For individuals searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University is an option located at 1119 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19713, USA. It can be contacted by phone at (302) 368-8521 or via mobile at +1 302-368-8521. This introduction will provide an objective overview of the hotel, combining general information with critical insights derived directly from recent customer reviews, covering its environment, services, features, and any relevant promotional considerations.
The Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University is situated on S College Ave in Newark, Delaware, suggesting a location that might cater to visitors of the University of Delaware, or those traveling through the area. The immediate environment, as depicted by guest feedback, presents significant concerns. The presence of "2 cop cars in the front" upon arrival immediately created a sense of unease for one guest, suggesting a potentially unsafe or troubled atmosphere. Furthermore, the hallways are described as cluttered with "dressers, a mini fridge covered in stickers and all types of personal furniture items," indicating a lack of upkeep and a disorganized environment. These observations paint a picture of a hotel that may not maintain a welcoming or well-ordered appearance, leading to negative first impressions and concerns about overall safety and cleanliness. The general environment, therefore, appears to be one that could detract significantly from a guest's experience.
The services and amenities offered at Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University, as reported by recent guests, appear to be severely lacking and problematic. Customer service from the front desk staff is repeatedly described as having "an attitude," with staff reportedly looking at each other "with disgust before responding." This indicates a consistent issue with basic hospitality and professionalism. Furthermore, significant problems with fundamental room amenities were reported: a non-functional washer and dryer, a broken phone in the room, and "horribly slow" Wi-Fi. The inability to use these basic services can severely impact a guest's stay, especially for longer durations. A highly distressing service failure involved an unannounced entry into a guest's room by what was later identified as "housekeeping," which caused significant fear and was not met with an apology or offer to switch rooms. This incident highlights a serious lapse in security protocols and guest privacy. Additionally, issues with refund policies and deposit returns were reported, with a guest claiming they were "robbed" of their deposit and an extra night's payment, despite contradicting written policy. Rules regarding cooking for long-term guests were also mentioned, with staff allegedly not adhering to the same rules they enforce on guests, leading to "horrid food" smells. Overall, the reported service quality is critically low, with significant failures in customer interaction, room functionality, security, and basic hospitality.
The features of Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University, as described by guests, point to a property in severe disrepair. The hotel is characterized as "falling apart" and having "ROACHES." Specific room features that were deficient include a "STRONG urine odor" upon entry, "left over bowel movement in the toilet," a top sheet that "smelled like urine so bad we had to put it on the balcony," and a "chewed up" toilet seat. Bathroom lights were described as "barely worked." The door locks were noted as "very weak," causing guests to feel unsafe and resort to blocking the door with furniture. These descriptions indicate a profound lack of maintenance, cleanliness, and basic hygiene. The presence of roaches and significant sanitation issues are critical concerns for any hotel. While a hotel is expected to provide fundamental features like working utilities and secure rooms, the feedback suggests these are either non-existent or severely compromised. The fact that guests felt compelled to report issues to the health department and take "MANY MANY pictures throughout the hotel and how it’s FALLING apart" underscores the severity of these feature deficiencies. The living situation of some staff within the hotel and their alleged disregard for rules further compounds the perception of a poorly managed and maintained property.
For local users considering "Hotels Near Of Me," any promotional information for Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University would be severely undermined by the overwhelming negative guest experiences. While hotels typically promote features like comfort, cleanliness, and convenient amenities, the consistent and severe complaints outlined in the reviews paint a starkly different picture. Phrases like "DO NOT BOOK HERE SLEEP OUTSIDE INSTEAD!" and "0/10 would NOT recommend! I will never book here again Id rather sleep outside!" are direct and powerful warnings from former guests. The reports of unreturned deposits, non-functional appliances, roaches, strong odors, weak security, and intrusive staff behavior are profoundly damaging. The lack of basic cleanliness and the feeling of being unsafe are fundamental failures for any accommodation. Therefore, potential guests, particularly those searching for a reliable and comfortable stay, should be acutely aware of these documented issues. The information strongly advises against booking here if personal safety, hygiene, and basic comfort are priorities. The customer reviews indicate that this property, despite its brand name, consistently fails to meet even the most basic expectations for a hotel stay, rendering any standard promotional claims highly questionable in light of the severe and numerous reported deficiencies.

