This unmanned hotel was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. We tried it out because it was so convenient to people we were visiting and the area is a bit of a hotel desert. We were happy with it and will definitely stay here again. It’s also convenient to many great places to eat and to the blue train line. Our room had a private bath across the hall with a good shower and plenty of space for changing clothes, and we did find basic toiletries were provided. The room also had a sink, coffee maker with coffee pods, a fridge, and small microwave, plus shelves to store your stuff. Terry robes were also provided. A really nice alternative to a standard hotel!

This hotel is an ideal choice for locals who need a temporary space for visiting family or friends, or for those who simply want to experience a new neighborhood from a residential perspective. It offers a fresh and modern alternative to a standard hotel, blending a homey feel with essential amenities. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of a large, full-service hotel, its simplicity and focus on core comforts like clean bedding and a quiet environment are what make it special. The Logan Square SRO Hotel is a testament to the innovative lodging options that have emerged to cater to modern travelers who are comfortable with a more self-sufficient style of accommodation. Its design and operation are perfectly suited for the independent-minded individual who appreciates both value and a well-maintained space.

Located at 2001 N California Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA, the Logan Square SRO Hotel boasts a location that is both central to a vibrant neighborhood and easily accessible. The hotel is situated in a more residential part of Logan Square, which contributes to its quiet and peaceful environment at night. For Illinois residents familiar with the city, this location is a huge plus, as it's a neighborhood known for its independent spirit, beautiful boulevards, and strong sense of community. The hotel is a short, approximately seven-minute walk to the CTA Blue Line, which offers a direct and reliable route to downtown Chicago and O'Hare International Airport. This makes it an incredibly convenient option for hosting guests who are flying into the city.

Beyond the train line, the hotel is also a short bus ride from many of the fantastic restaurants, bars, and shops that line Milwaukee Avenue. The neighborhood is a food lover's paradise, with everything from cozy coffee shops to acclaimed fine dining. Guests can also easily reach Humboldt Park by bus, a major green space in the city offering a lagoon, boathouse, and numerous recreational facilities. The neighborhood itself is known for being safe and walkable, giving guests the confidence to explore its tree-lined streets both day and night. The Logan Square SRO Hotel provides a thoughtful list of services and amenities designed to make your self-sufficient stay as comfortable as possible.

  • Kitchenette Features: Each room is equipped with basic but essential amenities, including a sink, a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker with coffee pods, allowing for some self-catering options.
  • Private and Shared Bathroom Options: The hotel offers rooms with either a private, detached bath across the hall or a shared bathroom with one other room. In both cases, guests are provided with a dedicated key for their assigned bathroom for privacy.
  • Provided Toiletries: The hotel provides basic toiletries, as well as soft bedding and Terry robes, which add a touch of comfort and convenience.
  • Laundry Facilities: For guests on longer stays, there are on-site washers and dryers in the basement that are free to use, a significant benefit that is not always available at traditional hotels.

  • Value for the Price: While some may compare it to a hostel, the hotel offers a higher level of privacy and amenities than a typical hostel, often at a more competitive price point than a full-service hotel in the area. This makes it an excellent value proposition for budget-conscious travelers.
  • Convenient Location: The hotel's proximity to the Blue Line and the wealth of local dining options in Logan Square is a key highlight, allowing guests to easily explore the city without the need for a car.

In short, for the price of a full sized bed and a shared bathroom in a small space in April, this place is steep for only 4 days. This lodging is more closely aligned to a hostel private room than a hotel. I would add a bit more amenities to oust other lodgings in the area. It was not my first pick, but I needed the place in a pinch as my first lodging was too far from what I wanted to see on my trip. Amenities: The bedding is soft and the highlight of my stay. There is no hair dryer, no complimentary shampoo/conditioner/body wash like you’d expect from an Airbnb or a hotel. You do not have a closet, just under bed storage. It was handy to have a in room sink. Noise & Safety: The area is quiet at night and completely safe to walk around after taking the L or the bus. The unit is also quiet but if your room is close to the exit door, you’ll hear it slam as there’s no closer arm to slow the door as folks exit out of it. Location & Transportation: You’ll be staying in a more residential area of Logan Square. It’s a 7 minute walk to the blue line and short bus rides to multiple restaurants on Milwaukee. You’re also a short bus ride to Humboldt Park. Accessibility: It’s all stairs so if you have problem with carrying luggage or with stairs in general, just keep that in mind.

It was an overall great experience, just a couple of nitpicks! Pros: Wonderful location, rates, and neighborhood. Stayed here for a long weekend and the blue line station was so convenient for getting downtown, never felt unsafe in the area and the rooms were clean and a good rate. Having in hotel laundry was definitely a lifesaver for us and meant we got to wear our new thrift finds! Cons: Less like a hotel, more like an AirBnB. I feel like when I book a hotel I expect at least basic toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The whole point, especially if you're flying in is the convience of not having to pack those items. The shared bathroom was not a problem and was very well outlined in the website, but it was a little unclear with whether or not it had toiletries and I ended up using my friends', but I can't imagine buying a full size product from the 7/11 then having to shove it into my checked luggage flying out. I very much appreciated the robes for the bathrooms, however especially for the shared bathrooms I feel like disposable slippers would definitely be a great addition, foot fungus is no joke. We ended up buying some in Chinatown. Overall, we would book again, but definitely be prepared with your own toiletries and slippers.

Great location with plenty of walkable options for food and drinks and right in between the airport and downtown on public transit. The latch door unlocking system was very easy once hotel staff helped me with a login issue (and they were very responsive and helpful). The rooms were clean, modern and quiet. I had a private bathroom that was clean and stocked with shampoo conditiner and soap. My only complaint is that my room was facing an interior wall and had very little light. Would definitely stay again.

To clarify. This is not a full service hotel. It's like renting a nice dorm room. For most that's fine, but mom who wants perks may not like it. This is also a great place if you need an extended stay. Monthly rents are reasonable. I was in a transitional period and originally intended for one month, but I stayed for three. Great spot to stay that's not downtown or the airport. Safe, quiet neighborhood (I used to live in the area many years ago, and it's only gotten nicer).
