If this is the same place as I remember I had done to this hotel when I was like 12 or 13 back in early 2000’s. I remember this place having a different name and they’re were like shamrock ☘️ logos all around fhe place. It was a nice area for the whole family to go to for a little bit of countryside relaxation. Although like most things in life it was far from perfect, we ( my family ) should have known something was off about the joint because when we all checked in with at the main office area they (the employees) handed us bug swatters and fly paper. I remember the staff being extremely helpful, polite, and friendly especially to me and my little brother so I don’t want to take anything away from them in that perspective. Although the problem wasn’t the staff, the food, or even the other guests ( which they’re where far and few between ). No the issue was the FLY’S ! And they’re shere so many of them like I never seen anything like it in my life before or ever again since. The fly’s were so thick it was like a sci fi movie or horror movie. They ( the fly’s ) where everywhere and it was like they were impervious to any sort of repellent or bug spray. It got so bad my grandmother even set a plate or two of food out on one side of an empty picnic bench so they flys could be distracted eating that food and hopefully they would leave us to eat without swatting our hands every thirty seconds to fend off the unwanted guests. I remember finding out later that the soup company Campbell’s had a slaughterhouse a short distance away from the resort and that was the reason for the infestation. The most horrific site wasn’t the living flys swarming around the outside but instead inside one of the cabin's I’ll never forget laying in the bed looking up at the ceiling light and the entire bottom was filled with dead bugs like so full the light resembled more of a pepper shaker that’s how many corpses were in there. Hopefully they’ve found a solution for that problem because I couldn’t imagine anyone putting up with all of that for more than one night I don’t care how cheap the rates and even if they let you drink and eat for free it was inconceivably diabolical. Anyway I’m just shocked that nobody has mentioned any of this in the comments section.

Baumann's Brookside Introduce

For local users and travelers seeking a classic family resort experience within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Baumann's Brookside in Greenville, NY, offers a distinctive and long-standing option. Located at 77 Johnny Cake Ln, Greenville, NY 12083, USA, this resort is known for its traditional, activity-focused approach to family vacations in the picturesque Catskill Mountains. The resort can be reached by phone at (518) 966-5218 or mobile at +1 518-966-5218.

The environment of Baumann's Brookside is set in the scenic countryside of the Catskill Mountains, providing a backdrop for relaxation and outdoor activities. Guests consistently mention the "Catskills are breath taking," indicating the natural beauty of the surroundings. The resort aims to provide a "little bit of countryside relaxation" for the whole family. The property appears to be designed to encourage outdoor engagement, with mentions of a "large pool," a "gorgeous pond" for fishing, and various areas for activities like cornhole and ping pong. As a multi-generational resort, it cultivates an environment where families can "grow closer" and new families can meet, fostering a sense of community. However, a significant environmental concern raised in one older review, dating back to the early 2000s, described a severe "FLY'S" infestation, attributed to a nearby slaughterhouse. This review paints a vivid picture of flies being "everywhere," "swarming," and even accumulating dead within light fixtures. While this is a very strong historical account, the lack of more recent mentions of such a severe problem in readily available reviews suggests that this issue may have been addressed or is no longer as prevalent. It's important to note this past environmental challenge for an objective introduction, but also to consider the timeframe and potential for resolution. The overall intention of the environment is to provide a comprehensive and engaging setting for family fun and relaxation.

The services at Baumann's Brookside appear to be centered around an all-inclusive or near all-inclusive model, emphasizing convenience and a packed schedule of activities. A key service highlight, frequently praised, is the provision of "three delicious meals that baumanns also provides, and that’s not including the late night snacks!" This indicates a comprehensive dining service designed to cater to guests throughout the day, removing the hassle of finding external dining options. The staff consistently receives high praise, described as "extremely helpful, polite, and friendly." Rosemary and her family, likely the proprietors, are noted for putting "so much effort," which "doesn’t go unnoticed," suggesting a strong sense of personal dedication to guest satisfaction. Beyond meals, the resort provides "so many activity to do each day!" This implies a robust daily program of supervised or self-guided recreational activities. While one older review mentioned being handed "bug swatters and fly paper" upon check-in, which points to a specific service response to an environmental issue at that time, it also underlines a staff willingness to assist guests with challenges. The enduring positive sentiment about staff and activities suggests a strong commitment to guest engagement and providing a full vacation experience.

