic services might appeal to some, the overall property may be in need of considerable updates and attention to detail.

Location and Accessibility

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North is strategically located at 2510 W Greenway Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85023, USA. This address places it directly off Interstate 17 (I-17), a crucial north-south freeway that traverses the entire Phoenix metropolitan area. This prime location offers exceptional accessibility for travelers, whether they are driving across Arizona or navigating within the city.

Being just off I-17 means guests have straightforward routes to various points of interest. Downtown Phoenix, with its business district, entertainment venues, and cultural attractions, is easily reachable by heading south. To the north, areas like Deer Valley, and beyond, are also readily accessible. This immediate freeway access simplifies commutes and reduces travel time across the sprawling city, which is a major convenience for both leisure and business travelers.

For those flying into the region, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is approximately 14 miles away, making for a manageable drive. Public transportation options are generally available along major roads in Phoenix, though having a personal vehicle is often recommended for exploring the wider area.

The immediate vicinity around the hotel on Greenway Road offers a variety of amenities. Guests can find dining options, gas stations, and some retail establishments within a short distance. Nearby attractions include Turf Paradise Horse Track and the popular Castles N' Coasters amusement park, which is just a short drive away. The hotel also provides free parking, including space for larger vehicles, which is a practical benefit for those traveling by car.

Services Offered

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North focuses on providing key services that are typically expected from a budget-friendly hotel, aiming to offer convenience and value.

  • Complimentary Breakfast: Guests can start their day with a free "Bright Side Breakfast®," which typically includes items like waffles, eggs, and breakfast meats, along with coffee, juice, and other standard continental selections. (Note: A past review mentioned a lack of maple syrup leading to waffle makers being turned off, indicating that availability of all items may vary.)

  • Free Wi-Fi: High-speed internet access is available throughout the hotel, including in guest rooms and common areas, allowing guests to stay connected.

  • 24-Hour Front Desk: The reception is staffed around the clock to assist guests with check-in, check-out, and any inquiries or needs during their stay.

  • Free Parking: On-site self-parking is provided at no additional charge, which is a valued amenity for those traveling by car in Phoenix.

  • Pet-Friendly Accommodation: This hotel is pet-friendly, allowing guests to bring their dogs or cats. A fee of approximately $20 per room per night, with a maximum charge of $40 per stay, applies for pets. Service animals are exempt from fees. (Note: While pet-friendly, some rooms or "extended suites" may not be ideal, as suggested by a review.)

  • Dry Cleaning/Laundry Service: Convenient services for guests needing to refresh their wardrobe during their stay.

  • Vending Machines: For quick access to snacks and beverages.

  • Safe-Deposit Box at Front Desk: For securing valuables.

Features / Highlights

The La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North offers a set of features designed to provide a comfortable, if basic, stay for its guests.

  • Outdoor Swimming Pool: A pool is available, which can be a refreshing amenity in the warm Arizona climate, typically open seasonally. Some sources also mention a spa tub.

  • Guest Rooms with Essential Comforts: Rooms are generally equipped with a flat-screen HDTV with cable channels, air conditioning, a coffee maker, an ironing board, and a hair dryer. Many rooms also include a microwave and refrigerator, which are convenient for storing and preparing snacks or simple meals.

  • Pillow-Top Mattresses: La Quinta properties often highlight their signature pillow-top mattresses, aiming to provide a comfortable sleeping experience.

  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The ability to bring pets is a significant highlight for travelers who prefer to travel with their animal companions.

  • Proximity to Major Freeway and Local Attractions: The hotel's location off I-17 provides easy access to the broader Phoenix area, including attractions like Castles N' Coasters, Turf Paradise, and various shopping and dining options.

  • Fitness Center: A 24-hour fitness center is typically available for guests who wish to maintain their workout routines while traveling.

However, it is crucial to address that several recent customer reviews indicate significant issues with the condition and cleanliness of the facilities and rooms. Problems cited include damaged room doors and door jambs, mold on curtains, mildew in air conditioners, bloodstains and cigarette burn holes on sheets, unvacuumed carpets with glass and crusty chunks, and faulty locks. Some guests have also reported missing towels and broken furniture. While the availability of amenities like a pool or free breakfast is a highlight, the quality and maintenance of these features, and the overall state of the property, appear to be highly inconsistent. Guests looking for a higher standard of cleanliness and room integrity should take these factors into serious consideration. The reviews suggest that the hotel is in significant need of remodeling and improved maintenance.

