I was assured verbally and in writing that this establishment welcomed off leash dogs to enjoy their rural property, which included livestock, ponds, and trails. We arrived on a beautiful spring morning after two days of torrential rains. The pond water had churned and the trails were very muddy, but I had paid the requisite cleaning fee and assumed that the owners understood what happens when dogs encounter these conditions. Because no outdoor hoses are provided to rinse the dog off, I took him into the shower stall in the room to clean him up when we returned, using the towels to dry him off. I assume all linens are laundered between guests. Imagine my shock when I was charged $800.00 extra for cleaning the room. The owner claims that the linens, sofa, and mattress were ruined and that the dog urinated everywhere. There was no sofa in the room. My dog absolutely did not urinate in the room. I don’t know what kind of linens are ruined in a hot water wash cycle. I believe this is a cash-grab to have a guest pay to freshen the room up and replace a tired, old mattress and worn out towels without having to reach into his own pocket. I’m glad I went with my dog. Despite the lovely May weather, we were the only guests I could see on the property. I now understand why. Moreover, no staff is available on the premises overnight. It’s unsettling, especially if you are a single woman. Pay close attention to the negative reviews. Don’t stay here. I will let my credit card company sort this out. They have lots of experience dealing with con artists.

Services and Amenities:

Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa offers a comprehensive array of services and amenities designed to cater to a diverse range of guests. These include:

  • Accommodation: The resort features 18 individually decorated guest rooms, with 10 located in the main inn building and seven in freestanding carriage houses or private cottages. Rooms often include fireplaces, free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and private bathrooms with amenities. Some rooms offer garden or river views. Specific options like the North Cottage, Riverbirch House, and Riverknoll Mansion provide more spacious, private accommodations, often with full kitchens and multiple bedrooms, ideal for families or larger groups. Note that children and pets are typically allowed only in the carriage suites and private houses, not in the main inn building.

  • Dining: A highlight of the Buttermilk Falls experience is Henry's at the Farm, the on-site farm-to-table restaurant. Henry's is renowned for its contemporary country menu, featuring ingredients sourced directly from the Inn's own Millstone Farm and other local producers. This commitment to fresh, local fare extends to the complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast served daily in the Inn's Sun Room, which includes homemade muffins, eggs from the farm's aviary, and other fresh items. Afternoon tea, with house-made baked goods, is also offered. The restaurant also has a bar/lounge and often provides outdoor seating overlooking the swan pond.

  • Buttermilk Spa: The resort's world-class spa is a major draw. It offers a wide range of treatments, including various massages (signature, Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, maternity, CBD), facials, body treatments, and manicures/pedicures. Spa facilities typically include an indoor "endless current" pool, sauna, steam room, and spa tub. Guests have full access to these spa facilities, providing opportunities for relaxation and rejuvenation.

  • Recreational Facilities: Beyond the spa, the property offers an outdoor tennis court, and a well-equipped fitness center. The extensive grounds are perfect for leisurely strolls, birdwatching, and enjoying the natural surroundings. Yoga classes may also be available.

  • Weddings and Events: Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa is a popular venue for weddings and other special events. It offers versatile event spaces, including a barn that can accommodate up to 90 guests and various outdoor areas with stunning views for ceremonies and receptions. The staff is often praised for their event planning and execution.

  • Pet Policy: The resort is pet-friendly in designated accommodations (carriage suites and houses), with a stated pet cleaning fee (e.g., $25 per pet, per night). However, guests are required to keep pets on a leash and not leave them unattended in rooms, as highlighted in one of the reviews.

  • Eco-Friendly Practices: The Inn emphasizes its commitment to sustainability, with its organic farm, orchard, and beehives, providing fresh produce and honey for guests and the restaurant. The animal rescue sanctuary further underscores this commitment.

Features and Distinguishing Aspects:

What truly sets Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa apart in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category is its unique combination of a luxury resort experience with a functional farm and animal sanctuary. This integration offers guests an immersive experience that goes beyond typical hotel stays. The individually decorated rooms, emphasis on farm-to-table dining, and comprehensive spa services all contribute to its distinctive charm. The serene Hudson River setting, combined with the presence of rescue animals, creates an ambiance that is both elegant and endearing. The option for diverse accommodations, from cozy inn rooms to spacious private houses, caters to different preferences and group sizes.

