I needed to come to Louisville for work. Being that the weekend before, was Veterans Day weekend, I took the time to stay a couple days ahead of my work trip. The house was beautiful and after a tiny logistical snack the trip went off without a hitch. It is close to everything downtown and the start of the bourbon trail. The kitchen is the most amazing kitchen I have ever used! Keep in mind this is not a B&B (no staff on site and no breakfast served). My room was secure while I know other guests were in the house, we never crossed paths. I would stay here again and shared recommendations with the managers of items that would make stays a bit more comfortable. (Bring your own hair dryer and iron/ironing board)

The Butcher Rose Introduce

For those seeking a truly distinctive lodging experience in Louisville, Kentucky, The Butcher Rose offers a captivating alternative to traditional hotels. Categorized under "Hotels Near Of Me," this historic mansion provides an immersive stay in the vibrant Butchertown neighborhood, blending the charm of a bygone era with modern comforts. It's an ideal choice for travelers looking for something beyond the ordinary, whether for a leisurely getaway, a business trip with a touch of elegance, or a special group event.

Environment and Location

The Butcher Rose is nestled at 1607 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206, USA, placing it in the heart of the historic Butchertown district. This neighborhood is known for its blend of old-world charm and contemporary vibrancy. Frankfort Avenue itself is a lively street dotted with a plethora of local restaurants, charming cafes, unique shops, and art galleries, all within easy walking distance. This allows guests to truly experience Louisville's local culture and culinary scene without needing to venture far.

The property is a historically significant mansion, with some sources indicating it was built in the 1790s, making it one of the oldest houses in Louisville. It sits on a prominent hill, exuding a timeless elegance. The owners have meticulously restored and designed the interior to honor its historic character while incorporating fresh, modern design elements. This creates a visually stunning environment, often described by guests as "gorgeous" and "beautifully kept." The emphasis is on preserving the original charm, evident in features like creaking original hardwood floors, fireplaces, and log walls. Despite its historic nature, it offers a serene and quiet retreat from the city bustle, while still being conveniently close to downtown attractions, including the start of the Bourbon Trail, NuLu, the KFC Yum! Center, and Waterfront Park. The property also boasts a spacious lot for parking cars or trucks, providing convenience for guests who wish to explore the wider city.

Services and Amenities

The Butcher Rose operates as a unique accommodation, distinct from a traditional Bed & Breakfast. As noted by a guest, it is not a B&B, meaning there is no staff on site and no breakfast served by the hosts. Instead, it offers a self-check-in experience, providing guests with private access to the property. This setup provides a sense of privacy and independence, making it feel like a "home away from home."

While breakfast is not served by staff, some listings indicate "breakfast included" as an amenity, which may refer to self-service options or inclusions within the rental rate. The kitchen is a standout feature, with one guest describing it as "the most amazing kitchen I have ever used," suggesting it is fully equipped and suitable for cooking. Each of the six unique rooms comes with its own private bathroom, featuring individual toiletries, soft white towels, and hot showers. All bedrooms are located on the second and third floors and are accessible only by stairs, and the entryway includes four steps to the parlor. This is an important consideration for guests with mobility concerns, as the historic nature of the property means accessibility alterations would impact its historical significance.

Modern amenities include wireless broadband internet access throughout the property. Rooms have comfortable beds with crisp white sheets and lovingly chosen furniture and art. While one guest mentioned needing to bring their own hairdryer and iron/ironing board, some listings for individual rooms indicate these amenities are provided. Guests are encouraged to respect the stunning home, and the owners are described as "very sweet and responsive," ensuring a smooth and pleasant stay.

For events, The Butcher Rose can be rented as an entire home, making it suitable for family reunions, weekend getaways, wedding parties, bridal party accommodations, or even bridal and newlywed suites. Guests can inquire directly about rental information for special occasions.

Features of the Property

The Butcher Rose truly stands out for its unique blend of historic charm and thoughtful design. Built in the 1700s, it embodies the spirit of Kentucky. The property offers six distinct bedrooms, each named and designed with unique character. Examples include "Yoko" with a king bed and ensuite bathroom, "Emmy Lou" with a full bed and ensuite bathroom, "Aretha" with a king bed and ensuite bathroom, and "Janis" with a queen bed and ensuite bathroom. The rooms feature creaking original hardwood floors, a testament to the home's age and character.