Promotions or Special Offers

As part of the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts portfolio, La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North often participates in various promotions and offers designed to provide value to its guests. Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents of Arizona, particularly those within the sprawling Phoenix metropolitan area, the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Phoenix North is primarily suitable for specific, highly budget-driven needs, often for very short stays. It's important to approach this hotel with very realistic expectations, keeping in mind the detailed feedback from past guests.

Firstly, its main appeal for locals is its affordability. When you need a place to stay that is strictly economical, perhaps for a quick overnight stop, a very short-term work assignment, or during an unexpected personal situation where budget is the absolute top priority, this hotel offers a low price point. For Arizonans navigating tight budgets or unforeseen circumstances, the cost can be a deciding factor.

Secondly, the location directly off Interstate 17 is a significant convenience. Locals know that freeway access is crucial for efficient travel across our expansive city. Whether you're heading to a specific event, need to be near a particular area for a brief period, or are simply passing through Phoenix, the ease of getting on and off the I-17 minimizes travel time and hassle. The proximity to amenities like gas stations, fast food, and local attractions like Castles N' Coasters adds to this practical convenience.

However, it is paramount for locals to be aware of the severe and consistent negative feedback regarding the property's condition and maintenance. Reviews frequently mention issues ranging from damaged rooms, lack of cleanliness, faulty locks, and concerns about the surrounding neighborhood. While the "pleasant and competent" lobby staff are a positive point, they seem to be working with significant property-level challenges. Therefore, for locals, this hotel should be considered only if the need for a truly low-cost, short-term stay with prime freeway access outweighs concerns about room quality, cleanliness, and overall environment. It is a choice for those who prioritize absolute budget savings and minimal time spent in the room, and who are prepared for a very basic and potentially challenging experience. For families or those seeking peace of mind regarding safety and hygiene, other options would likely be more suitable, even if at a slightly higher cost.

The room I stayed in had grime all outside in the exterior area garbage everywhere large garbage bags filled and toppled over. The lock was faulty. There was mildew in the air conditioner mold on the curtains with either cigarette burns or moth holes in the blackout curtain. There was blood on the sheets of one bed and cigarette burn holes the sheets of the others. The carpet had cigarette burn holes had not been vacuumed in an undeterminable amount of time glass in certain areas strange crusty chunks of things over most of the carpet. The TV was glued to the dresser. I have no idea what constitutes the grime that was along the floorboards and also on the walls and I will not speculate. But there it was. The second worst experience I've ever had staying in a hotel and it has prompted me to reevaluate how I locate places to stay. Due to what was going on in the area and the fact that it was hard to breathe in the room because of the mildew coming from the air conditioner which got to have on cuz it's Phoenix... I did not sleep and left with a large quantity of other people around 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning as soon as possible. It is the only place I've ever considered actually calling a health inspector or reporting to some kind of entity and I stayed once in a hotel with roaches all over the ceiling the floor and the walls with a leaking water pipes and the elevator was out.

Worst experience ever! I booked weeks in advance of spring training. I showed up to the hotel with my husband and young child around 9pm and was given my room keys etc. I wasn't super happy about the location or hotel itself but considering weekend prices I went with it.... I was given a room on the back end. As soon as we parked I knew it was bad news. As I walked up the stairs... The stairs kept cracking, definitely in need of some major maintenance. That wasn't the bad part lol my room was boarded up. Boarded up! A board "covered" the window. It wasn't even fully secured. I went inside figured it wouldn't be too bad. The room had been ransacked! No TV, no phone, everything had been taken out. We obviously left. I was told they were overbooked and "oh, that room was not meant to be given out..." sounded like they knew this but still gave me the keys in hopes I'd be OK with it. So I was left with no hotel, no options at night having to book during spring training. Beware! Don't book. Pay the extra $50

We usually love staying at La Quinta hotels, but this location was not what we expected—the photos on Google are deceiving. The entire place is very dated, and they don’t actually offer the double queen beds we originally booked. Thankfully, the staff was friendly and receptive, and they reimbursed us without any issues. However, when we saw our room, it was disappointing. The counters had BBQ sauce on them, the doors were dirty, and overall, it just seemed like they were understaffed. Maybe this was just one of the only rooms that lacked cleanliness—we don’t know. If you’re willing to overlook these things to save some money, this place might work for you—but personally, it wasn’t the right fit for us.

Dirty. Dirty, stained & smelly carpet. Stained bath area counter top. Poorly repaired holes in walls & doors. Pet scratched moldings & doors. Stained light shades. Holey window coverings. Front desk assigned room to another guest who used room key to walk into our room at 1a.m. Breakfast non-existent an hour before ending. Disgusting. Do not say here.
