A phenomenal stay—this castle is an absolute gem you cannot miss. The staff were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond, even during my extremely late midnight check-in and next-morning checkout. Despite the warning of historic non-soundproof walls, my room was quiet—zero noise. The entire castle is a dream for photos; every corner oozes atmosphere and charm. History lovers: wander to visit the JFK room! The room itself? Impeccable. Packed with perks: endless free on-demand channels a Bluetooth speaker, Keurig with premium coffee. Small snacks and bottled water were quite a midnight welcome. The bed? Like sleeping on a cloud—I’ve never felt so cozy. And the shower? Strong pressure and perfect steaming hot water, plenty of towels provided. Flawlessly clean, stylishly decorated. 10/10—I’m already looking forward to booking my next stay.

Amsterdam Castle Introduce

Within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Amsterdam Castle offers an exceptionally unique and highly praised lodging experience, setting it apart from conventional hotels. Located at 49 Florida Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010, USA, and reachable at (518) 212-2607 or +1 518-212-2607, this historic property, once a 19th-century armory, has been meticulously transformed into a boutique hotel that consistently delights guests with its charm, comfort, and outstanding service. It's truly a destination in itself, appealing to history lovers, families, and anyone seeking a memorable and immersive stay.

The environment of Amsterdam Castle is its most distinctive feature, offering a captivating blend of historic grandeur and modern comfort. Built in 1895 by Isaac G. Perry, the architect of the New York State Capitol, the building originally served as a National Guard Armory. Its castellated Late Victorian architectural style immediately transports guests to a different era, making them feel like they've stepped onto a "movie set" or into a European castle. Despite its historic nature and robust 18-inch brick walls, the interior has undergone extensive, environmentally friendly renovations, utilizing low-VOC paint and repurposed wood, ensuring a fresh and inviting atmosphere. The castle's every corner "oozes atmosphere and charm," adorned with unique decor, paintings, antiques, and even bespoke suits of armor. Guests can wander through the various spaces, including what's described as a "phenomenal" Great Hall, discovering something new at every turn. The property sits on approximately 1.9 acres, offering breathtaking views, and while it's in Amsterdam, it provides a tranquil escape that feels far removed from urban hustle. Despite warnings of historic non-soundproof walls, guest reviews consistently praise the quietness of the rooms, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep. The overall ambiance is one of elegance, sophistication, and historical richness, providing an immersive experience rather than just a place to sleep.

The services at Amsterdam Castle are characterized by their personalized touch and a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. The staff are repeatedly lauded as "incredibly welcoming," "friendly," and going "above and beyond" to assist guests, even during extremely late check-ins and early check-outs. This level of attentiveness ensures that guests feel truly respected and cared for. While a full-service restaurant might not be consistently open (some reviews mention limited operating hours for food services), guests often note the provision of complimentary snacks and bottled water in the room upon arrival, a thoughtful welcome amenity. For connectivity, guests can enjoy free in-room WiFi with excellent speed (50+ Mbps), ensuring seamless internet access. Free self-parking is available on-site, a practical convenience, with additional free off-site parking nearby and street parking options. The hotel features a 24-hour front desk, providing constant support for guests. Daily housekeeping ensures that rooms remain "flawlessly clean" throughout the stay. For business needs, the castle offers 1200 square feet of conference space, including a banquet hall, making it suitable for events and gatherings. The building is equipped with an elevator and offers wheelchair-accessible parking and paths of travel, ensuring accessibility for guests with mobility needs. Other services include express check-out, secured bike storage, and bicycle rental opportunities in the area, catering to various leisure pursuits.

The features of Amsterdam Castle are designed to combine historic grandeur with modern comforts, ensuring an "impeccable" and cozy stay. The hotel offers 22 exquisitely designed rooms and suites across two levels, each uniquely decorated. Room types vary, including Deluxe King Suites, Superior Suites, Family Suites, and Deluxe Junior Suites, catering to different group sizes and preferences. Key in-room amenities, as consistently highlighted by guests, include:

  • Luxurious Beds: Guests describe sleeping on a "cloud," emphasizing the comfort and coziness of the beds, often with pillowtop mattresses and premium bedding.

