The Central Hotel is indeed a historical landmark in Delaware City, known for its past as a prominent hotel and restaurant, with roots dating back to its construction around 1835. However, based on current information and recent customer reviews, the building has been meticulously refurbished in the early 2010s to preserve its 1908 glory but has since been repurposed. It now primarily serves as a vibrant hub for female-owned and operated small businesses and an event venue, keeping its rich history alive through its current use rather than offering traditional hotel rooms.
The Central Hotel building is located at 85 Clinton Street, a historic street in Delaware City. This charming small town is situated on the Delaware River, offering picturesque views and a quaint, historic atmosphere. Clinton Street itself is part of the Delaware City Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring over 200 structures built from the early 19th to early 20th centuries. The environment around the Central Hotel building is one of preserved historical charm, with cobblestone streets, other historic buildings like the Delaware City Hotel (also not a current hotel), and easy access to the waterfront. Visitors can stroll through the historic district, explore local shops, and enjoy the town's quiet, scenic beauty. Beyond these specific businesses, the building also serves as a venue for "weddings or special events." This implies that the former hotel's grand spaces can be rented out for private functions, allowing guests to experience the historic ambiance for celebratory occasions. The staff associated with these businesses are described as "enamored with its rich history," suggesting they are willing to share stories of the building's past with clients and visitors. While not a typical hotel, the building still brings "hundreds of clients through their doors each week," indicating it's an active and valued part of the community.
The key features of the Central Hotel building are its historical preservation and its adaptation to modern uses. The owners took "great pride in refurbishing this building to its glory days in the early 2010s," ensuring that many "elements from the original structure" were kept alive. This means visitors can expect to see architectural details and design elements reflective of its 1908 appearance as the Central Hotel & Restaurant. The building itself is a "wedge-shaped" brick edifice. While not offering hotel rooms, the internal spaces are now configured to accommodate the various small businesses, including salon stations and potentially event spaces. The transformation allows for "many residents to still visit" and utilize its services. The emphasis is on experiencing the historical grandeur through its contemporary functions. The building's continued existence is seen as a "benefit to the town having not torn the beauty down," underscoring its significant architectural and historical features.
Since the Central Hotel is not a traditional hotel, its "promotional information" does not revolve around booking rooms or typical hospitality packages. Instead, promotion would focus on its historical significance and the services offered by the businesses operating within. Information might include:
