BEWARE!! DO NOT RESERVE THIS HOTEL! We reserved a room here through Expedia to stay one night to break up a long car trip. I called at 2:44 pm, spoke to a very nice woman to let them know we would be arriving late - around 10:00 pm. My exact words were ‘please don’t give our room away, we are planning to be there.’ She kindly assured me that she would make a note and we would have a room. Later, at 8:29 pm I received a phone call from the hotel telling us that we no longer had a room reserved there. The clerk explained that they ‘are an extended stay facility and sometimes people just don’t check out when they’re supposed to.’ What? We were scheduled to arrive in an hour and a half and had no place to stay. It’s graduation season and so, whatever wasn’t booked was triple the rate. After 35 minutes on the phone, Expedia finally processed the refund and offered to help find a replacement hotel where we would be responsible for the difference in cost. Too little too late. We figured it out on our own causing us additional expenses and lots of frustration we didn’t plan for.

Extended Stay America - Newark - Christiana - Wilmington Introduce

For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Newark, Delaware area, particularly those in need of accommodation for more than just a brief overnight stay, Extended Stay America - Newark - Christiana - Wilmington is a notable option. Located at 333 Continental Dr, Newark, DE 19713, USA, this hotel is designed specifically to cater to guests requiring longer-term lodging, offering amenities that support a more self-sufficient stay. The hotel's phone number is (302) 283-0800 and mobile phone is +1 302-283-0800.

As an Extended Stay America property, its primary feature is the provision of "suite-style" rooms, each equipped with a fully furnished kitchen. This is a significant differentiator from standard hotels, allowing guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals, which can be particularly cost-effective and convenient for extended visits. The kitchens typically include a full-size refrigerator/freezer, stovetop, microwave, and essential cooking and dining utensils.

The environment surrounding Extended Stay America - Newark - Christiana - Wilmington is largely practical and convenient for various types of travelers. Its location off I-95 offers easy access for those traveling by car. It's situated near several key points of interest, including the Christiana Mall, a major shopping destination, and Delaware Park Racetrack and Slots, providing entertainment options. The University of Delaware is also within a reasonable distance, making it suitable for visiting faculty, students, or families. Furthermore, its proximity to Christiana Care Health System (Christiana Hospital Medical Center) makes it a common choice for those needing to be near the hospital for medical reasons, whether for treatment or visiting loved ones. The area itself is generally characterized by commercial establishments and corporate offices, reflecting its suitability for business travelers or those on temporary assignments.

In terms of services, Extended Stay America aims to provide a functional and supportive environment for longer stays. A 24-hour front desk is typically available for check-in and assistance, though customer reviews suggest varying levels of service efficiency and problem resolution. Complimentary Wi-Fi is generally provided in all rooms and public areas, essential for both business and leisure. For guests needing to refresh their wardrobe, on-site guest laundry facilities are usually available. The hotel also typically offers a complimentary "grab-and-go" breakfast, which generally includes basic items like coffee, tea, muffins, and breakfast bars. Pet-friendly policies are standard for Extended Stay America, allowing guests to travel with their furry companions, although a non-refundable pet fee usually applies. Housekeeping services are typically provided on a weekly basis for extended stays, with daily service available upon request for an additional fee, and fresh towels and linens can often be exchanged at the front desk as needed.

The features of the rooms, beyond the full kitchen, commonly include amenities designed for comfort during longer periods. These often consist of a flat-screen TV with premium cable channels, a work desk and chair, and climate-controlled air conditioning. Rooms may vary in bed configuration, offering options like king, queen, or double beds, and some deluxe studios include a sofa bed. Blackout drapes/curtains are typically provided for better sleep. Private bathrooms with a shower/tub combination, hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries are standard. Some properties may also offer a fitness center or access to a nearby one, though this should be confirmed with the specific location. The design philosophy is generally to offer a "home away from home" atmosphere, balancing essential amenities with the independence of having a private kitchen.

