This hotel is crying for a renovation. The doors are old, the decor is dated, and the elevators are sketchy. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable, but the issue we had with the room that really put a damper on our stay was the room keys NEVER worked once. We had to essentially be escorted to our room everytime we needed the door opened. Not only that, but ID was not requested one time, which made us uneasy. Apparently they were "updating" the door locks and it was only supposed to take about 30 to 40 minutes, but then we were told later that night that the keycard reader wasn't working. So we were basically given dead keys for no reason, and anyone could've said the room number and could've gotten in. Just a real bummer.
For individuals and families exploring "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Newark, Delaware area, particularly those seeking extended-stay accommodations, the TownePlace Suites Wilmington Newark/Christiana offers a practical and feature-rich choice. Located at 410 Eagle Run Rd, Newark, DE 19702, USA, this Marriott property is designed to provide home-like comforts with the convenience of hotel services, catering to guests on longer trips or those simply desiring more space and amenities.
The TownePlace Suites Wilmington Newark/Christiana is strategically situated in a commercial hub, offering excellent accessibility to major roadways and local points of interest. Its location on Eagle Run Road provides a quiet yet connected environment, within a short drive of key destinations. Notably, the hotel is close to the Christiana Mall, a significant regional shopping and dining destination, allowing guests easy access to a variety of retail and culinary experiences. The proximity to the University of Delaware also makes it a suitable option for visiting academics, students, or families.
While the immediate environment might be characterized by other businesses and hotels, the property aims to offer a comfortable and functional setting. It's important to note that some reviews suggest the hotel is "crying for a renovation," mentioning "old doors," "dated decor," and "sketchy elevators." This indicates that while the location is convenient, some aspects of the physical plant might show signs of age. However, the grounds themselves are generally well-maintained, with free self-parking available for guests. The atmosphere is designed to be welcoming, and the focus is on providing a functional base for guests to explore the Newark/Wilmington area.
The TownePlace Suites Wilmington Newark/Christiana offers a range of services tailored to both short and extended stays, prioritizing guest convenience. A significant advantage is the complimentary continental breakfast, which ensures a convenient start to the day for all guests. The hotel also provides free high-speed Wi-Fi and wired internet access throughout the property, essential for both business and leisure. For those needing to work, a business center is available, and there are meeting facilities for small gatherings.
Recreational services include a seasonal outdoor pool and a children's pool, offering a refreshing option during warmer months. A fitness center is also on-site for guests to maintain their workout routines. For guests on longer stays, laundry facilities (self-serve) are a valuable amenity. The hotel also provides dry cleaning/laundry services for added convenience. The front desk operates 24 hours a day, aiming to assist guests with their needs around the clock. However, it's crucial to address a significant service issue highlighted by a review: "the room keys NEVER worked once." This recurring problem, requiring guests to be "escorted to our room everytime," is a major inconvenience and a critical service flaw. The lack of ID request, leading to unease about security, further amplifies this concern. While the hotel indicated "updating" door locks, the inability to provide functional keys is a severe service lapse that needs to be addressed. On a positive note, reviews often praise the "friendly and helpful" staff, despite these systemic issues, suggesting a commitment to service from individual team members.
The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing two pets up to 40 lbs for an additional fee per stay. This service is a major draw for travelers with animals, with a grassy pet relief area available on the property.
A key feature of TownePlace Suites properties is the emphasis on apartment-style accommodations, often including fully equipped kitchens. Each room typically comes with a kitchen featuring a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, and essential cookware, dishware, and utensils. This is a significant advantage for guests on extended stays, allowing them to prepare their own meals and save on dining expenses. Rooms are also equipped with a flat-screen TV with cable channels (including HBO, CNN, and Disney), a coffee/tea maker, and a spacious work desk. Many rooms include sofa beds, making them suitable for families or larger groups.
While one review mentions that the "room was nice and the bed was comfortable," which aligns with the premium bedding typically offered by Marriott, another review highlighted issues with room comfort, such as an "overpowering floral smell from the cleaning products" that necessitated a room switch, and an unreliable heating/AC unit ("mine was set to 60 but the room was in the mid 70s"). These mixed reviews suggest that while the general concept of the rooms is appealing, individual experiences can vary. The hotel offers various room types, including studios and one-bedroom suites, many featuring separate living areas and double sofa beds, providing ample space for guests. Accessible rooms are also available, with features like roll-in showers and grab bars, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. Furthermore, the hotel offers hypoallergenic bedding as an option, catering to guests with allergies.
As a Marriott property, the TownePlace Suites Wilmington Newark/Christiana participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. This robust program allows guests to earn and redeem points for stays, access exclusive member rates, and enjoy benefits such as mobile check-in and late check-out. Marriott Bonvoy members often have access to special promotions, including discounts for extended stays (e.g., "Save On 5+ Nights" or "Save on 30+ Nights"). The hotel frequently offers promotional rates for booking directly through Marriott channels, ensuring competitive pricing.
The inclusion of complimentary breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and in-room kitchens significantly enhances the value proposition, especially for guests looking to save on dining costs. The hotel also advertises "Enjoy Free Breakfast During Your Spring Travels," indicating active seasonal promotions. Government/military discounts are also available, catering to specific segments of travelers. Guests are encouraged to visit the official Marriott website or contact the hotel directly at (302) 369-6212 or +1 302-369-6212 to inquire about current promotions, extended stay rates, and Marriott Bonvoy benefits. The pet-friendly policy, while incurring a fee, is also a promotional draw for pet owners seeking suitable accommodations.
In conclusion, the TownePlace Suites Wilmington Newark/Christiana positions itself as a valuable option for those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Newark, Delaware area, particularly appealing to guests on extended stays due to its full kitchen amenities. While some aspects of the property's aging infrastructure and notable issues like non-working key cards and inconsistent cleaning/comfort experiences require attention, its convenient location, pet-friendly policy, complimentary breakfast, and the benefits of the Marriott Bonvoy program continue to make it a practical choice for many travelers visiting the region.

Apr 30, 2025 · Emma DillonThe room had an overpowering floral smell from the cleaning products; I had to switch. This is a pet friendly hotel, so you might hear some barking. Don't be fooled by the temp on the heating/AC - mine was set to 60 but the room was in the mid 70s. It's a wall-mounted unit and it was in the 20s that night so the unit was cool, so it probably thought the room was cooler
Feb 21, 2025 · John BukiewiczWorst hotel I've stayed in with the Marriott brand. Bed linen dirty. The key cards not working. Card was charged for unknown. No manager on duty to rectify situation. water was turned of for maintenance said it would be 3p and its 330p still no water. The breakfast attendant used her hand to push down trash without glove and then checked the food with the same hand. Toaster and waffle iron broken and batter foe waffles was so watery wouldn't cook in already faulty waffle iron. Complain to supervisor that was on duty. He threw the attendant under the bus in front of multiple guest. Hotel smell like mildew and curry. Make this hotel your LAST RESORT. I'm not the only person waiting to speak to a manager which they said 5min, 25 min ago. Titanium member.
May 01, 2025 · La PressleyThe hotel is in a good location, right off 95 near gas stations and restaurants. The rooms are clean, and decently sized, and the beds are comfy. Front desk young lady was a real gem, she was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is a delightful surprise, little touches make it much nicer than other hotel breakfasts, like nutella and mini spinach egg quiches, hot cocoa, chobani yogurts, cage free eggs and so much more. Overall I was very pleased with the stay, clean, comfy, great service and a GREAT value for all you're getting. Thanks, would stay again!
