Theresa at the front desk is so lovely. The rooms are spacious and the cleaning staff do an amazing job prepping and cleaning the rooms. However, I wish someone left a realistic review about what the stay is actually like. The area is so dense and loud. Just low-grade chain and fast food restaurants around but the benefit is that it’s right off 495. I’ve never been to a hotel with this many children and young teens. They were running up and down the halls screaming all night, over crowded the breakfast area and left an absolute mess behind, were in the gym with zero supervision and they basically own the pool so don’t bother bringing swimming gear. Someone was heavily smoking in their room and it filtered into our room and bathroom the entire weekend. We called the front desk to alert them but it still persisted the next day. Parking lot is tightly spaced with extra security perusing the grounds and keycard entry at night time. That should have told us enough about the property and area. It’s a shame because it’s a newer Residence Inn but the guests plus no comfort to enjoy the amenities included make us not want to return ever.
When seeking a comfortable and practical stay in the Maryland region, particularly near the Joint Base Andrews area, the Residence Inn Upper Marlboro Joint Base Andrews presents itself as a notable option. Designed with extended stays in mind, this hotel strives to offer a home-away-from-home experience, combining the spaciousness of apartment-style living with the convenience of hotel amenities. For Maryland locals, whether you’re hosting visitors, in need of temporary housing, or simply planning a local getaway, understanding the unique offerings and atmosphere of this Residence Inn is key.
Opened in 2019, the hotel is a relatively newer addition to the area, featuring modern designs and contemporary facilities. Guests frequently highlight the spaciousness of the rooms, often describing them as "mini apartments" due to the inclusion of full kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas. This setup is a significant advantage for families, military personnel, or anyone requiring more than a standard hotel room.
The staff, particularly at the front desk, often receives high praise for being "super nice," "super kind," and "super fast" even during busy periods. Individuals like Theresa, Alexia or Alexis, and Bree have been specifically mentioned for their welcoming demeanor and helpfulness, contributing to an inviting and upscale family vibe in the lobby area. The cleaning staff are also commended for their excellent work in prepping and maintaining the rooms.
However, it's also important to note that some guests have shared experiences regarding the hotel's environment that may influence a stay. Concerns have been raised about high activity levels from children and teens, particularly in common areas like the breakfast area, gym, and pool, sometimes leading to crowded and noisy conditions. There have also been isolated reports of persistent odors, such as smoke filtering into rooms, which, despite being reported to the front desk, continued to be an issue for some guests. The parking lot has been described as tightly spaced, with extra security present on the grounds and keycard entry at night, suggesting an increased awareness of the surrounding area.
Despite these varying experiences, the Residence Inn Upper Marlboro Joint Base Andrews remains a significant option in the area, offering a strong foundation of spacious accommodations and dedicated staff, particularly suited for those seeking the comforts of a suite with kitchen facilities.

Mar 16, 2025 · Kristy VoWe stayed here for our DC family visit/ (mix of work trip lol). The rooms are so big. Kind of like a mini apartment. They were doing a small spot of ceiling work in the lobby but that didn’t take away from how inviting and upscale family vibe the living room/lobby area was. Super nice staff. Alexia or Alexis was super kind and got ketchup for us when our DoorDash forgot to bring it and Bree was super fast and check even though those super hot military guys were checking in all at once
Jan 18, 2025 · Alisa JerniganHotel was clean. Security was good. Broken ice machine but the front desk had no problem getting me ice from the kitchen. I did notice someone was always cleaning up in the common areas.
Apr 28, 2025 · Kathy DaubUnbearable Stench – Housekeeping & Management Need to Step Up! We stayed at this Residence Inn for a basketball tournament, and while we were expecting a comfortable stay, we were instead hit with an overwhelming fishy stench that made our room nearly uninhabitable. From the moment we stepped in, the odor was so pungent it felt like we had walked into a fish market, not a hotel room. The front desk staff was kind enough to acknowledge the issue and provided a room freshener and a sink dispenser solution to help, but let’s be real—no amount of air freshener can mask a smell this horrific. This wasn’t just a mild inconvenience; it was an assault on our senses. We tried airing the room out, but the odor was embedded in the carpets, walls, or possibly the HVAC system. Frankly, housekeeping and management should have never let this room be available to guests until the smell was fully taken care of. Whether it’s due to poor cleaning standards or a maintenance issue, it is unacceptable to charge guests for a room that reeks this bad. Future guests—if you value your sense of smell and a comfortable stay, be sure to confirm that your room is fresh and livable before settling in. We expected better from Residence Inn.
Feb 17, 2025 · Sam BanerjeeWe stayed here on 2/1/25-2/2/25 and to my surprise, it was just ok for it to be a brand new location. The pool was very over-crowded with kids on the evening of 2/1/25.I expressed my concern for a few broken things in the room since we had small kids with us and nothing was done about it. When I checked out, there wasnt a manager on duty so I called back later on in the week and was told someone would reach out to me.I called back a few days later and expressed my concerns since there was no accomodations offered. I was told by the front desk reception that mgmt said they cant do anything about my concerns.I wasn’t looking for a refund but at least some points or another night. There was nobody concerned or even wanted to fix the issues. This was for room 423.
