I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. While it is in a great location, the customer service ruins the appeal. Our key card stopped working the second day of our stay. We went to the front desk to fix the issue to find no one working there. No one had been working for hours and it was 1 pm. We couldn’t find anyone in the building to help us. We called the number given to us on the front desk and neither of them answered our calls. We had to end our trip early because we had been locked out of our room for so long and were worried with the new key card we finally received that we would be locked out again. There’s also many hidden fees that we received upon staying which are not included in the listing so be prepared to pay twice as much as what you thought you were paying.
For residents of Illinois seeking a vibrant and exciting place to stay in Chicago, The Wheelhouse Hotel presents a unique option. Located in the electric Wrigleyville neighborhood, this hotel is a prime destination for those looking to be at the center of the action. Its theme is heavily inspired by its proximity to Wrigley Field, making it a perfect spot for baseball fans or anyone who wants to experience the energy of a Cubs game. The hotel is situated in a bustling area known for its nightlife, dining, and entertainment, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. While it offers a distinct, clean, and modern atmosphere, it is important for guests to be aware of the operational model, which may differ from a traditional hotel experience. The hotel is often associated with the name "The Chicago Hotel Collection - Wrigleyville" on various booking platforms, a detail worth noting for those conducting research.
The hotel aims to provide a well-designed and stylish stay. Rooms are described as clean and modern, with features such as smart TVs and a pleasant aesthetic. However, based on some public reviews, the operational side of the hotel may present challenges for some guests. Reviews highlight difficulties with key card access and customer service, with guests having trouble reaching staff in a timely manner. It’s also noted that there are additional charges, such as an "amenity fee," that may not be included in the initial booking price. For an Illinois local planning a trip, understanding these aspects in advance is key to setting the right expectations. The hotel's appeal lies in its location and modern rooms, but guests should be prepared for a more self-service, app-based approach to hospitality.
Despite some of the operational challenges, the hotel's undeniable appeal is its location. It's a place to stay when you want to fully immerse yourself in the Wrigleyville experience, where the energy of the neighborhood is part of the package. It's a hotel that caters to a specific type of traveler: one who is independent, tech-savvy, and prioritizes being in a prime location. For locals, this could be the perfect spot for a quick getaway to see a Cubs game, a concert at a nearby venue, or just to explore the famous Wrigleyville scene without a long commute home.
While a few reviews express a sense of being "scammed" due to unexpected fees and a lack of a traditional front desk, many others highlight the cleanliness and excellent location. It’s a hotel that is best approached with a clear understanding of what it is and isn't. It's a modern, tech-forward lodging option in an incredible location, but it may not offer the round-the-clock, in-person service that some guests expect from a conventional hotel.

The area is also famous for its bars, restaurants, music venues, and vibrant street life, particularly on game days.
The hotel's location is highly accessible via public transportation, which is a major advantage for Illinois residents traveling to the city. Jan 02, 2024 · Bailey FNobody works here, in order to get your key or even into the lobby, you have to spend an hour on your phone, standing outside in the cold with your bags, filling out forms, texting a service number who is slow to respond. And there is a surprise charge for “amenity fees” that totaled over $80 otherwise they won’t give you the key card. I felt like I got scammed/stolen from. Room itself was clean but felt like a cheap air bnb. No refridgerator. Would never stay here again. The only positive I have to say is it’s in a nice location.
Mar 25, 2024 · Jack SmithWon't see me here again. I booked through a work vendor so I must have missed the hour long check-in process instructions email which consists of sending a picture of your face and your ID, etc. to a phone number listed on the door. Once accepted, you get a code so you can go back outside and unlock a lockbox that has the keys to the main door and your room. BUT, the best part is that it takes at least 10 tries before they accept it. The second best part is that it's all through text, to a person (appears automated at first, but then...), who is not very responsive and seems overwhelmed in responding to texts, so you might get a snide remark if you get a little heated and question this process. Luckily, the couple who was also struggling to 'check in' let me inside to do this whole thing inside, otherwise I'd be standing in the rain the entire 30+ minutes it took. Also, there's no staff on site and clearly, anyone standing around the front door can get in as I did. Lastly, the fees. The guest amenity fee tops out at $49.99 + tax (read the website, it's a bunch of fluff that other hotels consider standard). There is a Reservation Fee, and a Reservation Processing Recovery fee. My $125 room ended up costing $212.
Nov 21, 2023 · Vikas PSA great smaller hotel. Steps away from Wrigley Field and all that comes with it. The aesthetics are on point! No one tells you about the roof top area which is absolutely breathtaking! We read bad reviews about not being able to get back into the hotel but we tried our cards before we left and had no problem later that night even after a few beers. 😝 Only con is there is no parking unless you pay a hefty price for event parking or a garage or luckily find street parking. We will most definitely stay again!
Jun 25, 2023 · Caroline BrownThe room was beautiful. Clean lines perfectly chosen accents and furnishings. However, easy to hear the people above you and in the hallway. The shower was very cool, but the flooring was leveled that the shower was higher than the bathroom floor. So some water escaped the shower and got my suitcase/bag all wet since it was under the sink. I noticed the floor levels the night before but stupidly didn't plan for it when I showered the next more. Alas... Was surprised there wasn't free coffee, but I stopped by a local shop instead. Would recommend. It was so cool looking inside. Stood in the doorway and admired a few minutes when we got in.
