The location was amazing! The building and room were very clean! Staff at the hotel itself were great, very friendly and made it a point to greet you whether you were coming or going. Valet staff was also amazing. They were very efficient and professional, most went above and beyond! The $25 a night parking on top of the room rates was unexpected. There was no hot tub to relax so we decided not to swim but during our stay the pool was almost full. The beds were extremely firm, which is a personal preference but did not work for us at all. The restaurant staff did not seem to care to assure guests/customers were satisfied with their purchases. I had ordered a steak, MEDIUM done, and when I cut into it, it seeped blood into my side of mashed potatoes. My husband brought it to our servers attention and he agreed it was not done “medium” but informed us they do not put it back on and apologized and walked away. We couldn’t eat the steak or the rest of the potatoes and we still paid full price. Very poor customer service for a restaurant that is advertised throughout the hotel. There was no continental breakfast included in our stay. Instead, there was a menu for the restaurant that we had a horrible experience with left on a desk as the only option that was provided. It was decent as far as customer service. However we would not go back based off the comfort of the beds, extra charges for parking, terrible restaurant experience, and no included breakfast; especially since the breakfast for purchase was from the restaurant that not only ruined our meal but treated us with no consideration, hospitality, or being open to correcting issues with food that was not done as requested.

This article is written for locals and provides a comprehensive look at this historic hotel, offering a balance of its impressive highlights and some of the potential drawbacks mentioned in recent guest reviews. The Best Western Premier Park Hotel is unique in its blend of history and modern amenities. As one guest review noted, the hotel is "over 100 years old, but has been meticulously cared for." This meticulous care is evident in its "spotless" condition and "quality upgrades," including a "gorgeous luxury shower" that impressed a reviewer. The hotel’s stunning location on Capitol Square is a major draw, offering "gorgeous views of the State Capital and the lake." This is not your typical chain hotel experience; it’s a place with a distinct personality that is tied directly to the history and energy of Madison itself. While some aspects, like the firmness of the beds and the restaurant's customer service, have drawn criticism, the hotel's core strengths—its location, cleanliness, and overall staff friendliness—are consistently praised. As one guest stated, the "staff at the hotel itself were great, very friendly and made it a point to greet you whether you were coming or going." This contrast in guest experiences highlights the importance of a detailed overview, which we aim to provide.
In the following sections, we will provide a comprehensive overview of the Best Western Premier Park Hotel, covering everything from its unbeatable location and accessibility to the list of services and features that guests can enjoy. We will also address why this particular hotel is perfectly suited for Wisconsin residents, offering an immersive local experience that feels both luxurious and authentic. So, if you're a local looking to plan your next great escape to Madison, read on to discover why the Best Western Premier Park Hotel is an option worth considering, with all its pros and cons in mind.
The location of the Best Western Premier Park Hotel is, without a doubt, one of its greatest assets. The hotel is situated at 22 S Carroll St, Madison, WI 53703, USA, placing it directly on Capitol Square. This "convenience of staying right on Capital Square can't be beat," as one guest enthusiastically noted. From this location, you can "walk everywhere," including to the renowned Saturday morning Farmer's Market, local restaurants, shops, and attractions like the Overture Center for the Arts and the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. This central location eliminates the need to constantly drive, which is a significant advantage for locals who want to immerse themselves in the city's vibrant downtown culture. The views from the hotel are also a major highlight, with rooms offering perspectives of the State Capitol, Lake Monona, or the city skyline.
Accessibility to and from the hotel is a mix of convenience and a few potential hurdles. For guests arriving by car, the hotel offers valet parking, which is described as "very efficient and professional" by a reviewer. However, it's important to note that this is not a free service, with a parking charge of "$25 a night." This "unexpected" fee, as one guest called it, is a factor to consider when budgeting for your stay. The valet service does offer the convenience of leaving your car and not having to worry about finding parking in a busy downtown area. The hotel also offers a free airport shuttle to and from MSN Airport, which is a fantastic perk for those flying in or out of the area. For locals, the hotel's central location means it's a perfect base for a "park once and walk everywhere" vacation, a sentiment echoed by a satisfied guest. The combination of its prime location and available transportation services makes it a highly accessible destination.
The services at the Best Western Premier Park Hotel are designed to provide a comfortable and convenient stay, though some aspects have received mixed reviews. On the positive side, the staff is consistently praised for their "first class" service and friendly demeanor. The "valet staff was also amazing," going "above and beyond." The hotel also offers complimentary Wi-Fi, a fitness center, and an indoor pool. However, a significant point of contention for some guests is the on-site restaurant, The Post. While one review praised the "folks at the bar/restaurant," another had a "horrible experience," detailing a situation where a steak was served undercooked and the staff was unwilling to correct the issue. This led to a "very poor customer service" experience and the guests feeling a lack of "consideration, hospitality, or being open to correcting issues." Additionally, the hotel does not include a continental breakfast, instead offering the restaurant as the only option, which was a drawback for some. This is a crucial point for locals to be aware of when booking, as it can affect both the budget and the overall dining experience.

The features and highlights of the Best Western Premier Park Hotel are what give it its unique character and charm. The building itself, with its more than 100-year history, has been "meticulously cared for" and offers features that are a refreshing change from modern, cookie-cutter hotels. The rooms, some of which are suites, provide a great deal of space and come with "all of the quality upgrades you'd expect," including a "gorgeous luxury shower." The views from the rooms are a major selling point, with options for a Capitol, lake, or city view. The cleanliness of the hotel is another consistently praised feature, with guests noting that the "building and room were very clean" and the entire hotel was "SPOTLESS throughout." This attention to detail is a hallmark of a well-managed property. For those who want to relax, the indoor pool is available, though some guests mentioned the lack of a hot tub. Despite this, the hotel's blend of historic architecture and modern comfort, as well as its unique views, make for a memorable stay.

Jul 23, 2025 · Amanda YoungWe had a first class experience from start to finish. The convenience of staying right on Capital Square can't be beat. We parked our car once and walked everywhere, including the big Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. The hotel is over 100 years old, but has been meticulously cared for. It also has incredible character, with gorgeous views of the State Capital and the lake. Our room had all of the quality upgrades you'd expect - including a gorgeous luxury shower. I was also impressed that the entire hotel was SPOTLESS throughout. Service was tremendous, including the folks at the bar/restaurant and the valet staff. Overall - this place is obviously very well managed...and it shows!
May 19, 2025 · Marti GahlmanThis is not your typical Best Western. The hotel is very classic and well done. Rooms were updated and on par with nice historic hotels in cities like Chicago and New York. The location cannot be beat for theater, restaurants, lakefront, etc. Everything was clean and well taken care of. Room was quiet and had excellent temperature control. Valet pricing was reasonable and relieved stress.
Jun 23, 2025 · blockmaryEverything was immaculate. From the employees, to the room being clean, and the view was amazing. They have all the soaps and things you might need if you don’t bring your own. Bed was comfortable and clean! Vallet was super convenient. Will definitely be back.
Jun 24, 2025 · Emma BurkleLovely hotel on the square in Madison, recently updated. The staff was outstanding. Arrived for a Friday night stay and we were upgraded to a Capital view room at no extra charge. The Google cast to the TV wasn't working so the manager paid for our breakfast AND our valet parking! The view of the Capital from our bed was breathtaking and the suite was wonderful. I wish I had taken more pictures of the room but I hadn't planned on giving a review. Icing on the cake was the farmer's market on the square Saturday morning. Mid May meant not a lot of produce but we loaded up on some outstanding pastries and bakery goods!
