My husband and I recently stayed at the Grande Hotel in Maine, a charming establishment located in a picturesque area. We were looking forward to a romantic and peaceful getaway, and the hotel's location, charm, and room did not disappoint. However, our experience took a significant turn for the worse overnight. Unfortunately, the restaurant below our room played deafening music long after closing hours, likely during their cleanup. The walls in our room vibrated, making it impossible for us to relax. After waiting two hours, my husband went downstairs to request that they lower the volume. He was confronted inappropriately by an agitated kitchen staff member, making us feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Adding to our distress, the front desk was completely unstaffed when we called for assistance. No one was there to address our concerns about the noise. Later, the noise from guests in the room behind us escalated into a full-blown party. The walls were so thin that it felt like the party was happening in our bedroom. We tried to drown out the disturbance by turning up the TV, but it was futile. Once again, there was no staff available to help resolve the situation. We had hoped to find someone to ask them to lower the volume, especially considering the late hour. When we checked out the following morning and shared our eventful experience with the front desk staff, they mentioned they needed to consult with the kitchen before addressing our complaints. This collaboration seemed unnecessary and frustrating because it delayed the resolution of our issue. Ultimately, they offered to remove the tax from our bill as compensation—$20—which felt hysterical given the disruption we experienced. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend the Grande Hotel. It did not feel like a proper hotel. We were disappointed by the limited availability of staff, the lack of security during late hours, and the noise issues we encountered. If you are thinking about a peaceful getaway, consider exploring other options.

The hotel is situated in Lower Village, Kennebunk, offering a prime, in-town location with sweeping views of the Kennebunk River and bustling Dock Square. However, the hotel's common areas and exterior spaces are designed to provide a serene backdrop for relaxation. The presence of an on-site art gallery, Art Hill Gallery, showcases works from over 40 local artists year-round, adding a cultural dimension to the environment.

This provides guests with a convenient option for delicious meals, especially in the evenings. The hotel also features an on-site art gallery, Art Hill Gallery, which is a rare and appealing amenity, allowing guests to immerse themselves in local art during their stay. While some guest reviews mention issues with thin walls and noise disturbances from the restaurant or other guests, particularly late at night, the hotel provides white noise machines in rooms to help mitigate this. The availability of private balconies and verandas in select rooms, such as the Chase Hill Suites, further enhances the guest experience, offering private outdoor spaces with views.
The Grand Hotel is part of the Kennebunkport Resort Collection, which often offers various promotions. For instance, a "Plan Ahead Offer" provides discounts (15-20% off) for bookings made 21, 60, or 90+ days in advance, encouraging early reservations. This offer requires a full, non-refundable deposit. The hotel also lists specific cancellation policies for standard bookings and Christmas Prelude stays, indicating a structured approach to reservations. While pets are not allowed at The Grand Hotel, their sister properties within the Kennebunkport Resort Collection (such as The Lodge on the Cove, the Ivy Cottage at Cape Arundel Inn & Resort, and Yachtsman Hotel and Marina Club) are dog-friendly, providing alternatives for guests traveling with pets.
Reviews indicate that guests appreciate the hotel's prime location, its elegant and clean rooms, and the overall charm of the establishment. While the recent review highlighted significant concerns regarding noise, limited late-night staff availability, and the perceived inadequacy of compensation, other reviews suggest a generally "quiet" hotel with "no issues" experienced by some guests. This suggests that while there may be inconsistencies, the hotel generally aims to provide a pleasant stay. The pricing, which can range from approximately $237 to $373 per night for standard rooms and suites, reflects its upscale positioning in the Kennebunkport area. For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a focus on a chic design and immediate access to downtown Kennebunkport, The Grand Hotel remains a notable option, particularly for those who plan to utilize its central location and enjoy its on-site dining and art gallery.

Dec 10, 2024 · dawn christensenWe chose this hotel for its proximity to Dock Square. Location is perfect if you want to be walking distance from all the shops and restaurants in town. Room was lovely and the hotel was very quiet. A very short drive (or a good walk) to the beach and Parsons Way. We had zero issues and really enjoyed the stay. I gave 4 stars for the room only because the hanging and dresser space was realllly tiny, no big deal for us as it was a short trip but might be tough if staying longer. We would come back!
Jun 12, 2024 · D'Laine PulliamNot So Grand - For all practical purposes, this is not a hotel. There’s no lobby, no luggage assistance, limited front desk staffing and no place inside to eat your continental breakfast (except for your room). We arrived early (1:30 PM) for our 3:00 check-in. We didn’t expect our room to be ready, we just wanted to store our luggage. There was no one at the front desk. We waited about 15 minutes and no one returned, so we texted the number on the desk sign. We never received a response. The woman working the gallery, called their designated number and did not get an answer either. We left our luggage in the car. This location likes to operate on a virtual check-in model and the only location with full-time front desk staffing is a sister location about a 1/4 mile away. If you lose a key, need luggage assistance or other front desk services, you may be disappointed, particularly in the evening or overnight. You cannot enter the hotel after hours without your key. The room was also disappointing. We booked a “cozy king” for north of $500/night. And it was cozy….The room had a bed, a very small armoire and a small table. There was not a chair or any other place to sit in the room. So, we couldn’t eat our continental breakfast downstairs or in our room. Pretty frustrating. There are some outside tables, but it was raining so that doesn’t work. Note, their website shows a chair in the room. There is not a service elevator so the staff shares the main elevator. I tried to return the luggage trolley we used to the main floor. I pressed the elevator button and waited for an extended amount of time. I could hear noise from the floor below and could tell the elevator was being held there. When it finally did arrive, it was full of trash and laundry to the point where I could not even get on the elevator, let alone fit a luggage trolley. I had to wait while it went downstairs and, was held again, while it was unloaded. When I finally got the elevator and returned to the main floor, all the trash and laundry was sitting in the entrance area there. I could not even get the trolley back where it belonged. The staff seemed unaware. The Grand Hotel has a great location and outwardly appears very nice. But if you are looking for a full service hotel, this is not it, particularly for the price point.
Aug 13, 2024 · Robert JarrettWe recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Kennebunkport and were pleased. It is odd that there isn’t anyone at the front desk. We did have to go to their ‘sister property’ to get our keys, which was easy enough but they should probably tell guests before arrival that this is the procedure and that there is no one on site. Our room was beautiful and very spacious. We had a 2nd floor king room with a balcony, there was a mini fridge in the room. The bathroom is lovely, the heated floor is so nice but the bathroom lighting is a little dim. The continental breakfast was very nice with a lot of options (bagels, cereal, yogurt, fruit). The location of the hotel is great, all restaurants and shops are walkable. We would definitely stay at this property again.
Oct 31, 2023 · Jennifer WentrobleThe staff were fantastic, check in was smooth and some of the best hotel service I have received in recent memory. We were supposed to be staying at a sister property but we're moved due to a pending storm surge concern and the process could not have been smoother, and the staff could not have been more welcoming and professional. The only thing I wished for was a mini fridge in the room (manager told me later on they plan to add them soon), and possibly a bit bigger continental breakfast if we were staying more than just the 2 nights. I would also suggest adding instructions to the check in emails letting folks know to move the white cones in one of the hotel dedicated parking spots to park as it wasn't immediately clear at first arrival, but the dedicated parking meant we always had parking available even when returning late at night. This and Kennebunkport inn are perfectly located to all the shopping, main dining, bars, etc. I feel the price paid per night was fair for the hotel given its location, and I appreciate the fantastic customer service and going above and beyond to recognize our anniversary and calling our restaurant ahead of time to let them know as well.
