My review is for the restaurant part, we didn't stay overnight. I had salmon and my partner had filet mignon - both were *excellent*. The lemon marscapone cake was delicious as well. Service was fantastic. I have to say tho that my favorite part was sitting in the dining room. What a great old building, restored so nicely. I absolutely loved the coziness. They had a Christmas tree and lit candles on the tables - all of it so lovely. The only thing that could have made it perfect was if the fireplaces were still working. We will definitely be back.

Lewisburg Hotel Introduce

For local users in Lewisburg, PA, and those seeking accommodation within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Lewisburg Hotel stands as a significant landmark at 136 Market St, Lewisburg, PA 17837, USA. You can contact them at (570) 523-7800 for reservations or inquiries. This establishment holds a unique place in the town, not just as a hotel but also as a popular dining and social hub. This introduction will provide an objective overview of the Lewisburg Hotel, exploring its environment, services, features, and any available promotional information, drawing from its historical context and customer feedback.

Environment and History:

The Lewisburg Hotel is steeped in history, a defining characteristic of its environment. Originally established in 1834, it is Lewisburg's longest-lived hotel and has witnessed generations of travelers. Its prime location on Market Street, Lewisburg's main thoroughfare, places it at the heart of the charming downtown area. This makes it an ideal spot for guests looking to "explore downtown" with its unique shops, historic buildings, and vibrant atmosphere. The hotel's history includes periods as the Kline Hotel and Cameron House, and it has hosted notable figures, including every Pennsylvania governor from 1831-1901, the first president of the University at Lewisburg (now Bucknell University), and even national figures like Walt Whitman and James Buchanan. After a period of closure, it underwent extensive renovations and reopened in 1997, aiming to restore its "post Civil War affluence" and "Victorian elegance." This rich heritage is evident in the building's "great old building" and "restored so nicely" aesthetic, with "plush carpeting, polished brass and distinctive wood" reflecting its period. The atmosphere is consistently described as "cozy," especially in the dining areas, with seasonal decorations like Christmas trees and lit candles enhancing the ambiance. While its historical nature adds immense character, it also presents certain environmental quirks, such as "OLD building with THIN walls," which can impact the quietness of overnight stays, as noted by a reviewer.

Services and Features:

The Lewisburg Hotel offers a dual experience, functioning as both a hotel and a prominent restaurant and bar. The hotel section provides comfortable accommodations in a classic Victorian style. Guests have a choice of "three efficiency suites—complete with refrigerator, microwave oven, private bedroom and living room—or three comfortable double rooms." More detailed information suggests it offers 18-22 rooms in total, including various suites like the Luxury Suite, Honeymoon Suite, and options with kitchenettes or whirlpools. All rooms are designed to combine "classic style of Victorian Lewisburg along with modern conveniences and amenities," including central heat and air, private bathrooms, hair dryers, ironing boards, alarm clocks, cable TV, and Wi-Fi internet. Some suites also offer a queen sofa bed in the living room and fax-modem hookups, catering to both leisure and business travelers. The convenience of free self-parking is also typically available.

However, the restaurant and bar components are where the Lewisburg Hotel truly shines, according to customer feedback. The restaurant offers "fine dining for lunch and dinner" across several dining areas and boasts a "fantastic" service. The menu features a range of dishes, with customer reviews specifically praising the "excellent" salmon and filet mignon, and a "delicious" lemon mascarpone cake. The bar offers a "casual atmosphere for enjoying cocktails." The overall dining experience is enhanced by the "coziness" and "lovely" ambiance of the dining room. The hotel also has facilities for meetings and banquets, including several ballrooms with capacities ranging from 100-250 for banquets and smaller spaces for business meetings, making it a venue for local events. It's noted that the hotel is pet-friendly, adding another layer of convenience for travelers with companions.

Customer Experience:

Customer reviews provide a split but informative perspective on the Lewisburg Hotel. The restaurant experience receives glowing accolades. Reviewers describe the food as "excellent," "delicious," and "piping hot." Service is consistently praised as "fantastic." The ambiance of the dining room, with its "great old building, restored so nicely," "coziness," and festive decorations, is a significant highlight, contributing to a "lovely" overall experience. The desire to "definitely be back" for the restaurant portion is strong.

