For direct inquiries and reservations, guests can contact them at (518) 634-7642 or +1 518-634-7642. This long-standing resort in the Catskill Mountains aims to provide a family-friendly getaway with a wide array of activities, particularly catering to those seeking an all-inclusive style vacation.
Sunny Hill Resort & Golf Course is nestled in a "beautiful part of New York State," leveraging the natural scenic beauty of the Catskill Mountains. The resort spans a considerable property, which includes an 18-hole championship golf course that is a significant draw. The expansive grounds are designed to accommodate a multitude of outdoor activities and provide a sense of space for guests. However, some aspects of the physical environment, particularly in terms of infrastructure and aesthetics, have received mixed feedback. Reviews indicate that some "minor building issues such as nails popping out of decks and old and somewhat worn furniture" might be present, giving a "DIY construction vibe." Common play areas, while numerous, have been described as "dated" and in need of "better cleaning for dust under furniture and up keeping of wooden structures." While the overall location is lovely, there's a noted need for "better attention to insect management and prevention," especially concerning bees and spiders in August. Despite these points, the sheer size and variety of the property, including a lake for activities and ample green space, contribute to its appeal for families seeking diverse outdoor engagement rather than pristine, modern aesthetics. The environment is clearly geared towards active family enjoyment rather than a sleek, contemporary luxury experience.
Sunny Hill Resort & Golf Course operates with a focus on providing a wide range of activities and an all-inclusive experience, especially for families. The resort is described as "well run with a professional staff that were very knowledgeable about all aspects of operations." The overall service is deemed "acceptable," though some guests noted a prevalence of "very young employees," suggesting a potential reliance on a non-local pool of talent. The resort offers three meals a day, served family-style in their dining room, adhering to their traditional resort model. They provide a vast array of activities throughout the day, including daily children's activities, adult events, themed parties, live entertainment (such as bands, magicians, and comedians), and various sports. Key activities include access to an 18-hole USGA rated golf course, multiple swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), a lake for fishing and boating, tennis courts, shuffleboard, and more unique offerings like monster truck rides, bingo, and hayrides. The resort also hosts specific themed weekends and events, such as Christmas in July, Labor Day Weekend, and Columbus Day Weekend, complete with fireworks displays. For families, the resort provides children's programs and counselors. Despite the breadth of activities, some events, like the "Lakeside party on Friday," were described as "tired, though acceptable." The snack shop has prices "similar to more upscale venues," which might be unexpected given the overall perception of value. While there is a strong focus on providing entertainment, the refinement of some aspects of service and maintenance appears to be an area for ongoing attention.
The core features of Sunny Hill Resort & Golf Course revolve around its extensive recreational offerings and its suitability for families, particularly those with "very young children, newborns to 8 years." The resort boasts an 18-hole championship golf course, which is a major draw for golf enthusiasts. For water activities, there are multiple swimming pools, including both indoor and outdoor options, and a lake that facilitates fishing and boating. Land-based sports facilities include tennis courts and shuffleboard. Beyond traditional sports, the resort offers a unique blend of entertainment, such as monster truck rides, which cater to a sense of adventure and novelty. Evening entertainment often includes live performances by bands, magicians, and comedians. Dining is provided on an all-inclusive basis with three meals daily, although the food has been described as "acceptable; basic." Guest rooms, while providing a place to rest, have been noted as "dated and tired" with "somewhat worn furniture." This suggests that while functional, they might not offer the modern luxury experience some travelers seek. Despite these observations on room aesthetics, the sheer volume of amenities and activities available on-site forms the primary appeal of Sunny Hill. The resort aims to keep guests, especially children, engaged and entertained throughout their stay, embodying a traditional family resort model rather than a high-end luxury hotel.
Sunny Hill Resort & Golf Course primarily promotes itself as an "all-inclusive" destination for families, a place where fun and relaxation are paramount. For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me" with an emphasis on family vacations, Sunny Hill aims to provide a comprehensive package that minimizes the need to seek outside entertainment. The resort highlights its long history, having been family-owned and operated for over 100 years, emphasizing a tradition of hospitality. Their promotional materials would typically showcase the vast array of activities available, from golf and swimming to unique events like monster truck rides and fireworks, ensuring there's "something for everyone." The emphasis is on value for money in terms of entertainment and meals, even if the accommodations are not the most modern. While some reviews suggest "prices seem higher than necessary" and that "overall service is acceptable," the resort's strength lies in its extensive program. It caters specifically to a niche market: families with young children who appreciate a structured environment with ample activities. The experience is designed to be a relaxing getaway in a beautiful part of New York State. However, it is also important to note that some past guests would "not likely return" and recommend shopping around, indicating that expectations regarding modern amenities and overall value should be managed. Therefore, potential guests should consider Sunny Hill if their priority is an abundance of activities in a family-oriented, all-inclusive setting, understanding that the emphasis is on experience and breadth of offerings rather than contemporary luxury or refined dining.

May 06, 2025 · Craig HarbourRooms seem dated and tired, minor building issues such as nails popping out of decks and old and somewhat worn furniture; has a DIY construction vibe. Common play areas are dated and need better cleaning for dust under furniture and up keeping of wooden structures. We didn't use the pools. Overall service is acceptable, must not have local pool of talent; lots of very young employees. Seems child friendly. Location is lovely, though they need better attention to insect management and prevention. We stayed in August, lots of bees and spiders. Lakeside party on Friday seemed tired, though acceptable. Not sure of the competition in area, but prices seem higher than necessary. Snack shop has prices similar to more upscale venues. Food is acceptable; basic. We did not play golf. Overall this place is more suited for families with very young children, newborns to 8 years. Not likely to return. We can't recommend this place, shop around.
Aug 25, 2024 · VG13We love sunny hill. The rooms are well kept and clean. They staff is great. The food is usually very good even though sometimes it's a little later than other times, but I know they are still adjusting. The Friday night lake parties are so much fun. Can't go wrong with free food, soda, beer, and ice cream. We have a lot of fun on all the rides. The train ride give amazing views of the mountains. We love all the different play grounds around the resort. Golfing area is also great. Fireworks and band, truly enjoy it here. Always always a good time!
Sep 12, 2023 · makeupby dbjWorst course in the area, yet they charge like they are one of the best. It’s not even a full course, the front 9 is basically a par 3… and the worst part was the condition of the course. The greens were slow but decent, but the tee boxes were all dirt no grass, fairways were bare and dry in spots and way too long in other spots, and the roughs were super high and unkept. Yet still, 18 holes and a cart would cost you the same (or more) as some of the other beautiful, full courses in the area like Sycamore, Island Green or Thunderhart. I will not golf here again. I just hope I can save someone a bad experience like i had before they hide this review
Jun 19, 2024 · Austin CarrkThis gorgeous 18 hole course in the foothills of the Catskills is a true gem of the northeastern United States. With jaw dropping views of the mighty Catskills in every direction, this unique golf resort is the perfect escape for a family getaway or a quick 18 with the boys. There are pools, waterslides, tennis and basketball courts, bars, restaurants, and thats just what I could see from the course! Challenging short par 3/4 front 9 and a drastically different back 9, with tight lengthy fairways and a water element on nearly every hole. Enjoy the mountains and support this killer course!! 🏌️⛳
