I actually liked this place a lot. I work in town, and rented a room to just have a little staycation, and loved it. It was mostly empty the two nights I was there, and it was lovely. I rented the twilight ridge, and while there wasn't much of a balcony view, it was nice to sit and have fresh air! It was easy to get into the building, and the room as well with the codes provided! I'll definitely be booking again in the future.

There are also studio and 3-bedroom cabins available for rent, suggesting a range of choices for different group sizes and preferences. Rooms are equipped with king or queen beds, and some suites also include sofa beds.

  • Contactless Check-in/Check-out: The resort promotes "express, contactless check-in and check-out," utilizing codes for building and room access. This feature is intended for guest convenience and flexibility, allowing arrivals outside of traditional reception hours.

  • In-Room Amenities: Each unit typically includes air conditioning, heating, a flat-screen TV (some smart TVs with streaming services), USB ports, a fridge, a coffee machine, a shower, complimentary toiletries, and a wardrobe. Every room includes a private bathroom with a hair dryer, while some rooms come with an outdoor patio or balcony/terrace, offering guests private outdoor space with mountain views. Higher-end accommodations may feature wood-burning fireplaces and spa tubs.

  • Event Facilities: A "beautiful Romanesque Chapel" is on-site, suggesting the possibility of hosting events or weddings.

Features and Distinguishing Aspects:

Laurel Valley Mountain Retreat aims to provide a blend of natural beauty and comfort, with several key aspects:

  • Scenic Views: The "million-dollar views" are a primary draw, offering guests a picturesque backdrop to their stay in the Smoky Mountains. Many rooms and common areas are designed to maximize these vistas.

  • Variety of Accommodations: The range from individual rooms to larger cabins caters to different traveler needs, from solo "staycations" to family groups.

  • Secluded Ambiance: The location in Townsend contributes to a quieter, more "peaceful" experience compared to the busier tourist towns of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. This is attractive to those seeking relaxation and connection with nature.

  • Guest Feedback on Positives: Positive reviews highlight the ease of entry with provided codes, the peaceful atmosphere (especially when the retreat is not at full occupancy), and the general enjoyment of a "staycation" experience. Some guests specifically praise the incredible views and the unique charm of the property.

Promotional Information and Guest Insights:

For local users considering "Hotels Near Of Me" in Townsend, the information about Laurel Valley Mountain Retreat presents a mixed picture. While some guests have had positive experiences, praising the peaceful environment, easy access with codes, and pleasant "staycation" vibes, other reviews raise serious concerns that potential visitors must consider:

  • Check-in Issues: A significant concern is the reported difficulty with receiving timely access instructions. Guests have experienced delays and frustration upon arrival, with some even finding other frustrated guests with the same issue. This points to a potential flaw in the "contactless" system or communication, although other reviews state communication was excellent and check-in was smooth.

  • Deferred Maintenance and Datedness: One guest noted "a lot of deferred maintenance" and described the place as "dated." This indicates that while functional, some aspects of the property might not be in optimal condition or reflect modern standards in all units. However, other recent reviews mention "newly renovated" rooms and beautiful decor, suggesting that updates may be ongoing or vary by unit.

  • Security and Privacy Concerns: The alarming report of multiple parties attempting to access a guest's room, believing it was theirs due to unclear instructions, is a major red flag regarding guest safety and privacy. This issue, if persistent, is highly problematic and suggests a need for stricter control over access codes.

  • False Accusations: The most severe negative feedback involves an owner allegedly filing a false claim for property damage (scratched floors) against a guest. While AirBnB ultimately sided with the guest, such an accusation is a significant deterrent and speaks to potential issues with property management's conduct and integrity.

  • Lack of On-site Staff/Support: The "contactless" nature, while convenient for some, appears to translate into a lack of immediate on-site support when issues arise, leading to frustration for guests who encounter problems. This contrasts with testimonials praising excellent hosts who go "above and beyond" to ensure guests have everything they need.

