I stayed here in the spring of 2024. I saw the great photos and expected a thriving gay resort filled with people wanting to socialize. I arrived and I think I was the ONLY guest staying there. The help sat on the porch and just stared at me as I walked in like they were surprised someone was staying there. The staff at the desk seemed annoyed that I wasn't there at 6:30 pm to check in when that's what I listed. Traffic was bad and I arrived at 7 p.m. They even tried to call me, but I didn't want to answer the phone while I was driving. I stayed in a cherry room. The door's lock was just a sliding bolt. It seemed as if it was a great place decades ago, but nothing has been done since then. Everything seemed outdated. I assumed it seemed empty because it was a Thursday evening, but I'm not sure based on these other reviews.
When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a specific interest in an adults-only, LGBTQ+ friendly resort experience in the Pocono Mountains, Rainbow Mountain Resort stands out as a unique destination. Located at 210 Mt Nebo Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, USA, this resort has been serving the LGBTQ+ community and their friends since 1981, offering a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere amidst the natural beauty of the Poconos. While some aspects of the property reflect its long history, its core offerings aim to provide a comprehensive and engaging experience for its guests.
The environment of Rainbow Mountain Resort is characterized by its setting "high up in the Pocono mountains" on 26 private acres, which include a two-acre pond. This provides "spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range" and a secluded, woodsy, countryside escape from city life. The property's design allows for relaxation by the pool, drinks at the club, or simply hanging out in the hotel. However, it's important to note that the resort has a historical character, which means some areas might appear "outdated" or "run down," with reviews indicating that "nothing has been done since then" (decades ago) in certain parts. This suggests that while the structures are functional, they may not always reflect modern aesthetics or meticulous upkeep in all areas. Despite this, the expansive grounds, firepit, and garden areas contribute to a pleasant outdoor environment. The resort is designed to be a place where guests can "park your car when you get there and don't use it till you are going home. Everything you need is there," implying a self-contained environment for a relaxing stay.
The services at Rainbow Mountain Resort aim to be comprehensive, though guest experiences can vary. The front desk staff is available for check-in, check-out, and inquiries, although some guests have reported instances where staff seemed "annoyed" by late arrivals or "shrugged it off" when presented with security concerns, indicating an inconsistent service experience in some instances. However, other reviews praise the staff for being "friendly" and helpful, which suggests that service quality may depend on individual staff members or specific circumstances. Daily housekeeping is typically provided. The resort offers various services such as a business center, luggage storage, and a safe-deposit box at the front desk. Being an adults-only property (minimum age 21 for check-in and nightclub access, though the bistro welcomes all ages) is a key service aspect, catering to a specific demographic. Pets are allowed in select cabins, making it a pet-friendly option, though charges may apply. The resort also offers early and late check-in/check-out policies, with associated fees, requiring guests to communicate their arrival times, especially for late check-ins, to avoid being marked as "No Shows."
Rainbow Mountain Resort offers a diverse range of features, catering to leisure and entertainment. Accommodation types vary, including rooms in the main lodge, single cabins, adjoining cabins, king cabins, king rooms (motel style), and even glamping tents. While some rooms may have "shared bathrooms," upgraded rooms typically include private bathrooms, smart TVs, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Some also feature mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Many cabins offer private porches, enhancing the secluded feel. A significant feature is the on-site dining, including "The Bistro at Rainbow Mountain," which offers American, Caribbean, and Dutch cuisine with vegetarian, dairy-free, and vegan options. There is also a coffee shop/cafe. The resort boasts three bars/lounges, a key aspect of its social and nightlife scene. For recreation, Rainbow Mountain Resort features an outdoor pool and deck (open seasonally, typically Memorial Day through mid-September) overlooking a pond and the mountain range, and a year-round 10-person hot tub. A fitness center/gym and a beautifully finished dry sauna are available for guests only. The resort also has an arcade/game room with billiards/pool tables, and offers various sports facilities like tennis, volleyball, badminton, and shuffleboard courts. There's also a firepit and garden area for relaxation.
A major draw for many guests is the vibrant social scene and entertainment options. The resort hosts a nightclub with regular operating hours on Friday and Saturday nights (9 pm – 2 am), often featuring "drag shows and DJs," providing a "fun and energetic atmosphere." Karaoke and live music/performances are also part of the evening entertainment. Themed dinner nights and live sport event broadcasts contribute to a lively social calendar. The resort's 26 acres provide opportunities for outdoor activities such as nature walks and hiking, with Mount Nebo Park just a few steps away for additional hiking and picnics. In winter, the proximity to Shawnee Mountain Ski Area makes it a convenient base for skiing and snow tubing. Other nearby attractions and activities include Bushkill Falls ("The Niagara of Pennsylvania"), the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and various antique malls and wineries. For guests looking for gaming, Mount Airy Casino is also within reach.