The features of Baumann's Brookside are extensive and designed to keep families entertained and engaged throughout their stay. Key features mentioned or implied by reviews include:

  • Accommodation: While specific room types are not detailed, the mention of "cabins" in one review suggests varied lodging options, likely designed for family comfort and practicality rather than high luxury.
  • Dining Facilities: A dining area capable of serving "three delicious meals" daily, complemented by "late night snacks."
  • Extensive Recreational Facilities:
    • A "large pool" for swimming, a central feature for warm weather.
    • A "gorgeous pond" for fishing, offering a tranquil outdoor activity.
    • Dedicated areas for games like "cornhole or ping pong tournament," indicating organized or casual competitive play.
    • A wide array of "activities to do each day," suggesting a diverse program that might include sports, games, entertainment, or guided nature experiences.
  • Family-Oriented Atmosphere: The resort is inherently designed to foster family bonding and create a welcoming environment for meeting "new family’s," implying common areas and activities that encourage social interaction.
  • Dedicated Staff/Ownership: The consistent praise for staff and "Rosemary and her family" indicates a committed and present ownership/management, which is a significant feature contributing to the overall guest experience.
The older review, while negative about the flies, also implies that even then, the rates might have been "cheap" and included "drink and eat for free," reinforcing the all-inclusive, value-oriented nature of the resort's features.

From a promotional standpoint, Baumann's Brookside, as a prominent offering within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, positions itself as a timeless and highly memorable family vacation destination in the Catskills. The recurring theme is the creation of cherished "memories" over "basically my entire life" for repeat guests. Promotional messages would highlight its "fun time" guarantee and the abundance of "activities to do each day." The "three delicious meals" and "late night snacks" are strong selling points, emphasizing convenience and value. The resort's ability to facilitate family bonding ("grow closer to my family here") is a powerful emotional appeal. The dedication of the staff, particularly Rosemary and her family, would likely be featured prominently in any marketing. While there's a strong negative historical account about flies, the fact that a guest wrote their "college essay on it" due to the positive impact of their experiences underscores the deep loyalty and affection the resort inspires in many. This suggests a focus on traditional, wholesome family fun and a long-standing reputation. The resort would appeal to families seeking an active, inclusive vacation in a natural setting, where the focus is on creating shared experiences and lasting memories, rather than luxurious, high-end amenities. It's a place for unplugging and enjoying the simplicity and camaraderie of a classic family resort experience in the scenic Catskills.

I’ve been coming to baumanns for basically my entire life. Words cannot describe the memories this place has given me. If you’re looking for a fun time this is definitely it. The catskills are breath taking and baumanns provides so many activity to do each day! Can’t forget about the three delicious meals that baumanns also provides, and that’s not including the late night snacks! Wether your swimming in the large pool, fishing in the gorgeous pond, or participating in a cornhole or ping pong tournament your never bored. Every year I feel that I grow closer to my family here and I love meeting new family’s that also go to baumanns. The staff is more than kind and Rosemary and her family put in so much effort, it doesn’t go unnoticed. I love this place so much I wrote my college essay on it! Anyways go to baumanns you will not regret! 🫶

My family and I have been coming to Baumanns for over 20 years and it is the perfect place in the mountains to vacation. We go the same week every year and have made so many friends there that make the week even that much more enjoyable! It is the perfect place to disconnect from your daily life and reconnect with family and friends. The staff is so welcoming and accommodating for anything you need. From the food to the day and nighttime activities- they really cover everything. We certainly love Baumann’s and countdown the days to our vacation every August!

I used to come here as a child, and have returned after many years away. The food was excellent! We only stayed for a couple nights, and the highlights from meals were the meatballs, the coffee cake (my gawd...incredible), the porkchops, and the steak bbq buffet with so many options. I don't remember the food from the 90s but I'll remember the food now! And, our server Cali was very attentive and helpful! The "casino"/rec hall is still fun as ever (great band on Weds night!), and the snack bar has a variety of extremely well-priced drinks. Across the street, there's an idyllic pond with gorgeous weeping willows, and the pool on the hill is large and fun. A bunch of new outdoor seating near the casino was added, and they also had a big event tent in case of rain. Our family loves Baumann's and can't wait until next year!