Conversely, the hotel accommodation aspect receives a more mixed, and at times critical, assessment. While the "Location is great" for exploring downtown and visiting Bucknell University, the age of the building is a recurring point of concern. Reviewers emphasize that it is an "OLD building with THIN walls," leading to potential noise issues. The advice to "Bring earplugs and white noise" is a direct indicator of this problem. The statement that the hotel "hasn't been remodeled in decades" (in contrast to the restaurant's "restored so nicely" comment) suggests a disparity in the level of renovation between the dining and lodging areas. This implies that while the restaurant offers a refined experience, the hotel rooms may offer a more rustic, dated experience that some guests may find challenging if they are sensitive to noise or expect modern updates.

Promotional Information and Value Proposition:

The Lewisburg Hotel's promotional efforts appear to capitalize on its rich history, central downtown location, and, most notably, its highly-regarded restaurant. The website explicitly highlights its historical significance and the "classic style of Victorian Lewisburg." The consistent positive reviews for the restaurant's food and service serve as organic and powerful promotional tools, drawing both local diners and overnight guests. The hotel's ability to host events and banquets is also a key promotional point for larger gatherings. The "cozy" and "lovely" dining atmosphere is a distinct selling point for those seeking a charming meal. For accommodations, the value proposition lies in its prime location for accessing Lewisburg attractions and its historical character. However, guests should balance these benefits against the potential for noise and older infrastructure in the rooms, as highlighted by customer feedback. While specific promotional offers like discounts were not detailed, the comprehensive nature of its restaurant and event facilities, combined with its historical charm, forms its core appeal for a diverse clientele.

Conclusion for Local Users:

For local users in Lewisburg, PA, considering options within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Lewisburg Hotel at 136 Market St, Lewisburg, PA 17837, USA (phone: (570) 523-7800) offers a distinctive experience. It is particularly renowned for its restaurant, which consistently receives high praise for its "excellent" food, "fantastic" service, and "cozy" and "lovely" atmosphere. Diners can expect a delightful culinary experience in a beautifully restored historic setting. However, for those considering an overnight stay, it is crucial to manage expectations regarding the hotel rooms. While the location is unbeatable for exploring downtown Lewisburg and accessing Bucknell University, the building's age means "thin walls" and potential noise issues, as noted by guests. Therefore, prospective hotel guests should be aware of these aspects and consider bringing earplugs or white noise if quiet is a high priority. In summary, the Lewisburg Hotel is a highly recommended destination for its exceptional dining and charming historical ambiance, making it a vibrant community hub. For lodging, it offers a prime location and historical character, but potential guests should be prepared for the realities of staying in a very old, albeit charming, building.

My review is of the hotel, not the restaurant. Location is great, but this is an OLD building with THIN walls. You better hope that your neighbors are quiet and have the same hours as you. Bring earplugs and white noise. Location can't be beat if you want to explore downtown or are there for the University. But this is an old hotel that hasn't been remodeled in decades.

I'm from out of town and was visiting family in the area. We made reservations at the Lewisburg Hotel for lunch and it was perfect! I needed a quiet location so my elderly family members could hear each other and the dining room was quiet. Our waitress, Cathy, provided excellent waitressing service. She also went above and beyond for me because I left my credit card in the receipt holder. She saw it there after we had left and removed it to keep it safe. When I called from out of state to ask if it was there, she offered to mail it to me. I received the card back in a few days which was greatly appreciated!

Update: new menu when I visited April 2025. Many more options! Good place to go in Lewisburg occasionally. Their crab bisque soup is the best though. They really haven't changed their menu much in 20 years.

I'd love to say amazing things about this place. The staff were exceptional. The location is exceptional. Walk anywhere you want. The courtyard is lovely. However the rooms are dated and shabby. They ARE clean. No amenities to speak of. Walls are thin. Our TV didn't work so we listened to the drunk couple in the next room fight You are paying for the location. Saying that, just know this isn't a contemporary hotel. (Room keys are just that, keys!)
