When searching for "Hotels Near Me" in the Amsterdam, NY area, one option that may appear is the Knights Inn Amsterdam, located at 1351 NY-5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010, USA. This establishment is accessible via phone at (518) 842-5637 or mobile at +1 518-842-5637. To provide a comprehensive overview, it's important to consider both the general information available and the experiences shared by guests, as they offer a more complete picture for potential visitors looking for accommodation in the vicinity.
From an objective standpoint, the Knights Inn Amsterdam operates as a motel-style accommodation. Its location on NY-5S positions it along a state route, which can offer convenient access for travelers driving through the area. Typically, properties of this nature are designed to provide basic lodging for a range of guests, including those seeking an economical stay. The surrounding environment, being along a highway, would generally be characterized by other commercial properties, some residential areas, and the natural landscape of the Mohawk Valley region.
Regarding services and features, based on standard motel offerings and typical expectations for a "Hotels Near Me" search, Knights Inn properties generally aim to provide essential amenities. These often include guest rooms with beds, private bathrooms, and possibly a television. Some budget motels might offer amenities like air conditioning, heating, and basic linens. Historically, they have also provided parking for guests, a crucial feature for a location accessible primarily by vehicle. While promotional materials for such hotels often highlight convenient access and affordability, the specific services and features can vary significantly from one location to another, and also depending on the type of booking or arrangement. For instance, a cash customer might experience a different set of services or room types compared to someone placed by a social service agency.
A significant aspect of the Knights Inn Amsterdam's operation, as widely reported by customer reviews, is its role in providing temporary shelter for individuals and families through the Department of Social Services (DSS). This makes it a crucial resource for the homeless community, those escaping domestic violence, or individuals facing eviction in the Amsterdam area. In this respect, the hotel serves a vital community function, acting as a place of refuge for vulnerable populations. This specific function differentiates it from a typical tourist or business hotel, as it caters to a demographic with unique needs and circumstances.
However, it is crucial to present an objective view that incorporates direct customer feedback, which offers a stark contrast to typical hotel promotional descriptions. Multiple reviews highlight severe concerns regarding the hotel's environment and the condition of rooms, particularly those allocated to DSS clients. Recurring themes in customer complaints include significant pest infestations, specifically cockroaches, being present in communal areas and within rooms. Accounts describe rooms as being far from clean, with issues such as unpleasant odors, layers of dust, and debris from damaged ceilings. The cleanliness of linens and overall room hygiene are repeatedly questioned, with guests reporting instances of dirty sheets and an apparent lack of regular housekeeping services. Some reviews even suggest that guests have had to undertake cleaning of their own rooms to achieve a minimal level of cleanliness.
Further concerns are raised about the basic amenities provided, or rather, the lack thereof, especially for DSS-placed clients. Reports indicate that these rooms may lack standard motel features such as in-room phones and microwaves. The condition of bathroom facilities is also a point of contention, with descriptions of peeling finishes on tubs and showers, leading to debris during bathing. The absence of routine services like garbage pickup, continental breakfast, and even consistent provision of essential items like toilet paper and clean towels is frequently mentioned. While Wi-Fi is reportedly available, its reach throughout the entire property is described as inconsistent.
Security is another major concern highlighted by guests. Reviews describe the presence of individuals engaging in drug use, drug dealing, and prostitution on the premises. This creates an environment where guests feel unsafe, with advice given to lock vehicles and doors and to avoid leaving personal belongings unattended due to theft. The state of door locks is also criticized, with descriptions of cheap, inadequate security mechanisms. The general atmosphere is portrayed as one with frequent late-night traffic, loud music, and a noticeable presence of suspicious individuals, contributing to an overall feeling of insecurity and discomfort for residents.
It is important to note that some reviews suggest a disparity in room quality between cash-paying customers and those placed by DSS, with the latter reportedly being allocated rooms in significantly worse condition. This raises questions about equitable service delivery, despite the fact that the hotel receives payment for all occupants. This distinction is a critical piece of information for anyone considering the Knights Inn Amsterdam, whether through a "Hotels Near Me" search or through a social services placement.
In summary, while the Knights Inn Amsterdam serves a critical function in providing shelter for vulnerable individuals and families in the Amsterdam, NY area, potential guests utilizing "Hotels Near Me" searches should be aware of the significant concerns raised by past occupants regarding cleanliness, pest infestations, limited amenities, and security. The experience at this hotel, particularly for those placed by DSS, appears to be very different from what one might typically expect from a standard hotel or motel stay. For promotional information, it would typically highlight its location on NY-5S and its role in community support, but an objective introduction necessitates including the detailed feedback on the current conditions as described by actual patrons.

