We stayed in Room 107, very outdated, smelled musty( had to go to local store and get a Renuzit) shower head plastic, holes in screens to sliding door, could not keep the sliding glass doors open as the mosquitos were coming in. The furniture is very uncomfortable to sit in, old and outdated. The worst was the bed. The bed was lumpy, springs sticking into our backs, looked like it was 20 years old. Did not line up to the head board. The rec room was nice, but the musty smell was overwhelming. The restaurant/lounge on site, is only open on days of shows/events. Did not use outdoor pool. Indoor pool and facilities were beautiful, but unfortunately were at another facility which as about a 20 min. drive-one way- up a mountain. Only plus was the view of the lake accross the street.
For local users exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform category, Tanglwood Resorts, located at 9 Crest Dr, Hawley, PA 18428, USA, presents itself as a significant resort complex in the picturesque Pocono Mountains. While the name "Tanglwood Resorts" suggests a unified experience, it's important for potential guests to understand that it operates primarily as a vacation ownership property (timeshare), with units also available for rental. This influences the types of accommodations, services, and overall experience guests can anticipate. For direct inquiries, the resort can be reached via phone at (570) 226-6161 or mobile at +1 570-226-6161.
Tanglwood Resorts is situated in Hawley, PA, a prime location within the scenic Pocono Mountains region. The area is renowned for its natural beauty, particularly its proximity to Lake Wallenpaupack. One review specifically highlights "the view of the lake across the street," indicating that many units or parts of the resort offer desirable lake views. Another review enthusiastically recommends visiting, stating, "The whole region is absolutely stunning!" This underscores the significant appeal of the resort's natural surroundings, which offer a tranquil backdrop for relaxation and a wide array of outdoor activities throughout the year.
The environment is characterized by wooded areas, providing a sense of seclusion and connection with nature, which is typical of Poconos resorts. While the outdoor environment is generally praised, it's crucial to note that individual units within the resort might vary. One review specifically mentions "holes in screens to sliding door" and "could not keep the sliding glass doors open as the mosquitos were coming in," suggesting that the immediate environment around some accommodations might have maintenance issues that affect outdoor comfort. However, the general impression is that the resort is set within a beautiful natural landscape, conducive to a relaxing getaway.
The mention of it being a "fabulous ski resort" (though geographically inaccurate for the main ski slopes themselves, as Tanglwood is primarily a lakeside resort, it implies access to nearby ski areas like Tanglwood Ski Area which was formerly operational near the resort, or Big Bear at Masthope Mountain, and the general winter sports appeal of the Poconos) suggests its versatility as a year-round destination. The main complex itself is located off PA-507, making it accessible while still offering a sense of a peaceful retreat.
Tanglwood Resorts offers a comprehensive set of services and amenities typical of a vacation ownership property, aimed at providing a full recreational experience. However, the consistency and convenience of these services can be a point of varied guest experience.
Recreational Facilities: A major draw of Tanglwood Resorts is its extensive recreational offerings. Reviews highlight "Indoor pool and facilities were beautiful." The resort complex also includes an "outdoor pool" (though its usage might be seasonal or dependent on specific unit locations), a "rec room" (game room), a "fitness center," and likely various outdoor sports courts. These facilities are designed to keep guests engaged and active throughout their stay. However, a significant point of concern raised by a reviewer is that the "Indoor pool and facilities were beautiful, but unfortunately were at another facility which was about a 20 min. drive-one way- up a mountain." This indicates that not all amenities are centrally located or easily accessible from every unit, requiring guests to drive to utilize certain facilities.
Dining: The resort has an "on site, restaurant/lounge." However, a critical review notes that it is "only open on days of shows/events." This limitation means that guests cannot rely on daily on-site dining for all meals, which can be inconvenient. This necessitates guests to plan for meals either by utilizing in-room kitchen facilities or exploring dining options in the broader Hawley area.
Guest Support: While not explicitly detailed, as a resort with multiple units, there would be a central reception or guest services desk to handle check-ins, check-outs, and general inquiries. However, the need for a guest to "go to local store and get a Renuzit" to combat a musty smell in their room suggests that immediate in-room service for minor issues might not always be prompt or sufficient.
Room Amenities: Units often include features like kitchens or kitchenettes, and basic amenities. However, the specific review for Room 107 highlights significant deficiencies: "very outdated," "smelled musty," "shower head plastic," "holes in screens to sliding door," "furniture is very uncomfortable to sit in, old and outdated," and a "lumpy bed, springs sticking into our backs, looked like it was 20 years old." This indicates a wide variance in the condition and comfort of individual units within the resort, suggesting that some units are in dire need of renovation.
Connectivity: As a modern resort, it would typically offer Wi-Fi access (though not explicitly mentioned in the reviews provided, it's a standard expectation). Units would also generally include television.
