For local users and travelers seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" in North Haven, Connecticut, the North Haven Hotel, located at 201 Washington Ave, North Haven, CT 06473, USA, presents a highly varied and, at times, contradictory guest experience. It is crucial to provide an objective introduction based on the most recent customer reviews to offer a realistic picture of what a potential guest might encounter at this property.
The environment of the North Haven Hotel elicits strong and divergent opinions from guests. On one hand, a reviewer found it a "really nice place to stay," appreciating the convenience of a "sliding glass door to the courtyard" from their room, which significantly eased taking their dog out. This particular feature highlights a thoughtful design aspect for pet owners, making their stay more convenient. The hotel also offers "plenty of parking in the lot," which is a practical benefit for guests arriving by car. However, a significant drawback noted is that "the hotel is a bit of a maze," implying a potentially confusing layout for new visitors. On the other hand, a much more critical review describes the place as a "rundown dump," citing an "entire building smells like cheap perfume" and more distressingly, the presence of "black mold in the tile grout" and "more leaves in the entry hallways than there were in the woods." These observations point to severe issues with general cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep that significantly detract from the hotel's appeal and comfort. The unsanitary conditions extend to the pool area bathrooms, with non-functional toilets and "toilet walls were black," indicating a dire need for cleaning and repair. The presence of "homeless men in the lobby, begging for cigarettes and money" right in front of the front desk, with no intervention, also raises serious concerns about security and the general ambiance of the public spaces, impacting the safety and comfort of paying guests.
The services at the North Haven Hotel also present a mixed bag. One reviewer positively notes that the "front desk staff was always very helpful and courteous," suggesting that individual interactions with staff members can be pleasant and efficient. This is a crucial element for any hotel's service quality. However, another significant service deficiency is the frequency of "room services every three days," which was not communicated to guests until after three days, leading to "trash cans were overflowing in our towels are getting soggy." This indicates a severe understaffing issue ("shorthanded") that directly impacts fundamental guest comfort and hygiene. The reported unresponsiveness of the "emergency number" is also a critical service failure, leaving guests without support in urgent situations. While complimentary breakfast is offered and described as "really good for a hotel breakfast" with "always plenty of food and options," this positive aspect of service is overshadowed by the more pressing issues of cleanliness and general hotel management.
Regarding features, the North Haven Hotel does offer some basic amenities. Rooms may include a "sliding glass door to the courtyard," a notable convenience for pet owners. The presence of a pool, even one described as very old with a "10 foot deep end" (a depth "not even allowed anymore," suggesting its age and potential non-compliance with modern standards), is still a feature that some guests might seek. The complimentary breakfast, as mentioned, is a valued feature for its variety and quantity. The mention of "a couple bugs lurking around" in the room upon arrival, even if resolved, points to an underlying pest control issue. The overall impression of the hotel's features is that they are dated and poorly maintained, requiring a significant overhaul. The structural issues, including the "very old hotel" appearance and critical maintenance gaps, are highlighted by the drastic suggestion that the "place needs to be leveled to the dirt and rebuilt."
When considering promotional information for the North Haven Hotel, it is important to infer from the reviews that its primary "promotion" is likely its price point. Given the significant and pervasive issues reported by guests regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and environment, the hotel likely caters to a highly budget-conscious traveler who prioritizes low cost above all other considerations. There is no specific information provided about loyalty programs, discounts, or packages. Prospective guests searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" and considering this hotel should contact them directly at (203) 239-6700 or +1 203-239-6700 to confirm current rates, pet policies, and any specific concerns they may have. However, based on the strong negative feedback from some guests, it is crucial to temper expectations significantly and be prepared for a stay that might require a high degree of self-reliance and tolerance for less-than-ideal conditions. The contrasting positive review suggests that individual experiences can vary, but the severity of the negative comments cannot be overlooked. While one guest expressed a willingness to "definitely stay again" due to the helpful staff and pet-friendly courtyard access, another unequivocally stated, "We will never stay here again." This stark contrast underscores the need for extreme caution and preparedness when considering this property.
In conclusion, the North Haven Hotel, for those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" in North Haven, CT, presents a highly polarizing picture. While it offers a convenient location with ample parking and a pet-friendly policy with useful courtyard access from some rooms, along with a decent complimentary breakfast and helpful front desk staff, these positives are significantly overshadowed by severe concerns regarding overall cleanliness, pervasive odors, pest infestations, neglected maintenance, and security issues in public areas. The hotel appears to be in dire need of comprehensive renovations and improved management practices to meet even basic hospitality standards. Therefore, while it may appeal to the most budget-conscious travelers who are prepared to overlook significant deficiencies, it is unlikely to satisfy those seeking a comfortable, clean, and secure hotel experience.

Get directionsThis hotel was a really nice place to stay. When we first arrived in the room, we found a couple bugs lurking around, but we were able to get rid of them. I found out shortly after, the room had a sliding glass door to the courtyard. This was actually great, because it made it easier for me to take my dog out to do her business rather than having to walk through the entire hotel. The hotel is a bit of a maze, so be aware of where you are. There was plenty of parking in the lot. Breakfast was really good for a hotel breakfast. There was always plenty of food and options. The front desk staff was always very helpful and courteous. If I am ever back in the area, I would definitely stay again.
Oct 10, 2024 · Kate JasperThis place is a rundown dump. The entire building smells like cheap perfume. They are “shorthanded“ so room services every three days. We weren’t even told until after three days our trash cans were overflowing in our towels are getting soggy. There is black mold in the tile grout. The toilet in the woman’s room at the pool did not work and the one on the men’s room looks like it hadn’t been clean in over a year. The toilet walls were black. There were more leaves in the entry hallways than there were in the woods. You can tell that this is a very old hotel because the pool has a 10 foot deep end. That’s not even allowed anymore. This place needs to be leveled to the dirt and rebuilt. We will never stay here again. In addition, there were two homeless men, in the lobby, begging for cigarettes and money. This was right in front of the person working at the desk, who did nothing about it.
Oct 23, 2024 · Raymond BlanksWe left a filthy hotel and came to this Best Western at 11:00 at night. I could tell immediately after walking into the lobby that we were going to have a much better experience! It was clean and modern and didn't smell like smoke. Our room was clean, modern, and comfortable, and the continental breakfast was great. We only had one minor issue. My son found a stain on the comforter on the bed, (they don't use duvet covers,) and refused to sleep under it, so we put it on the floor. I took pictures and showed the front desk clerk the next morning. A manager reached out to us and refunded 50% of our stay. I thought that was reasonable. We would definitely stay here again!
Jun 01, 2024 · Joy RayNot a great neighborhood and didn't feel my truck was safe in the back lot by my room. The hotel absolutely stinks from some cheap perfumy "air freshener". Room was a bit worn for wear. Especially the carpet which didn't feel clean. And odd lodgers (residents?) roaming around the back lot. I just bolted by midnight and hit the road. Not recommended.
Oct 29, 2024 · Marc KLocation is great. The only down size is that they’re under staff so rooms don’t get clean regularly. But other than that the front desk staff is friendly and it’s a safe place to stay.