Given the conflicting reviews, especially the serious negative ones concerning service and accusations, potential guests should proceed with caution. While the natural environment, views, and proximity to attractions like the Laurel Valley Golf Course and Great Smoky Mountains National Park are appealing, the reported operational and ethical issues are significant. It is advisable for prospective guests to contact Laurel Valley Mountain Retreat directly at (865) 448-4891 or +1 865-448-4891 for booking and to clarify specific concerns before making a reservation, particularly regarding check-in procedures and property condition. It might be prudent to rely on booking platforms with strong guest protection policies if choosing to stay here. Guests should also note that pets are generally not allowed.

STAY AWAY from Laurel Valley Mountain Resort!!!!! I booked a room through AirBnb for a 2-night stay by myself for a new year goal setting retreat. I assumed I would be sent access instructions at least by the time I arrived. I arrived 1 hour after check in and still no instructions. I got out of my car and there was a couple standing there talking on the phone. They told me they had been there over an hour with the same issue and had not idea how to access their room and they were super upset. After calling myself I received access instructions. The room I stayed in was decent but had a lot of deferred maintenance. And I am not the picky type and usually roll with that kind of stuff which I did. Honestly the view was incredible but that was not enough to offset how dated this place is and poor the service is. During my stay I had 3 different sets of people come to my door trying to access my room thinking it was theirs which I am guessing they also did not receive clear check in instructions. To top it off, after my stay, the owner filed a claim against me through AirBnB saying I severely scratched the wood floors and asking me to pay hundreds of dollars for the floors to be repaired. These scratches were there upon my arrival and were clearly done by a dog on a previous stay (this was on top of a whole bunch of other deferred maintenance inside and outside of my unit). I am beyond clean, cautious and respectful anytime I stay at a AirBnB and was blown away they would attempt to accuse me of this. I responded to the owner directly and told her this must be a mistake and that these are clearly dog scratches that were already there when I check-in for my stay and she never responded. Long story short AirBnB conducted their own investigation into their claim and found it to be false and rejected it and apologized to me for the hassle. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this "resort"!!!

Customer service sucked, they couldn't even give directions to get the location over the phone, our GPS didn't work in the area. The bed was rock hard. A bear busted out our back passager window on the jeep and another man's window on his vehicle, this place is refusing to reimburse us for the damages to our vehicle. There were stretches on another couples vehicle that was staying the night there. The bear ripped up our seats and caused a lot of damage. There was no signs warning us about the bears, all parking is close to the dumpster. I would NOT stay at this place again. The bear caused more damage than what we paid for the room. Nothing outside was lite up at all at night.

UPDATE: 12-2-24 We reported Laurel Valley to the BBB. After numerous attempts Laurel Valley would not respond to them either. Clearly the positive reviews are bogus. This company is very fraudulent and I would steer clear of doing ANY business with them! We stayed on a Saturday night. The room was ok, but the fireplace did not work (which is why we booked that room). There were several minor issues in the room such as the conditioner bottle is broken, shower head is loose and coming out of the wall, no wash cloths...The nail coming out of the floor plank was extremely dangerous! We called and texted the property over 4x to get this resolved at check in. Even after leaving several messages, NOBODY returned our calls. Monday morning I called and spoke to a girl named Zoan (?) who did not like that I was complaining. She hung up on me and blocked my number. The owner was notified by Booking.com of the issues and stated he would call me. After 2 days I still have not heard from him. They now have blocked Booking.com as well. I recommend finding a different place to stay. This "resort" is obviously very fraudulent.

Would Not Recommend. The location and views are beautiful. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up with the dirty rooms, uncomfortable beds, and the property falling apart. On the last night of our stay we had had enough and left at 11pm cutting our stay short after another guest had to knock on our door to check our room for water leaks because their ceiling was pouring water. The property needs a deep cleaning and a maintenance overhaul. The bathroom faucets were leaking. The patio was unusable due to being over taken by spider webs and dirt. There were long dark hairs everywhere, on the pillows, stuck to the linens, in the bath, on the floor. The grounds are not maintained either so their is no escaping the mess. To top it off there is no one on site to help with any issues guests may have.