Promotional Information and Guest Experiences:

Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa often promotes itself as an ideal destination for romantic getaways, mini-moons, family vacations, and weddings. Guests can typically find booking information and potentially special packages on the resort's official website and through major travel booking platforms. The resort also leverages its unique farm and spa features in its marketing, attracting those interested in wellness, culinary experiences, and nature.

Guest reviews, while generally positive for many aspects, offer a varied perspective. One highly positive review highlights the "amazing, so nice and helpful" staff, praising their attentiveness, assistance with photo spots, and a complimentary bottle of wine for a "mini moon." The breakfast also received praise. This aligns with other reviews that commend the staff's professionalism, kindness, and dedication, especially in the context of events like weddings.

However, another review details significant issues, particularly concerning pet policies and room quality. This guest was "assured verbally and in writing that this establishment welcomed off leash dogs," but was later charged an "extra $800.00 for cleaning the room" after their dog, following heavy rains, required rinsing in the shower. The guest disputes claims of ruined linens, a soiled mattress, or urination, suggesting the charge was a "cash-grab" for room freshening. This review also notes that "no staff is available on the premises overnight," which can be unsettling, especially for single travelers. The guest also mentions being "the only guests I could see on the property" despite lovely weather, implying low occupancy which they attributed to the negative aspects. It's crucial to note that the Inn's official pet policy, as found on their website, explicitly states a $25 per pet, per night cleaning fee and requires pets to be on a leash and not left unattended in rooms. This directly contradicts the guest's claim of being assured off-leash privileges and indicates a significant discrepancy or misunderstanding that led to the substantial charge.

Further, the second reviewer, despite praising Henry's on the Farm, criticized the comfort of the rooms, specifically mentioning an "uncomfortable" bed with "springs in the mattress," "rough sheets," an "uncontrollably hot" room, and "ants in the bathroom." This highlights a potential inconsistency in room quality and maintenance, especially considering the high price point (noted as $400/night).

These reviews collectively suggest that while Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa excels in its unique environment, farm-to-table dining, and often, its staff service, there might be inconsistencies in guest room quality and a need for clearer communication regarding specific policies, particularly pet policies, to manage guest expectations effectively. Prospective guests searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" seeking a luxurious and unique experience should consider these points and perhaps confirm specific room details and policies directly with the Inn before booking, especially if traveling with pets.

The staff were amazing, so nice and helpful. We stayed there for our "mini moon" after getting married. One friendly staff member from the front desk brought us a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate which was a lovely touch, and other staff helped pinpoint some great spots on the property for photos. And breakfast was pretty good. The downside though was the rooms... for $400/night I expected better. The bed was really uncomfortable; we could feel the springs in the mattress and the sheets were rough. It was also uncontrollably hot in the room, and there were ants in the bathroom. But we loved our meal at Henry's on the Farm, and again the staff at the Inn were excellent. Just wouldn't want to sleep there again for that high price.

I got married here in mid November and had the most perfect wedding day. They were easy to work with and accommodated all our requests. The food was incredible. I heard from multiple guests that it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. We stayed at Pony's Pad, and most of the wedding party stayed at the Riverknoll house. Both were beautifully designed, clean, and offered stunning spaces with great light for our photos. The whole property is incredibly well maintained, and all the staff were so helpful and kind.

My wife and I just returned from an amazing two night getaway at the Buttermilk Falls Inn. This was our 2nd time here, but 1st time in 10 years so we got to enjoy the grounds and inn like it was our 1st time. Service was fantastic from start to finish, the front desk reception was very helpful and always asked how we were enjoying the stay every time we passed by the desk. Breakfast both mornings was excellent, especially the house made Orange pancakes this morning and our server was so friendly! We had an amazing meal at Henry's on Saturday night, the food was incredible and the Scallop appetizer was the star of the evening. My wife said her massage was one of the best she has ever had, compliments to Jeff! Maybe it was the snow falling Sunday evening that added to the ambience but being cozied up in our room in front of the fireplace was all that we could have asked for to end a great weekend. Being two working parents, getting away for a weekend its a very rare event, and everything for our weekend away hit the mark! Thank you Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa for making a very memorable experience for us!

My facial was great! The massage was terrible I never had one where they put so much oil and left it. It never got rubbed in the lady swiped once down my arms and legs and was done with it. Would not book a massage again.
