The room was extremely clean though extremely small. The majority of the rooms are 240 sq.ft. except for the doubles. If I ever came back I'd just book a two bed room just for the space. People at the front desk were always super nice and courteous. They did not charge me for my ESA. Bathroom was spotless and bed was comfortable to sleep in. There's a microwave and mini-fridge in the room. Didn't take advantage of the breakfast because it was just cold stuff. I went out and explored new breakfast spots every day of my stay instead. The hotel was not really central to anything useful to me but I felt really safe in this area.
For many Iowa residents, finding a hotel that offers a clean, comfortable, and affordable place to stay is the top priority, especially for a short trip, a brief business visit, or when passing through the Cedar Rapids area. The Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Marion/Cedar Rapids is a hotel that aims to provide just that, focusing on delivering essential amenities and a friendly atmosphere at a competitive price. This article is written to give you, the local Iowan, a clear and factual understanding of what this hotel offers, its strengths, and some of the potential challenges, to help you make an informed decision for your travel needs.
The Microtel brand is known for its philosophy of providing smartly designed, compact rooms that maximize space and comfort. Many guests appreciate this focus on efficiency, noting that the rooms, while small, are extremely clean and well-maintained. The hotel is often praised for its friendly and courteous front desk staff, who are known for their helpfulness and positive demeanor. The commitment to a clean environment is a significant point of pride, with reviews highlighting spotless bathrooms and comfortable beds, which are fundamental to a pleasant stay.
However, it is important to have a balanced perspective. Some guests have reported serious issues with their stay, including dirty rooms and bed bugs, which are significant concerns that should be taken into consideration. It's also worth noting that some guests have had negative experiences with staff members when trying to address these issues. While the hotel does offer a complimentary breakfast, some visitors have found it to be a simple continental spread with "cold stuff," leading them to seek out other local breakfast spots. The size of the rooms is another factor; while clean, the standard rooms are quite small. For those who require more space, it is a known recommendation to book a two-bed room, which offers a larger footprint.
The Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Marion/Cedar Rapids is best suited for the value-conscious traveler who prioritizes a safe and clean place to sleep over extensive amenities. The hotel provides the basic necessities, such as a microwave, mini-fridge, and free Wi-Fi in every room, which are essential for a short stay. It is also a pet-friendly hotel, which is a major benefit for many Iowans traveling with their companions, though guests should be aware of the associated fees. By understanding both the hotel's praised features and its reported drawbacks, you can determine if it aligns with your specific travel preferences and needs.

Nov 21, 2022 · MelindaStayed at this hotel last night. The room had a busted door lock. The bathroom was filthy. Upon waking found bed bugs crawling through my sheets! Employee did not care about the condition and said he had to inspect the room after I showed him the picture of bug crawling on the bed. Have bites on my neck from it. Contacted manager and customer care and they did not care either. Location has been reported to local code enforcement!
Nov 26, 2023 · Terra MVolume on remote did not work, no phone in room, visible chunks of gloppy food, blood, or excrement on bathroom wall. The TV is way too small. Breakfast was a bunch of prepackaged garbage. I told the attendant that the remote volume wasn't working. She said turn the TV off and on and try again, and if it didn't work to call. I told her there's no phone in the room. She seemed suprised and opened a book to write down the information. They have less than 30 rooms here, and 1/3 are under construction. You come to a hotel for a bed, a shower, TV, and food. So, TV the only entertainment was not working. That should be a refund in my opinion.
Mar 19, 2024 · John SmithPut my kids up here when they came for a visit. It's was clean and cozy if a bit small. They were satisfied with their stay.
Nov 04, 2024 · Joni Gooden-KapoorGenerally I'm really happy with my stay. The rooms are great quality for the price. The staff is kind and helpful. I had a few minor problems with things in my room (light bulb went out, toilet running excessively) but they were minor inconveniences and I don't blame the hotel staff. Coffee in the lobby is always fresh. Breakfast is a little lacking but it's not that bad.