Beyond the individual rooms, the communal spaces are designed to enhance the guest experience. There's a living room and a dining area, providing ample space for relaxation and gathering. A bar located in the basement, accessible from both inside and outside, serves as a decorative lounge area for conversations, though no alcohol is provided by the property. The overall design incorporates antique lighting, lime wash paint for texture and warmth, and mural-inspired wallpaper that nods to the home's Colonial roots. The owners have also added personal touches, such as a display of old horse ribbons, paying tribute to Kentucky life.

The focus on creating a memorable and aesthetically pleasing environment is a key feature, attracting guests who appreciate attention to detail and a curated experience. The security of individual rooms is also noted, ensuring guests feel safe even when other guests are in the house. The spacious parking lot is a practical advantage, especially for guests traveling with vehicles.

Promotional Information

As a unique rental property often listed on platforms like Airbnb, The Butcher Rose's promotional information revolves around its distinct charm and suitability for various types of stays. It is highlighted as a "Timeless & Historic Mansion" perfect for events like the Kentucky Derby. Guests are often drawn to its "gorgeous" interiors and its prime location on Frankfort Avenue, offering walkability to numerous local attractions. The property often receives high ratings for its exceptional check-in experience and proximity to great restaurants.

While it does not participate in traditional hotel loyalty programs, its appeal lies in providing a memorable, one-of-a-kind stay. Promotional efforts often emphasize its historical significance, unique design, and the ability to rent the entire home for larger groups or special occasions. Potential guests are encouraged to contact the owners directly for rental information for events. Given its popularity and unique offering, booking in advance, especially during peak seasons like the Kentucky Derby, is highly recommended. This may be the most gorgeous place I’ve ever stayed in my life. It is such a wonderful kept secret in Louisville, but for the sake of the owners, I hope it gets more notice soon. It deserves it! If I ever need a place to stay in Louisville, I will be looking here again. It’s a nice location on Frankfort Ave. you can walk to a number of restaurants, cafes, and shops. But they also have a spacious lot to park a car or truck to venture out to the rest of the city. The owners are very sweet and responsive. All they ask is that you respect the absolutely stunning home, as anyone should. It’s a joy to stay at the Butcher Rose.

We hosted an intimate wedding at the Butcher Rose and it was an absolute dream! We booked the house for the weekend and it was so beautiful and cozy. Shelby is so easy to work with and helped us coordinate the flow of the day, she worked with our vendors, and answered all our questions as they came up. The Butcher Rose will always be a special place to us, can't recommend a stay or an event there highly enough!

I’m hesitant to leave this review because this place feels like the best kept secret!! .. But I’ll be generous and share because it is so amazing. Husband and I visited for our anniversary weekend. This place may not be for everyone - not good accessibility, no valet, no room service, no front desk, it’s an old house so the floors creak - if any of that bothers you I’d recommend you go elsewhere. It’s a very help-yourself/choose-your-own adventure spot/ respect it and leave it things the way you found them place and that is what we LOVED about it!! Help yourself to all the food and snacks in the kitchen, full bar, and amazing other help yourself amenities. Who needs room service when you can sneak down to the quiet kitchen and grab food or drinks yourself! Staff is on-site if you need anything and give you space if you don’t. Since this is also a social club/coworking space there is pretty much anything you could possibly need in that kitchen. In the most wonderful way, it feels like you are visiting someone’s home, but since there are only a couple rooms it’s so quiet (at least on the weekends when people aren’t working there!) and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves even though there were a couple other guests. The natural light coming in through the windows at breakfast was magical, the carefully thought out sitting nooks, the attention to detail for each and everything here is amazing. It feels like a homey museum that I never want to leave! Great proximity to restaurants and shops too. Just generally wonderful - highly recommend this special spot for staying, if you’re local consider joining the membership and make this your home away from home (I’m so jealous!), or have the most amazing intimate wedding here!

Charming and relaxing environment in a perfect location. Close to the waterfront and walkable to restaurants. We enjoyed evenings on the patio and watched fireworks from the upstairs veranda. Very comfortable beds, great hot water and very clean. Staff was friendly and welcomed us with great snacks, drinks and vibes. We will definitely return next time we’re in Louisville.