  • High-Quality Showers: Rooms feature private bathrooms with "strong pressure and perfect steaming hot water," along with ample towels and complimentary toiletries.

  • Modern Entertainment: A 55-inch TV with cable channels and endless free on-demand channels, alongside a Bluetooth speaker, provides excellent entertainment options.

  • Convenient Refreshments: A Keurig coffee maker with premium coffee, a mini-fridge, and free bottled water are standard in all rooms, offering appreciated conveniences.

  • Historical Touches: Rooms are stylishly decorated, blending modern amenities with the castle's historic charm. Guests particularly enjoy discovering unique spaces like the "JFK room," which features memorabilia from John F. Kennedy's visits.

Despite being a historic building, the rooms are described as quiet, contributing to a restful experience. The "huge" and "spacious" nature of many rooms and suites is frequently mentioned, providing plenty of space for guests to relax. Accessibility features are thoughtfully integrated, with wheelchair-accessible rooms available. The property also has a terrace and a garden area, offering pleasant outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy the atmosphere.

In terms of promotional information, Amsterdam Castle benefits significantly from its unique proposition as a "castle" hotel, which makes it a standout choice for travelers looking for something beyond the ordinary. Its strong positive reviews, with an impressive overall rating of 9.1 out of 10 on various platforms (including 9.8 for cleanliness and 9.6 for staff and service), serve as a powerful testimonial and a key promotional tool. While it might not engage in the same type of large-scale chain promotions, direct booking through its website or by calling (518) 212-2607 is always an option, and guests can also find it listed on major online travel agencies like Expedia, Hotels.com, and Kayak. Reviews often mention a "very nice price" for the unique experience and amenities provided, suggesting good value for money, especially during off-season periods where "unbeatable deals" might be found. The hotel's appeal for "photography dreams" and its historical significance, including its status on the National Register of Historic Places, are strong draws. For those visiting the Capital Region, it provides convenient access to local attractions such as the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook, Riverlink Park, and the Walter Elwood Museum, as well as being a reasonable drive from bigger cities like Albany and Syracuse. The consistent praise for its cleanliness, comfort, and the exceptional warmth of the staff are major selling points that encourage repeat visits. Potential guests are always encouraged to contact the castle directly for the most current room rates, availability, and specific policies.

Where do I begin? Such a historic piece of history in the city of Amsterdam, with decor that made me feel like I was on a movie set. The room was really cozy, quiet and comfy. Price was very nice and the staff were very welcoming. 10/10 will be coming back in our travels!

Amsterdam Castle is our favorite getaway! It is the most unique hotel experience you may ever have! The entire castle is modeled after a real European Castle. The rooms are gorgeous, art filled sprawling suites with several attached rooms and plenty of storage. There is a really nice coffee maker, Mini fridge and a microwave. There is a king and twin sized beds in each room. The rooms a sparkling clean each time including the beautiful deep bathtub. It is fun to explore all areas of the knight filled castle, look in wonderment upon the historic European artifacts and paintings as well as a many artifacts and photos in the historic room in the upper level where Robert F. Kennedy kicked off his Presidential campaign in the planning room. There is an amazing restaurant you can walk to called Lanzi's Southside as well. It is always hopping and the food is consistently amazing. Very close by you can also explore a beautiful small park with an extensive walking bridge over the river that commemorates area history with gorgeous statues and beautiful art. The Amsterdam Castle is a MUST EXPERIENCE location that should be on EVERY person's bucket list. The owners of the Castle are sooo accommodating, and they love to tell you about their unique property and it's very special features which you could only find in Europe itself. The service, the accommodations, and the entire experience is the very top of the line! Once you have experienced all that the Amsterdam Castle and the area have to offer, You will want to stay at the castle whenever you are in the vicinity just like our family.! 👍🥰

This is a very beautiful hotel. Love the decor. Service was great. Price was very reasonable. Room was clean and quiet. Only issue we had was the bed was hard as a rock, like sleeping on the ground.

En route from Northern Michigan to Boston. We ran out of gas here (us, not the car). Looked on Google Maps for a place to stay and found this place. Maps is right again. Fun place to stay. Room was clean, and the bathroom was almost new. We were told it is a popular place for bicyclists who travel the Buffalo to Albany bike path along the Erie Canal . We'll be back. .
