Unironically if I could give negative stars , I would. The outside made the place look haunted. And the smell is an ungodly combo of earthworms, mildew, mold and bodily fluids. The ceiling was on the verge of collapsing in the hallway and the rooms. Don't get me started on the rooms. The smell was as dank as ever, there was black mold on the ceiling. There were holes in the walls, and the phone didn't even work. When we tried to get an obviously valid refund, they offered a "clean room" that likely doesn't exist. We declined and they refused to give our money back. We spoke to staff, and they said the owner did this all the time. Bottom line is, this place is a scam on every level

Pocono Resort & Conference Center - POCONO MOUNTAINS Introduce

For local users exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the Pocono Mountains region, the Pocono Resort & Conference Center - POCONO MOUNTAINS, located at 35 Hospitality Wy, White Haven, PA 18661, USA, presents a complex and highly contrasting set of experiences. You can contact them at (570) 443-7271 or +1 570-443-7271. As a resort and conference center, its primary services and goods for sale extend beyond simple overnight accommodation to include event hosting capabilities, meeting spaces, and recreational amenities, aiming to cater to both individual travelers and large groups attending events.

Environment and Location:

The Pocono Resort & Conference Center is situated in White Haven, PA, within the scenic Pocono Mountains. This region is renowned for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, and as a popular destination for leisure and group gatherings. While the specific address, "35 Hospitality Wy," suggests a dedicated area for hospitality establishments, the immediate environment around the resort itself is subject to varied interpretations by guests. One review dramatically describes the "outside made the place look haunted," indicating a potentially dilapidated or neglected exterior appearance. This contrasts with the inherent expectation of a "resort" environment, which typically suggests well-maintained grounds and an inviting aesthetic. As a conference center, its location would likely be chosen for its accessibility for groups traveling to events, and its setting within the Pocono Mountains might offer a sense of retreat and natural surroundings. However, the visual and olfactory descriptions provided by one guest (smell of "earthworms, mildew, mold and bodily fluids") paint a grim picture of the indoor environment's air quality and general upkeep. This suggests that despite being in a desirable natural region, the internal environment of the property itself may not consistently reflect the beauty of its surroundings. Conversely, another review from attendees of a large event found the property "clean and well run," suggesting that perhaps certain areas or recent maintenance efforts are more positive than others, or that experiences vary significantly based on the specific room or area of the complex. The overall environment, therefore, appears to be one of stark contrast, ranging from potentially neglected and unsanitary conditions to surprisingly well-maintained spaces, depending on the specific guest experience or perhaps the areas designated for events versus general accommodation.

Services and Amenities:

As a "Resort & Conference Center," this establishment is expected to offer a comprehensive range of services and amenities. Based on reviews, it includes facilities such as a "pool" and a "bar," which are common recreational and dining amenities found in resorts. The capacity to host "large events" is a key service, implying the presence of versatile meeting rooms, banquet halls, and associated logistical support for group functions. For an event, guests noted that "the staff was very attentive to our needs," suggesting a good level of service responsiveness for organized functions. This positive experience of staff attentiveness for events contrasts sharply with the described interaction for a refund, where staff allegedly stated "the owner did this all the time" (referring to denying refunds for poor conditions) and "refused to give our money back." This disparity points to a highly inconsistent service standard, where event-related services might be well-managed, but individual guest issues (especially those related to severe room problems) are handled poorly. Guest rooms are the primary accommodation service, but their quality is highly contentious. One review cites "holes in the walls," "black mold on the ceiling," a non-functional phone, and a pervasive "dank" smell, along with ceilings "on the verge of collapsing." This indicates severe deficiencies in room maintenance and habitability. Conversely, the other review mentioned being "pleasantly surprised how clean and well run it was," implying that some rooms or recent refurbishments might meet acceptable standards. The hotel's refusal to issue a refund for demonstrably poor conditions, despite offering a "clean room" that was deemed unlikely to exist, reveals a concerning service policy regarding guest satisfaction and problem resolution. This suggests a significant disconnect in how the hotel addresses individual complaints versus how it manages larger group events.

