Similar to what other reviewers have shared, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel. The Moxy concept feels overdone and largely impractical for serious business travelers. While the room was clean, the design seemed more like a designer’s whimsical take on glamping at Coachella than a functional hotel space. There’s no wardrobe or closet—just 30 wall hooks (yes, I counted). Need to get work done? There’s no traditional desk or chair. Instead, there’s a wall-mounted board that folds down as a makeshift desk, and a wooden folding chair—more like a luggage rack—hanging on those same hooks. The room also lacks a coffee maker, likely because there’s nowhere to put one. In the lobby, the bar doubles as the check-in counter. During slower times, the same staff handle both roles, but they seemed irritated when I asked for basic items like silverware while dining at the bar. There’s no secure, nearby self-parking, and the surrounding area didn’t feel particularly safe. As a result, you’re left with valet parking at around $20 per day. I will share as a bright spot that the bar manager and bartender when I was there were extremely friendly, and made great recommendations around local beer options. They seemed to take great pride in the quality and curation of the bar menu and the effort showed.

The environment at Moxy Allentown Downtown is designed to be "super festive and cozy," creating a "great first impression" as noted by a guest. The lobby is a central hub, featuring a lively bar that doubles as the check-in counter, fostering a social and interactive atmosphere. This space is vibrant and encourages guests to mingle, work, or relax. The overall concept is "playful" and focuses on social experiences rather than traditional luxury. While the aesthetic is unique and aims for a "whimsical take on glamping," some may find the design choices to be "overdone and largely impractical" for certain traveler types, particularly business travelers. Despite this, the rooms are consistently described as "clean and tidy," which is a fundamental aspect of the hotel's environment. The hotel aims for a youthful and energetic vibe, which is reflected in its decor and communal areas.
The services at Moxy Allentown Downtown emphasize efficiency and social interaction. The check-in process is integrated with the bar, where the same staff members might handle both roles, which can lead to some irritation during busy periods when asking for basic items. However, the "staff were really nice and welcoming," with the bar manager and bartender receiving particular praise for being "extremely friendly" and taking "great pride in the quality and curation of the bar menu." This highlights a strong point in their personalized beverage service. The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk. While there is no traditional full-service restaurant, the lobby bar serves as a key dining and social hub. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and mobile check-in/check-out services are part of the modern experience. The hotel also offers express check-out. For those with pets, Moxy Allentown is pet-friendly, though additional charges may apply. Valet parking is available, but at a cost (around $20 per day), and there's no secure, nearby self-parking. This can be a significant consideration for guests with vehicles, especially given a perception of the "surrounding area didn’t feel particularly safe."
The features of the rooms at Moxy Allentown Downtown are where its unconventional design truly comes to light. The rooms are compact and designed with a minimalist approach, which might be a departure from what some travelers expect. As one reviewer pointed out, there is "no wardrobe or closet—just 30 wall hooks" for hanging clothes. For a work surface, there is "no traditional desk or chair"; instead, there's a "wall-mounted board that folds down as a makeshift desk, and a wooden folding chair—more like a luggage rack—hanging on those same hooks." This setup is practical for short stays but potentially inconvenient for longer trips or for business travelers needing a dedicated workspace. The rooms also lack a coffee maker, likely due to space constraints, requiring guests to go to the lobby for coffee. Beds are queen-sized, with a significant point of feedback being that the "bed was way too firm" and pillows "not very comfortable," impacting sleep quality. A crucial missing feature for some is the absence of blackout curtains, leading to rooms getting "bright really early" and potentially disrupting sleep. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries. Smart TVs are available for entertainment. Despite these unique design choices, the rooms are consistently noted for being "clean."

Apr 08, 2025 · AlexThe lobby was super festive and cozy, which made a great first impression. The staff were really nice and welcoming, and the room itself was clean and tidy. That said, the bed was way too firm for my taste, and the pillows didn’t help much—just not very comfortable. Also, there were no blackout curtains, so the room got bright really early, which kind of messed with my sleep. Overall, it was decent for a short stay, but I probably wouldn’t pick it again if I wanted a really good night’s rest.
Apr 18, 2025 · Mickey KalishThis is a very cute spot. My husband and I went to have some drinks. Rachel, the bartender, was great. Very good service didn't have to wait sat at the bar and got served a drink right away. The atmosphere is great. Love the different lounge areas they have super cute. This will definitely be our new chill spot to go to and have a few drinks on a Friday or Saturday night.
Mar 10, 2025 · LlorraineI visited the Moxy Allentown as a bar guest recently. The bartenders Zach, Lydia, and Laura were absolutely exceptional. They were conversational, welcoming, and truly made me want to come back as a customer. Every one of them was constantly working and checking on patrons. As someone in the industry it was refreshing to see people who care about their job and their establishment. They deserve the recognition
Apr 18, 2025 · Steve JohnsonConvenient location next tona music venue. The room was clean and comfortable. And affordable. They gave me a free drink token for the bar. The only downfall is there is no parking at the hotel, but I would stay here again.
