Honest review: We recently had a 2 night 3 day stay (double room “upgraded suites”. Location: 👍🏻Great! Near the Avalon, food, hospitals, etc. Hotel itself: Odor: 👎🏻 Over use of air fresheners, which do not effectively mask the smell of burning marijuana and cigarettes. Clean?: 👎🏻 Needs work, the floors were sticky around lobby. Hotel maintenance workers leave ladders, paints, and tools laying around the hallways (not idea when you have a toddler). 👎🏻 The hallways smelled like burning weed, and some weird type of freshener they douse the carpets either. Staff: 👎🏻 Blatantly Rude. The answer to questions like, “can we have a few extra pillows” (the beds only have two pillows a piece), is “no, we don’t keep extra pillows”. When calling the front desk, they advise you to come to the front to ask questions- guess they don’t like chatting on the phone. Room(s): 👎🏻 Unfortunately for us, they were gross. Fortunately for the sake of an honest review, we stayed in 2 different rooms so the negative review stays consistent and isn’t just a fluke. Clean?: 👎🏻 Nope. The tub has mold around it. The floors are sticky. The rooms have a musky, damp smell (occasionally smells like Marijuana coming through the window from parking lot). Sound(s): 👎🏻 Not relaxing. The a/c handlers in the bedroom sounds like a 747 is taking off. You can hear everyone walking around above you all hours of the night. Bathrooms: both rooms we stayed in had mildew around tub and were dirty in toilets. The shower curtains don’t keep the water in, which explains the musky room smells as the floor floods every shower. Sorry- we wanted to love it, and fave them a chance to move our rooms on the second day, but all around awful. Also workers taped, the side door open, and people just walk in and out from the parking lot around the hotel all evening… Does not feel very safe.

The strategic location of Sonesta ES Suites Atlanta Alpharetta Avalon is one of its strongest selling points. Situated on North Point Pkwy, it offers excellent proximity to popular Alpharetta destinations. It is notably close to Avalon, a prominent mixed-use development with upscale retail, dining, and entertainment options, which is a significant draw for leisure travelers. Other nearby attractions include North Point Mall, Wills Park Recreation Center, and the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre. The hotel's accessibility to GA 400 makes it convenient for exploring the greater Atlanta area, including downtown Atlanta attractions and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (approximately 49.6 km away).
However, it is crucial to present an objective view based on recent customer reviews, which highlight significant concerns that potential guests should be aware of when considering this property. Several reviews point to issues with the hotel's cleanliness and maintenance. Guests have reported a persistent odor of air fresheners attempting to mask smells of marijuana and cigarettes, indicating potential issues with air quality. Common areas, including the lobby, have been described as having sticky floors. Maintenance issues, such as ladders and tools left in hallways, were noted, raising safety concerns, especially for families with young children. Room cleanliness has also been a recurring complaint, with mentions of mold around tubs, sticky floors, and a musky, damp smell. Towels have been described as not smelling clean, and issues with shower curtains failing to contain water, leading to bathroom flooding, have been reported.
Guest feedback on staff service has also been mixed. While some general information may suggest a friendly staff, specific detailed reviews, such as the "Honest review" provided, describe staff as "blatantly rude" and unwilling to accommodate simple requests like extra pillows. Instances of front desk staff directing callers to come to the front desk in person also suggest a potential lack of helpfulness or efficiency. There was also a report of a major water leak and a perceived lack of urgency from management in addressing the issue and accommodating guests, leading to demands for refunds.
Further concerns from reviews include noise issues, with loud air conditioning units and audible foot traffic from upper floors disrupting sleep. The overall impression from these critical reviews suggests that while the hotel's concept and location are appealing, its execution in terms of cleanliness, maintenance, and consistent staff service appears to be a significant challenge. Guests have noted the rooms are outdated and that the hotel is in need of a refresh. The presence of pet odors, despite the pet-friendly policy, has also been mentioned.
In summary, Sonesta ES Suites Atlanta Alpharetta Avalon offers the advantage of an all-suite, extended-stay format with full kitchens, complimentary breakfast, and a prime location near Alpharetta's key attractions. It also provides valuable amenities such as a seasonal outdoor pool, fitness center, and a pet-friendly policy. However, prospective guests are strongly advised to consider recent customer feedback regarding cleanliness, maintenance, noise levels, and potentially inconsistent staff service, as these factors may significantly impact the overall stay experience. While the hotel has the potential to be a comfortable home away from home, the objective reality from recent guest accounts indicates areas requiring considerable improvement to meet guest expectations for a pleasant and safe stay.

Apr 30, 2025 · A. LTrue honest review. Stayed here for ONE night while on a business trip. The room is outdated and hotel needs to have a refresh, it’s dark inside and the room. You can tell pets are allowed here (smells bad). Towels don’t smell like bleach (like a clean towel). They smell like they weren’t washed in detergent. At least the bed sheets were clean and smelled decent. They had a MAJOR water leak the next morning (today). I was working out, got done and the hallway to my room was flooded. No sense of urgency from management to get it cleaned up OR accommodate guest properly. I had to ask for a room change but I demanded a refund and cancelled my reservation for tonight. Management came in and had NO clue what was happening or they seemed like they didn’t. They did give me a partial refund. I would NOT recommend staying here. Stay at the Hilton OR stay with reputable companies. Again, DO NOT STAY HERE.
Feb 20, 2025 · Joshua DoverEveryone was very nice and professional. They made our extended stay relaxed and friendly. They always provided enough daily care with linen’s, towels and other essentials. They have complimentary laundry and a quiet office space. The breakfast is regular eggs, potatoes, cereal and oatmeal with sausage sometimes. Pancakes are good. The atmosphere is nice to eat in. We enjoyed our stay.
Mar 17, 2025 · Gwendolyn HooksDIRTY!! All staff is extremely rude and the facility is very very dirty. The hallways smell of marijuana, the doors are taped open so no key card is required for entry, the rooms are dirty with stains all over walls/toilets/tub. There was a chip/hole in the bathroom ceiling in one of our rooms. The beds are terribly uncomfortable and staff is unwilling to provide additional pillows (be prepared for a war). You have to pay additional fees for parking, and they don’t tell you they are charging you for early or late checkout. When calling the front desk to ask a question, staff said “just come up here and talk to me” and then hung up the phone. Management was present during this conversation and supported the staff member. It’s a very gross “apartment complex” and I highly highly suggest staying elsewhere to keep your family healthy and safe.
Apr 30, 2025 · KaseyThis was our first time at this hotel. The customer service was great, however the room smelled like popcorn. It was very clean and everything just the smell of room.