Features and Guest Experiences:

The Pocono Resort & Conference Center possesses several features that are presented with extreme divergence in guest experiences. Its core features include its capacity as a large-scale "event" venue, with "attentive staff" supporting these functions, and the presence of a "pool and bar" for guest recreation. The historical aspect of it being an "older hotel" is a feature that, for some, could be seen as charming or quaint, but for others, it translates into a lack of maintenance and outdated conditions. For those attending a "large event," the overall experience can be positive, with the event itself being "amazing" and the venue feeling like a "hidden gem" due to its cleanliness and operational efficiency in that context. However, the negative features described are profoundly alarming and directly impact the safety and comfort of individual room stays. These include the severe physical deterioration of rooms ("holes in the walls," "ceiling was on the verge of collapsing"), the presence of "black mold," and a pervasive, "ungodly" smell. A non-working phone in a room is also a critical safety concern. The most damning feature highlighted is the alleged "scam on every level" due to the refusal of refunds for uninhabitable conditions and staff reportedly acknowledging the owner's consistent practice of denying refunds. This suggests a systemic issue with customer satisfaction and ethical business practices for individual room bookings. The contrast in experiences is so stark that it implies either significant variability in room quality (perhaps some renovated, some neglected) or a vast difference in how the hotel prioritizes and maintains its event spaces versus its general guest rooms. For a guest seeking a comfortable, safe, and clean room, the negative features are paramount and deeply concerning.

Promotional Information and Considerations:

Given the highly conflicting reviews, any promotional information for Pocono Resort & Conference Center would likely focus heavily on its strengths as an event venue and its location in the Pocono Mountains. For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me" with an interest in hosting or attending a large event, the promotional message would emphasize the positive experiences of organized gatherings, the attentive staff for events, and the presence of amenities like the pool and bar. Terms like "ideal for conferences," "group retreats," and "celebrations" would likely be used, along with highlighting the "beautiful" Pocono Mountains setting. However, it is crucial for potential guests, particularly those looking for individual room bookings, to be aware of the severe discrepancies reported in guest experiences. The promotional material would naturally omit any mention of the alleged "haunted" exterior, "ungodly" smells, "black mold," collapsing ceilings, non-working phones, or the reported refund issues. Therefore, local users considering this venue for a personal stay based on general "Hotels Near Of Me" searches should exercise extreme caution. It is highly advisable to read recent reviews from multiple sources, and if possible, request to see the specific room assigned before committing to a stay, especially if booking independently rather than as part of a pre-arranged event. For event organizers, direct communication with the conference center to understand their specific event package offerings, and possibly a site visit, would be prudent to ensure the facilities meet expectations. The "hidden gem" aspect might only apply to certain parts of the property or specific event scenarios, while the "scam" aspect is a significant red flag for individual travelers. Transparency is clearly an issue, and prospective visitors must weigh the potential benefits of its conference facilities against the very serious and concerning issues reported for its standard accommodation.

We attended a large event at the property and while it was an older hotel, we were pleasantly surprised how clean and well run it was. It really is a hidden gem. We enjoyed the pool and bar, the event was amazing and the staff was very attentive to our needs. We would definitely stay here again when coming to the area

NO HOT WATER. You have to hold it in the right place (the middle) for ANY hot water to come out and even then it’s a 50/50 chance that you even get any. The pool is disgusting and dirty, I wouldn’t even go in it, floating bandaids and clumps of dirt at the bottom. The whole place smells like mothballs and weed and you’re surrounded by crackheads as soon as you walk out the door. The rooms are disgusting and the bathrooms are worse. Do NOT come here, I would recommend staying at the holiday inn down the road over this garbage, I promise it’s probably worth the extra money. Our blankets had BLOOD on them and when we requested new ones they never got them. The service was overall okay. I don’t recommend staying here at all unless it’s your LAST resort. I’m convinced that any good reviews on this place were written by the owner or by bots.

The employees that I saw here were extremely nice. The hotel could probably charge more money because of the good location if it remodeled. It was run down and needed lots of improvements. The pool had some stuff floating on the top so we didn’t go in it because it didn’t look that clean. If they remodeled and invested more money into repairs and maintenance it could have the potential to be a very nice hotel especially because of the great location. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you are on a budget and only care about having a bed to sleep in.

STOP!!!!! Do NOT stay here!!! This is the nastiest place we ever stayed at. The pool looks NOTHING like the picture that they advertised. It is full of algae and there is carpet around the pool with mold on it. There was only 6 guest which should have gave me a clue. Rooms had no heat which we think is for the reason of killing off bed bugs. Rooms smell awful! The toilet had floaters in the bowl and the toilet rocks. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT STAY AT THIS SO CALLED “RESORT”! There trash piled up in the stairwell. How is this place even allowed to be operating. We also had a used bath towel hanging in our bathroom.