From a promotional perspective, Rainbow Mountain Resort primarily markets itself as a "haven for the LGBTQ community and friends" since 1981, emphasizing its inclusive and welcoming environment. Promotional efforts highlight the "secluded" mountain retreat aspect, combined with a focus on "Eat, Stay, Party, Visit," encapsulating the full experience offered. The presence of a vibrant nightclub, multiple bars, and themed events are key promotional points for its adults-only clientele. The resort also promotes its diverse accommodation options, from lodge rooms to private cabins and glamping tents, catering to different preferences and budgets. While the reviews indicate that some aspects of the property are "outdated" and "need some TLC," the resort's continued operation and the positive feedback on its amenities and overall atmosphere suggest that it appeals to guests seeking a specific type of experience. The convenient location near popular Pocono attractions like Shawnee Mountain Ski Area and Bushkill Falls is also leveraged in its promotional messaging. Guests can typically find information on current activities, events, and hours on the resort's website. Given its focus on the LGBTQ+ community and the specific amenities it provides, Rainbow Mountain Resort remains a relevant option within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category for those seeking such a unique and engaging experience in the Pocono Mountains.

Jan 11, 2025 · Doug KilburgThis place never disappoints. You park your car when you get there and don't use it till you are going home. Everything you need is there. 💥
May 12, 2025 · Lou Prantilthis place must have been a wonderful safe haven for the lqbtqia+ community….in 2002…..as of today i arrived to check in at 6:30 and waited outside in the cold for 45 minutes because there were no instructions given to me about anything except check in was no later that 7pm during the week day winter months. stranded in the mountains alone in the cold for 45 minutes after FULLY PAYING for a room last night….this seems like a take your money and run scheme than a queer safe space…i hope the owners decide to do something about firing their current general manager Jennifer, who by the way didn’t answer her five calls from me to her direct cell phone number OR any calls to the camp phone line, did not answer my emails, instagram dms, and did not even answer her own employee’s phone calls when a sweet wonderful man named Ariel helped me find my way after I had to flag him down off the road because he wasn’t working. He was just driving through and thank God he stopped because he is the only thing that made this better. IF YOU NEED A NEW GENERAL MANAGER GIVE ME A CALL!!! i actually run a very successful queer bar in PITTSBURGH and we pride ourselves on delivering our promises….UNLIKE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN….who lets peole book rooms at their resort, pay for said rooms, and then turns out the lights at the exact time guest arrive looking to check in…..i’m sure you get the picture by now…the actual staff is great but the owners/managers LITERALLY MUST HAVE AN IQ OF 4 if they think they can Predatorily take the LGBTQIA+s’ money and not deliver 5 star service….i mean we all work in HOSPITALITY so shouldn’t you tried to be hospitable at the very least? OH AND BY THE WAY, once Ariel so kindly did JENNIFER’S Job for her and got me settled in a we parted ways for the night….i go to brush my teeth and guess what? THERES NO RUNNING WATER IN THE SINK!!!!!!
Feb 28, 2025 · Luke FennellIf I could give negative stars, I would. First this is far from a “resort”. For $150 for one night, it was horrible. There was barely any light in the bathroom and no shower curtain. The door into the room was just like a bedroom door with a bedroom door lock. It smelled, it was dirty. The pictures were nothing like on social media or the website and the restaurant/lounge was not even open. We ended up leaving and not even spending the night. Do not recommend.
Sep 22, 2024 · Amber PucciExcuse the super long review but this place is ridiculous. My wife and I chose to celebrate our anniversary at Rainbow Mountain Resort based on positive feedback from people we trust. Unfortunately, it seems their experiences were from a time when the resort was under better management. We tried hard not to leave a negative review, but there were too many issues to ignore. We stayed at the Cherry House, which was advertised as having a spacious room, a private bathroom, and a TV. However, the room was extremely small and outdated. The TV was a 26-inch flatscreen propped precariously on the dresser, and at one point, it slid off, knocking our belongings to the floor. The walls were scuffed, with multiple dents and nail holes. The windows lacked screens, meaning we couldn't open them for fear of letting in bugs or small animals since we were on the first floor. The carpet appeared old and unclean, and there were spider webs covering the ceiling. The bathroom was the one positive aspect, with modern stone floors and a cute vanity. The heat and the toilet worked well, so we had no issues there. Customer service was a major disappointment. Despite the staff being friendly, they struggled to service us even though we were the only guests there. The food took an hour to arrive, with the excuse that it was made fresh—yet, it was of poor quality. My wife, who is a professional chef, couldn’t understand how they could mess up simple dishes like fried rice and tortellini. Even basic items like coffee or a toasted bagel with butter were done wrong. My wife requested tea, and they filled her cup only halfway with water. When she asked for a refill, they brought back her old mug with the used tea bag, which they had clearly retrieved from the kitchen sink. Housekeeping was also a letdown. We left the room service sign on our door, but no one came to change the sheets or towels. After spilling something on the bed, we personally requested new linens, even repeating our room number, but the sheets were never replaced. The staff left for the day at 3 PM without informing us that guest services were closed for the evening. We spent our last night sleeping on top of the comforter because the linens had never been changed. To add to the frustration, they didn’t even provide extra tissue, and we had to use Uber Eats to get more. Our last day there was a Drag Brunch which was a wonderful performance however aside from a couple that came with one of the performers we were the only people in attendance. My wife and I thought there would be more people from the LGBTQ+ community there but we just came across a few straight couples checking in and out. Although the resort has potential, it seems the management has no interest in renovating or improving the experience. Based on other reviews, it’s clear that they aren’t making any efforts to address these ongoing issues. While we enjoyed our time in town, especially on Main St., we will not be staying at Rainbow Mountain Resort again.
