This unique property, a lovingly restored historic building, redefines comfort and elegance in the heart of Bucksport. While direct phone numbers for booking are not universally advertised as with traditional hotels, the property can be contacted through its website and various booking platforms. The dedicated "lovely hosts" are often available on-site to assist guests.
The environment of Spofford Lodge is a harmonious blend of historical significance and modern sophistication. The building itself is a beautifully "transformed" historic structure, originally built as a school in the early 1900s and later owned by the Freemasons. In late 2022, it was purchased and "lovingly restored from the ground up," with renovations completed for the first and second floors by Christmas 2023. This meticulous restoration has retained the building's original charm and many characteristics while integrating entirely new, modern facilities including plumbing, safe electrics, and functional heating. The exterior features a grand shared entrance, hinting at the luxury within. Inside, the suites are found on the second floor, accessed via a large flight of stairs. While there are communal hallway spaces, the focus is on the privacy and curated comfort of each individual suite. The lodge is ideally situated in Bucksport, a "sleepy town" that offers "unparalleled majestic views of Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Bridge and observatory." It stands just "one block away from the Bucksport waterfront," providing easy access to a "very welcoming Harbor walk" and a "bustling local town vibe." This location allows guests to quickly walk to downtown amenities, including a quaint bookshop with coffee, a famous local ice cream parlor, a 150-year-old theater, and even a "secret courtyard" for a glass of wine. Beyond Bucksport, the lodge is conveniently located, approximately 40 minutes from the famed Acadia National Park, 30 minutes from Bangor International Airport, and 30 minutes from the mid-coast gem of Belfast, with trendy Searsport just 15 minutes away. This strategic positioning offers a perfect base for exploring the mid-coast of Maine while enjoying a serene local atmosphere. The hosts reside on-site, contributing to a welcoming and personalized environment, and guests might even encounter their "very vocal" yet "skittish" and "bossy" cat, BR, who lives with them but not in the suites, ensuring allergen-free accommodations.
Spofford Lodge - Exclusive Suites prides itself on offering services that elevate the guest experience beyond a typical hotel stay, emphasizing luxury and thoughtful attention to detail. Each "exclusive suite" is designed to be a self-contained haven, equipped with a "well-appointed kitchenette" featuring a refrigerator, toaster, and coffee machine, allowing guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals. A standout service is the provision of "perfect coffee/espresso" from a "state of the art coffee machine," a detail highly appreciated by guests. The suites also include "washer/dryer" facilities, which are invaluable for extended stays, providing a true home-away-from-home convenience. The bathrooms offer a touch of indulgence with "heated bathroom floors and towels," as well as "soaking tubs" and "large rainfall showers," complemented by bathrobes and quality toiletries. The "curated wine selection" available within the suites is another unique amenity, allowing guests to enjoy a drink without leaving their luxurious space. While there is no concierge service to carry luggage up the stairs to the second-floor suites, the hosts are "always happy to chat or come and assist if there is an issue with your suite," demonstrating a commitment to guest satisfaction. They prefer communication via inbox but are available to address concerns. High-quality bed linens, memory foam mattresses, and seasonal comforters contribute to a "magical night's sleep." The hosts also provide thoughtful "special touches" which are "heartfelt" and enhance the overall experience. Free WiFi is available throughout the property, ensuring guests can stay connected. The lodge offers private parking on-site and is equipped with air conditioning and heating for year-round comfort.
The defining features of Spofford Lodge - Exclusive Suites lie in their meticulous design and luxurious appointments, which seamlessly integrate the building's historic character with modern amenities. Each of the three generous suites on the second floor – including the Abacus Suite, Blueprint Suite, and Inkwell Suite – is "uniquely decorated and completely renovated." They all boast a "King bed" with "incredibly comfortable" memory foam mattresses. The bathrooms are a highlight, offering not only "heated bathroom floors and towels" but also "soaking tubs" and "large rainfall showers." The inclusion of high-end appliances, such as the "actual espresso machine in the suite" that is "very easy to use," elevates the in-room experience. Guests appreciate the "well appointed kitchenette" for its functionality and convenience, making self-catering a pleasure. The presence of a "washer/dryer" directly within the suite provides unmatched convenience for longer visits. Beyond the individual suites, the property itself is a "lovingly restored large brick building with a grand shared entrance," maintaining its historic charm. While the suites are on the second floor and require guests to carry their luggage up a large flight of stairs (making them "not suited for guests with mobility issues"), this preserves the architectural integrity of the original school rooms. Safety features include a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. The blend of "historic charm and modern luxury" creates a breathtaking aesthetic, described by guests as feeling "right at home with added luxury" and "more beautiful than the pictures showed." The "thoughtfully curated spaces" and "unique decor" are consistently praised, contributing to an inviting and memorable stay. The property also offers free parking on street and onsite parking options.
