Looks worse than the picture, shower alternates between hot and cool, no question about it. Some strange smell but not horrible, probable old hotel related. Other than that, other factors are fine i think. I decided tough it out the issues above bit probably not stay until these improve.

When evaluating hotels within the "Hotels Near Of Me" search, it is important to consider all aspects of a property, including both its strengths and areas for improvement. The Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick, like any establishment, has specific characteristics that may appeal to certain travelers while others might find areas that do not align with their expectations. An objective overview is provided based on recent guest experiences to assist in making an informed decision.

Environment and Ambiance: A Property in Transition

The Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick is currently undergoing "heavy construction." This significant detail directly impacts the overall environment and ambiance of the hotel. While the lobby is noted to look "clean and wonderful," suggesting that the renovated or newly constructed areas offer a positive first impression, the guest rooms present a different picture. Reviews describe the rooms as being "early 1990s at best," indicating a considerable difference in modernity and aesthetic between the public spaces and the private accommodations. This disparity suggests that while certain areas of the hotel are being updated, the room interiors may not yet reflect the contemporary design seen in the lobby.

Furthermore, one review mentions a "strange smell but not horrible, probable old hotel related." This suggests that some older characteristics of the building might still be noticeable, potentially influencing the overall sensory experience within the rooms. The current state of construction means that guests should anticipate variations in the property's appearance and facilities depending on which areas have been updated and which are still awaiting renovation. The general impression is of a property in a transitional phase, with some modern elements in the public spaces contrasting with older room aesthetics.

Services: Areas for Consideration and Potential for Improvement

The services at the Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick have received mixed feedback, particularly concerning front desk interactions and specific guest needs. One detailed account from a night-time truck driver highlights a significant issue with understanding and accommodating non-standard check-in/check-out routines. Despite clearly communicating their schedule and need for extended stay (from 4:30 AM until the afternoon to meet mandatory rest requirements), the guest was abruptly told to leave at 11:15 AM. This incident points to a potential lack of flexibility or communication breakdown at the front desk regarding specific guest requirements, even after direct consultation with the manager on duty. For travelers with unique schedules, this aspect of service could be a crucial factor.

Regarding other services, such as daily room maintenance, specific details are not provided beyond the general assessment of the rooms. The "daily cleaning team" is not mentioned in the provided reviews, so information on their consistency or quality is unavailable. While "other factors are fine" was noted in one review, this general statement lacks specific details about positive service experiences beyond the initial check-in process. This suggests that while basic services might be in place, there may not be consistently highlighted areas of exceptional service.

Features: Functional but Dated in Parts

The features of the Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick, as described by guests, reflect a combination of functional elements and areas that show their age. A notable feature mentioned is the shower, which "alternates between hot and cool." This inconsistency in water temperature can be a significant inconvenience for guests expecting a reliable and comfortable shower experience. This detail is explicitly stated as "no question about it," indicating a consistent issue rather than an isolated incident.

The core features of the rooms, while described as "early 1990s at best," are implied to be otherwise functional ("other factors are fine"). This suggests that standard amenities like beds, televisions, and basic furniture are present and operational, though their aesthetic might be outdated. The rooms are equipped with what is necessary for a stay, even if the decor or certain fixtures might not meet contemporary expectations. The hotel's ability to provide a place to sleep is evident, but the comfort and modern feel associated with newer establishments may not be consistently present in the rooms.

The "lobby looks clean and wonderful," which highlights a positive feature and suggests that the hotel is investing in its public spaces, potentially as part of the ongoing construction. This can offer a more appealing initial impression and a comfortable area for guests to spend time outside of their rooms.

Promotional Information and Considerations for Potential Guests

When considering the Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick within your "Hotels Near Of Me" search, it's essential to weigh the information provided by recent guests. The hotel is undergoing "heavy construction," which means that while some areas, like the lobby, offer a modern and clean appearance, the guest rooms may not yet reflect this updated standard, appearing dated ("early 1990s at best"). Potential guests should manage their expectations regarding room aesthetics and amenities. The presence of a "strange smell" and an inconsistent shower temperature are specific points of concern that have been highlighted by previous visitors.

Furthermore, guests with specific needs, particularly those with unconventional check-in/check-out times, should exercise caution and ensure clear, repeated communication with the hotel staff regarding their schedule. The incident with the truck driver suggests that flexible accommodation of unique guest requirements might be an area for improvement in service delivery.

The overall promotional message for the Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick, based on these reviews, would need to acknowledge its current state of renovation. It could appeal to travelers who prioritize affordability and a basic, functional stay, especially if they are primarily seeking a place to sleep and are less concerned with modern room amenities or consistent hot water. The revamped lobby may offer a more pleasant public space for guests. However, for those seeking a highly modern room experience, consistent hot water, or a guarantee of flexible check-in/out procedures for unusual schedules, it would be prudent to inquire directly about the status of room renovations and specific service policies before booking. The hotel appears to be in a transition phase, with potential for significant improvement once the construction is complete, but its current state offers a varied guest experience.

I am a night-time truck driver. I purchase my room in the AM and leave in the PM. Today I purchased my room at 4:30 AM. I talked to the manager on duty and told him I was leaving in the afternoon and to charge my credit card appropriately. I do this five days a week, I know the routine pretty well. He told me it was not a problem and I went to sleep. At 11:15 am the front desk is pounding on my door, telling me it’s time to leave. If you were not aware, Truck drivers are required to have 10 hours off, that’s why I told him I would be leaving in the afternoon. The hotel is currently under heavy construction. The lobby looks clean and wonderful, but the rooms are early 1990s at best.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The staff was unprofessional and unhelpful, with no proper room service. The room key cards didn’t work properly, forcing me to visit the reception twice for assistance. We booked a room with two beds, but one bed didn’t have a blanket. When I approached the reception, the staff member initially claimed he couldn’t help because he was the only one working. After several requests, he finally provided a blanket from another room. For three guests, we were given only one towel, and again, the receptionist offered the same excuse that he had no extra towels. During our two-night stay, no one came to clean the room, not even on the second day. If you’re looking for a decent and well-managed hotel, avoid this one at all costs. And the lobby was designed in a modern architecture way but the rooms were so outdated.

Rooms definitely need some attention. Stains on the carpet, the plugs on the lamp on the nightstand were loose & wouldn't keep the plug in. The lampshade looked like it was beat up a bit. No coffee in the lobby, unless you want to spend $2 to get it from a automated machine. Also, their own website says free breakfast, but that is not the case. At least the front counter staff was friendly, & location is good.

Travelers Beware Dont let the updated / renovated lobby fool you.. soon as you step off the floors from any elevator, you will be taken back in time to about 1980 or older as the rooms, furniture, rugs, etc have not been updated since and it shows. The owner of the hotel does not give 2 craps about modernizing this place.. the furniture in the rooms are all broken, the smell of cigarette smoke and pot is in abundance in the halls and rooms. Section 8 housing people are living here with multiple people in 1 room as their new home.. I literally stayed for about 2 hours and walked out finding much better accommodations anywhere else.. They even tried charging me for 3 nights which was already used as a 3 night free stay.. I would not stay 3 minutes in this disgusting place. Soon as i saw them try and charge me for 2 extra nights for a free stay, I contacted my bank to open a dispute against fraudulent charges. Its probably the first time I ever walked out of a hotel from being disgusted by it.. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this dump.