i saw a cockroach just chillin next to the “community shared microwave” I brought it to the attention of the night clerk and she killed it and said”1 down .. a million to go’” this hotel provides shelter for individuals seeking help from DSS as a result of be coming victim as a result of escaping a Domestic Violence situation or eviction .. or just becoming homeless.. in this respect the hotel is an asset to the homeless community, but having an infestation of covkroaes in plain view, and also the rooms seen on the website are not the rooms available to the DSS clients.. the rooms available to these clients are minimal amenities.. space towels sheets .. no garbage pickup.. or continental bfast, or suitable shower conditions. as the finish on the tub and shower are peeling.. debris when showering and bathing.
Dec 20, 2024 · yvette horningguraI had some family members who had to stay there because its the only place dss will pay for when they were homeless. And it is absolutely THE most disgusting dump I have ever seen. The rooms were not even minimally cleaned and they stunk like roaches or something just a dirty scummy smell. Had a layer of dust on everything and droppings from the nasty old celling tiles all over the beds and everything. They have Cockroaches so bad, under the fridge, and anywhere it's dark. The sheets did not look clean at all. The floors were full of whatever crumbs were falling from the nasty old ceiling. And asking them to clean the rooms is some sort of crazy idea. They dont want to clean. If you HAVE to stay there because its your only option youll have to clean the room yourself just to have a clean space for your children because they will not do it and they look at you like your crazy when you say anything or have a complaint. There's no phones and no microwaves in the rooms. What kind of motel doesnt have phones? No chairs outside but people bring wooden chairs that look awful out to sit in front of their rooms all day, instead getting a job or something to help themselves get out of this situation. There's not even a good dead bolt or chain lock just a cheap tiny "bolt" and security is a MAJOR concern there. There are drug addicts all over the place. Lock your vehicle and your door. Don't leave anything outside because people steal even the dumbest stuff like a camp chair or stroller. Shady people are hanging around outside all day and night. There is major drug dealing and prostitution going on there. Lots of scary people at this place. Late at night there's a lot of traffic with people in and out, a bunch of strange men and women making rounds. People play loud music all night long and no one seems to care. Trying to get toilet paper is a joke. They don't even clean why would they care if you have toilet paper or clean towels. Oh they don't. There is wifi but it doesn't reach the whole motel. I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay in this dump. It's really sad that dss families have to stay there and they give them their WORST ROOMS on purpose. They save the "nicer" cleaner rooms for cash customers, but they should be providing the same service to everyone because at the end of the day, they are still getting paid. Just because someone is having a hard time and needs a little help doesn't mean they should have to live like that with roaches, mice, bed bugs, filth, and open drug use and hooking going on. It's disgusting. Do not stay at this place.
Oct 07, 2024 · Heather HotalingThis place needs to be shut down!!! This is the most disgusting place I have ever seen. I understand that DSS helps people and puts them here, but they need to inspect these places before they put families in them. Schenectady county department of social services pulled their people out in the middle of the night due to the conditions of the rooms. It is just a matter of time before Fulton county does the same. They have cockroaches falling from the ceiling, and bed bugs. Some of the rooms are so bad that the ground outside is cleaner than the floor inside. Just because someone is down on their luck and needs a little help doesn't mean they should have to live like that!!! Someone needs to have building and codes go in there and do an inspection!! This place is not safe and is disgusting!! I will get photos and add them soon!
Dec 06, 2023 · Victoria MabbSpoke with a lady at the front desk completely disrespectful. If you wanna go to a hotel that reeks of mold and never wanna stop throwing up this is the hotel to go to. I will be contacting the department of health on this hotel because the walls just smell like there’s mold in it. First room they put me in it wasn’t even clean. Bed sheets looked like someone ate on em. This place is just awful. Oh and to top it all off my girlfriend is pregnant so that just goes to show what incompetence really looks like. If you wait up around 3am and look the main receptionist can be seen smoking crack. I just can’t believe how unprofessional and unsanitary this place really is.
Dec 06, 2023 · Trey PelletierI think this is a pretty decent place and I would request this to someone who is looking for a night stay, the people are nice I haven’t had no issues, everyone leaving bad reviews but don’t say anything positive so that’s what I’m here to do, you go anywhere else they are way expensive yes the room can use some work sometimes but at lest you have a place to rest your head, this is an old building been here for a long time so yes the room could use an upgrade but when people are in the rooms how are they going to be worked on I see everyone here that works here bust there butt making sure everything is okay, the are making improvements so how about instead of talking down about this place how about the fact they take dss people, homeless family’s and give them a place to stay I don’t see many hotels doing that this place has a lot of my respect honestly!!!!! If it wasn’t for this hotel I’d be on the street they helped me out a roof over my head!!!!! So please guys look at the positive and not the negative!!!
