I stayed one night at this property and was relieved it was only for one night. Finding the lobby was a challenge due to minimal signage and multiple buildings on the grounds, which made navigating the property confusing. While check-in itself went smoothly, parking was another issue—be prepared for a long walk to your room, as others have also noted. The hotel room was disappointing and did not resemble the photos shown online. Upon entering, we were met with an overpowering chemical odor from cleaning products, which lingered throughout our stay. The bathroom was outdated, with the sink located outside the toilet and shower area. There was no hand soap at the sink, so we had to use the bar soap from the shower. The room had two beds, both of which were uncomfortably firm and covered with mismatched, worn bedding. We also found hair in one of the beds, which was unsettling. The game room was stifling—hot and humid to the point of being unusable, even though the outdoor temperature was only around 70°F. The outdoor pool was closed because the emergency phone wasn’t working, and we chose not to use the indoor pool. While I had modest expectations based on prior reviews, the actual experience fell below even those. I would not recommend this property.

Jun 19, 2025 · Jill MarshallWhile staying we learned that his hotel is under foreclosure...and that is apparent. We will never stay here again under the current management. I actually can't believe this is part of a hotel group. The rooms have been updated but it's mostly a facade -- with the way the hotel cares for the rooms, I wouldn't dare return in a year or two. Bedding was falling off the mattress and wrinkled, only given three towels, found food under the beds and the smell from the cleaning supplies they use is on another level -- burning eyes level -- we had to open the window to air out the room for hours and it still lingered (even on our clothes since we have returned). They never serviced the room (we were there for 3 nights). Our room keys had to be replaced four times. There is no ice. There is no elevator. The stairs are so darkly lit I can't believe they haven't been sued for someone tripping. The hallways were covered in the same waffle cone crumbs the entire time we were there. Things were broken and falling apart everywhere, trash cans overflowing. This property - the exterior / pool area / lakefront - is stunningly beautiful...it's such a shame they are letting it fall apart. We met a few condo owners (in the larger buildings overlooking the lake) and they were lovely.
Jul 29, 2025 · Sarah BurrowsStayed there for road America vintage car races. Location was perfect. Staph was friendly an helpful. My complaints, finding the lobby is problematic, add having roads blocked off. Also the room didn't have maid service to make the bed daily. That is annoying as it gets.
Jul 20, 2025 · jack kramerI would NEVER stay here again. I called to report them to Choice Hotels. On Sunday morning at 8:30am, the fire alarm went off. I exited the hotel and made my way to the front of the hotel. I found many other hotel guests wandering around outside. At the front desk there was no one there. The lights were off and there was just a sign saying Amber had stepped away with a phone number. Not knowing what else to do, I called the number and obviously woke her up. She mumbled that she would be there in a few minutes. The fire alarm was still going off so I called 911 to report it. After a few minutes the fire department arrived and I let them know I had called and what was going on. Amber arrived after the fire department in bare feet. After awhile she told us it was a false alarm so we went to pack up to leave. When we went to check out the office was locked and dark. Amber had obviously gone back home! What if this had been a true emergency/fire??? How can a hotel/resort leave the property completely unattended?! This is a huge safety concern. Don't stay here!!!!
May 20, 2025 · Susan MuenterWhere do I start. The room smelled. Toilet was dirty. No lightbulbs in some lamps. Only 2 coffees and creamer curdled. Hallways are dark and not clean. The first night we ran into the manager who was so drunk, the next day she didn’t remember seeing or talking to us. Asked for extra towels to be told they would be delivered to our room but never were. Parking is aweful. And the worst part, no ice or bottled water! Ice maker broke in December and we stayed this June. We would walk into the lobby looking for an employee and no one was ever there but the place is wide open. I will never stay there again. Choice Hotels should really look at this place before they have their name associated with it. I was there many times when it was Victorian Village and it was NOT like this. I would stay away from this place! 0 stars for over $250 a night!
