Troutbeck is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. Set against the beautiful backdrop of upstate New York, it’s refined, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed — a perfect escape from the pace of everyday life. We returned this year after a wonderful stay last year, and once again, the experience was outstanding. A huge part of what makes Troutbeck so memorable is the people, and we want to especially recognize Julio, whose warmth, attentiveness, and grace elevated every moment of our stay. His presence is a true gift to the property. We’re also incredibly grateful to the rest of the team — Alicia, Spencer, Ryan, Stefan, Parker, David, Ian, Jennifer, Rachel, Matt, Elina and others — who all went above and beyond at every turn. Every interaction felt thoughtful and kind, and their dedication to making guests feel at home is something you don’t find everywhere. The food deserves special mention — the farm-to-table menu is consistently exceptional. Every meal is fresh, seasonal, and beautifully prepared, with ingredients that showcase the region and a kitchen that clearly cares about quality and craft. Dining at Troutbeck is an experience in itself. The property is stunning, with just the right blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Whether you’re relaxing by the fireplace, walking the grounds, or enjoying a quiet meal, Troutbeck has a calm, restorative energy that keeps drawing us back.

I recently stayed at Troutbeck. I had an amazing time! We were greeted by Julio at the front desk and his warm smile and demeanor was wonderful. He made us all feel like we were at home. His attention to detail was above and beyond. He even remembered all of our names. Very impressive! The rooms, food and bar were just so wonderful. We will definitely be back!

This has become not only my personal go-to escape when I need to be steeped in creativity, coziness, and comfort food, but I have also hosted multiple retreats here for my company. The background of the Troutbeck centers on social justice and many famous authors and activists have stayed here: you can feel their energy on the grounds--it serves as a spark for good conversation and deep writing. The food is delicious (truly farm to table), the rooms impeccable (I love the rooms with a big bath tub), and the hospitality is unmatched. Julio often greets me at the front desk, and there couldn't be a warmer or more positive face to greet you when you check in. There are great walking trails a short drive away. I recommend this place time and time again!

Troutbeck is a hotel yes, but they also have a lovely restaurant. On Mondays, there is a prix fixe 3-course pasta main course meal. For the appetizers, everything is shared at the table. Each person chooses their own pasta main (3 at the table and all choose a different dish), but the dessert was shared at the end at least the week I was there. Food was fresh and being in the Hudson valley always super close to the farms.

Troutbeck may appear on instagram and in reviews to be a cozy, warm, getaway from the city. But fundamentally it is a corporate retreat and a wedding factory that is 30% overpriced. On a recent midweek stay, I was subject to exorbitant rates, average food, forgettable service, part of the hotel under construction, rusted bicycles that had not been maintained, charmless rooms reminiscent of a mid-ranged corporate hotel. During my stay, there was a corporate retreat taking over much of the common spaces so that I was faced with signs and flipcharts on the way to my room like i was walking through a conference. Besides the two cozy rooms on the main level of the manner house and it location, Troutbeck is devoid of the charm, luxury amenities and service commensurate to the price. I salute their marketing team for its effort to reinforce its ranking amongst much nicer hotels like the White Hart and Bedford Post Inn. I was utterly taken in by the scam. Shame on me.