However, an objective introduction must also address significant concerns raised by real customer reviews, which are crucial for potential guests. A major issue highlighted is the hotel's reservation management, with one review detailing a last-minute cancellation due to current guests not checking out, leading to significant inconvenience and additional expenses for the arriving party. This points to potential operational challenges or overcrowding, particularly during peak seasons. Cleanliness is another recurring concern. Guests have reported issues such as dirty kitchens, refrigerators, and bathtubs, a lack of shower curtains, and non-working hair dryers. These cleanliness issues are a significant drawback for an establishment designed for extended stays, where guests are expected to live comfortably for prolonged periods.

Furthermore, concerns about safety and the general clientele are evident in reviews. One customer specifically mentioned being asked about their car and bags upon check-in and observing that "many at the hotel are here because this is their home and they have nowhere else to live," leading to questions about the safety of the environment. The difficulty in resolving issues directly with management, as implied by the management's generic responses to critical reviews, further adds to guest frustration. While the front desk staff might be described as "nice" in some instances, the ability to address and resolve serious problems appears to be a consistent challenge.

Promotional information for Extended Stay America - Newark - Christiana - Wilmington would naturally emphasize its extended stay model, highlighting the convenience of in-room kitchens, the value of longer stays, and its pet-friendly policy. It would be marketed to business travelers, relocating individuals or families, and those seeking an affordable base for extended visits to the Newark and Wilmington areas. The proximity to major corporations, educational institutions, and medical facilities would also be key selling points. However, prospective guests searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" and considering this location for an extended stay should proceed with caution, carefully weighing the advantages of the self-catering format against the reported issues of reservation reliability, room cleanliness, maintenance, and overall safety concerns derived from various guest experiences. It is strongly advisable to confirm reservations directly, inquire about current occupancy rates, and perhaps even seek recent guest photos or reviews to set realistic expectations for the condition and environment of the property.

Dirty kitchen and refrigerator and tub, no shower curtain, I hope the towels are clean. Hair dryer doesn't work. Front desk staff was nice. I took photos in the room. I'm here on business and when I checked in I was asked if I had a car or any bags. It seems many at the hotel are here because this is their home and they have nowhere else to live. I question how safe it is here. As you can see from the response hotel management posts they fail to resolve these issues.

This place is equivalent to a hole in the wall. The employees at the front desk are the face and Frontline but they're just not welcoming or friendly. Moving on to the establishment itself just walking the halls require a gas mask due to the strong smells of marijuana and uncleanliness of the rugs in the hallway. The elevators appear to be the bathroom for the pets because the urine smell or the smell of dog fecies is overwhelming. I asked for a cart to transport my luggage and the one I was presented with was filthy with animal hair all over it so I asked if there was another available and a member of the staff stated they only have one. After I reached my room , trying to get organized the smell of marijuana was so overwhelming in my room I reported it to the front desk but they were unable to pin point which room the smell was coming from,. Fast forward to the morning there's no creamer or sugar and no ETA on when any will be available. This is a PSA , please keep riding or if online scrolling right past this place.

Made a reservation through their website and had confirmation. Drive 8 hrs and arrive just before midnight only to be told we don’t have any rooms because house keeping didn’t get through cleaning them all. Desk person was little to no help. Told me to call customer service. After calling every number we could find I finally get someone. They now have to cancel my reservation at the location because it is after midnight. Tell desk person this and met with attitude, and was told customer service had to call them. Luckily still had representative on the phone and she overheard this interaction and dealt with it. This place sucks.

Made a reservation online 3 weeks ago and paid in advance. They called me at 6pm when I was already 5 hours into my 8 hour drive there, to say they “overbooked” and I didn’t have a room. Now I have to fight with them for a refund, and I had to pay almost triple the price to find another room somewhere last minute on a very busy weekend. Asked for a manager to call me in the morning and it never happened. This is absolutely unacceptable. Screwed me over BAD.