This place will rob u blind!…I never got my deposit back or the $88 spent for 1 more night but was forced to check out! N told “ it’s in our policy “ so a little back story - bf n I got help via the state for hotel voucher n after the 3 weeks we were going to pay out of pocket- well we paid for 1 more night and the staff said to cancel it; that we had to leave then come back….. like NO NO NO ITS NOT IN UR POLICY as I read it entirely! I have the conversation recorded too so if she tries to lie I have that conversation too! The washer n dryer doesn’t work The phone doesn’t work The place is falling apart and has ROACHES! I’ll be making a call to the health department on Monday to file a report as I have MANY MANY pictures throughout the hotel and how it’s FALLING apart. Very first night we had a flood in our room. the staff all live in the hotel n don’t follow the rules just like everyone else is forced to follow or you’ll be kicked out. Careful everyone who stays long term ur not allowed to cook anything even if u have the correct stuff. Oh but you can’t complain when u smell the horrid food the staff make!. Especially yesterday during check out all I could smell was the food they were making and I wanted to VOMIT!… but anyways the rules should apply to the staff too not just guests who stay here. Residents are not any different than a guest.
Mar 15, 2025 · Noneya GetalifeDO NOT BOOK HERE SLEEP OUTSIDE INSTEAD! When we first arrived, there were 2 cop cars in the front so we already felt as though this might not be such a great location. Then we were met with an attitude from front desk staff while checking in for what reason I’m not sure. Every time you go to the front desk for anything they both look at each other with disgust before responding to you. Walking up to the room, there were dressers, a mini fridge covered in stickers and all types of personal furniture items just sitting in the hallway. When we got inside the room, we were met with a STRONG urine oder as soon as you open the door and there was left over bowel movement in the toilet. The locks on the doors were very weak, a paperclip would’ve made me feel safer than those so called locks. Most importantly I was woken out of my sleep to somebody coming in my room UNANNOUNCED! I called the front desk explaining the situation and asked to switch rooms and I was told it was housekeeping on that floor and to just put a sign on the door, but if it was housekeeping why didn’t they knock? And most importantly why didn’t they announce that they were housekeeping? The situation was very scary being woken up to strangers coming into your room unannounced and then not being accommodated. I’ve booked plenty hotels and have NEVER had housekeeping just bust up in my room. They didn’t say sorry for scaring you they did absolutely NOTHING! After that incident we had to put the bedside table in front of the door just to feel safe! The top sheet smelled like urine so bad we had to put it on the balcony just to be able to breathe! The lights in the bathroom barely worked, the toilet seat was so chewed up AND the wifi is so horribly slow! You’ll miss your birthday waiting for a page to refresh! 0/10 would NOT recommend! I will never book here again Id rather sleep outside! I felt so itchy the entire stay. This place is so rundown and you can tell nobody cares to do anything about it.
Mar 19, 2025 · Jada Lynn (jlc)So I have been staying here for 4 days for work an when I left for work I put my $250 vape on charge, because I had a throw away one in my pocket and my real vape had to be charged but when I come back to the room my vape and the fluid was missing but yet my samsung galaxy watch was still in the room. So they know the watch can be tracked but not the vape. At 1st I tho this was a nice place but now I don't know. Went down to the front desk and said something to him about it and the guy in the office said oh I thought you checked out but if I was checked out, why would my duffel bag and everything else be in the room? And if you thought I checked out the bed should have been made.So that means somebody literally came in here and went through my stuff. An i guess they olney reply to good reviews. My last day here is tomorrow an i still have work to be done here an i don't think I will stay here anymore more my $250 vipe is still missing an when I when to the front desk this morning the young girl gave me an attitude, as I was told last night to come down this morning. And the young lady told me well, you can just check out now. An will not be refunded money.!
Mar 24, 2025 · Kyle AyersMy 6 month anniversary and my boyfriends birthday happened to be 3 days apart so we went on 04/23-04/24 . We had the Jacuzzi king suite.. The 24th was our anniversary. It was amazing and the room was spectacular and clean . Love the fact that you only have to pay a $1 deposit when having a a card on file. P.s of course we paid a $20 tip for the rose petals left lol but the maid was amazing aswell