Tanglwood Resorts, while offering a comprehensive resort experience, has features that warrant careful consideration due to reported inconsistencies:
Vacation Ownership/Condo Style Units: The primary feature is that accommodations are typically condo-style units, often privately owned or managed as vacation rentals. This means units usually have more space than traditional hotel rooms, potentially including separate living areas and kitchen facilities, ideal for longer stays and families.
Extensive Recreational Facilities (Centralized): The resort boasts a range of recreational amenities including indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, and a game room. These are strong features for a family-oriented vacation. However, the notable drawback is that some of these "beautiful" facilities, particularly the indoor pool, might be located "at another facility which was about a 20 min. drive" from the main accommodation area, which can be inconvenient for guests.
Lake Wallenpaupack Proximity: The resort's location near Lake Wallenpaupack is a significant asset, offering "the view of the lake across the street" and access to various water-based activities. This is a major draw for guests who enjoy fishing, boating, or simply appreciating lake views.
Restaurant/Lounge (Limited Hours): The presence of an on-site restaurant/lounge is a convenience, but its limited operating hours (only during shows/events) means it's not a reliable daily dining option. This forces guests to either cook in their units or seek external dining.
Varied Unit Condition: This is perhaps the most critical feature. The review of Room 107 indicates a significant disparity in unit quality, with some units being "very outdated," "musty," and having uncomfortable, old furniture and beds. This suggests that while some areas or renovated units might be pleasant, others might fall short of modern comfort standards. Prospective guests should inquire about the specific condition and renovation status of their assigned unit.
Family-Friendly Potential: With the condo-style units and various recreational amenities, Tanglwood Resorts has the potential to be a strong family-friendly destination, offering activities and space for all ages.
For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me," Tanglwood Resorts would likely be promoted as a comprehensive Poconos vacation destination, emphasizing its family-friendly atmosphere, extensive recreational facilities, and access to Lake Wallenpaupack. Promotional materials would highlight the "stunning region" and the variety of activities available. The concept of "play, eat, swim, and enjoy" encapsulates its intended offerings.
However, it is vital for potential guests to be aware of the inconsistencies highlighted in customer reviews. The enthusiastic endorsement of "fabulous ski resort" and "absolutely stunning region" contrasts sharply with the detailed negative review of Room 107. This suggests that guest experiences can vary significantly depending on the specific unit assigned and their expectations regarding resort services.
Prospective guests should:
Inquire About Unit Condition: If possible, request information about the renovation status or specific unit details before booking. This is crucial to avoid outdated and uncomfortable accommodations.
Understand Amenity Locations: Be aware that not all facilities, such as the indoor pool, might be within easy walking distance and may require driving.
Plan for Dining: Do not solely rely on the on-site restaurant for daily meals, especially if staying outside of event days. Plan to utilize in-room kitchens or explore local dining in Hawley.
Consider Timeshare Aspect: As a vacation ownership property, there might be presentations or a different operational style compared to a standard hotel. However, for those seeking a self-sufficient condo-style stay with access to resort amenities, it can be a good value.
Despite the mixed reviews, Tanglwood Resorts has the potential to offer an enjoyable Poconos getaway for guests who are well-informed about its structure and manage their expectations regarding the condition of specific units and the availability of all services. Its location and extensive recreational facilities remain strong draws for a family or group vacation in the beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack area.

May 19, 2025 · Paula ButlerThis was a fabulous ski resort. The trails were situated around Lake Wallenpaupack if you head up near Greentown, PA. I would highly recommend visiting! The whole region is absolutely stunning!
May 17, 2025 · Tiffany Budert-WaltzWe stayed in a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit. The unit was well-designed, with ample space & privacy. The kitchen had burn marks on the range & counters that made the place feel a bit worn. The Living Room TV was much too small for its distance from the couch. Everything else was fine.
Oct 15, 2024 · James HundtI got this room through a vacation voucher. My week here was very very nice. The location is perfect. You are right in the middle of great food and sights. However, the rooms are dated. You are responsible for the cleaning in the room. The resort itself doesn't have much, small pool onsite and a rec room, small tables and grills .... But they are partnered with a club or so to have an indoor pool and fitness center. This is 15 minutes and a tax bracket away. Honestly, the indoor pool makes this place worth it. I know I don't come from much but it was nice to get in perspective how poor I actually am. Other than that I think this place is quite nice. I had a great time with my family. But again I got this through a vacation voucher. And it doesn't take much to please me. A roof over my head and good AC in a nice place where you can just walk up to a great view of the lake was just great for me. The food nearby is all so good. It depends on how you like your room. You will have to do some cleaning.
Jun 23, 2024 · Eithiana (Eithiana)We would have preferred to have been next to the other people we were with. The refrigerator in both units leaked and leaked into food we had stored in the refrigerators. We were told there was good fishing across the road from us at wallpaupack lake, there was no place to fish there due to boats in and out and we were told we couldn't fish from the docks. We found a couple places to fish, but had to travel to get to them. The pool was great.
