The service is great. Breakfast is really good a hot meal but the rooms are very outdated. My door plate came off the screws were broken. Box spring was filthy sheets inside out and tons of dust and cobwebs. Loud stomping above me but it was a work trip so it provided the basics. I did love that the company celebrates and decorated for all holidays not just Christmas. I felt included. It is very hard to cross the street but no fault of the hotel. Right next to ruby Tuesday for meal options
For those searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the Somerset, New Jersey area, the Sonesta ES Suites Somerset, located at 260 Davidson Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873, USA, is an option that may appear. The hotel can be reached at (732) 356-8000 or via mobile at +1 732-356-8000 for inquiries or reservations. This objective introduction aims to provide a comprehensive overview based on recent guest experiences, highlighting both the hotel's positive attributes and areas that prospective guests should consider.
When evaluating "Hotels Near Of Me," it is crucial to consider all aspects of a property to ensure it aligns with individual expectations and priorities. The Sonesta ES Suites Somerset presents a mixed bag of feedback, indicating that while certain aspects of the guest experience are highly commendable, others warrant careful consideration before booking.
Environment and Ambiance: A Blend of Datedness and Effort
The environment at Sonesta ES Suites Somerset appears to offer a contrasting experience. While some aspects of the hotel's efforts to create a positive atmosphere are noted, particularly its dedication to celebrating and decorating for various holidays (not just Christmas), the physical condition of the rooms significantly impacts the overall ambiance. Guest reviews explicitly state that the "rooms are very outdated." This suggests that while public areas might be well-maintained or decorated, the private accommodations may reflect an older design and wear. Specific concerns include a door plate that came off due to broken screws, a "filthy" box spring, "sheets inside out," and the presence of "tons of dust and cobwebs."
Furthermore, more severe cleanliness issues have been reported, with descriptions of "brown smudges on the walls, stains on our bed, and what appeared to be hair pieces." The presence of "visibly burnt" rugs and some furniture, along with "brown-stained" and "used" towels, points to significant deficiencies in cleanliness and maintenance within the rooms. These details create a concerning picture of the room environment, contrasting sharply with the hotel's positive efforts in holiday decorations. The presence of "loud stomping above me" also indicates potential issues with sound insulation, which can impact guest comfort and the overall peacefulness of the environment.
Services: Excellent Staff but Inconsistent Cleanliness Response
The service at Sonesta ES Suites Somerset receives high praise, with guests noting that "the service is great." This positive feedback indicates that the hotel staff, particularly at the front desk or in guest relations, are generally helpful and responsive to guest needs. However, the effectiveness of this service appears inconsistent when it comes to resolving fundamental issues such as room cleanliness. In one instance, despite immediate complaints about the state of the room, the request for a different room was denied. While cleaning services were offered and dispatched, the provided "stained sheets" and the persistence of the "same brown-stained towel" highlight a significant failure in the cleaning team's ability to rectify the issues adequately. This suggests a disconnect between the helpfulness of the front-line staff and the execution of essential services like housekeeping.
On a positive note, the "hot meal" breakfast is described as "really good," indicating a strong offering in terms of dining convenience and quality. This suggests that the hotel provides a satisfying complimentary meal, a valuable service for guests starting their day. The general service attitude, outside of the specific cleanliness issue, appears to be positive, as one guest felt "included" due to the company's holiday celebrations, which points to an effort in creating a welcoming atmosphere beyond basic amenities.
Features: Basic Functionality with Notable Deterioration
The features of the Sonesta ES Suites Somerset, particularly the rooms, are described as providing "the basics" for a work trip. This suggests that while the rooms are functional for core needs like sleeping, their condition indicates significant wear and tear. The "outdated" nature of the rooms is a prominent feature, with specific examples like broken door plate screws and visible dust and cobwebs. The reported stains on beds and walls, along with burnt furniture and rugs, go beyond simple outdatedness, indicating a lack of proper maintenance and replacement of worn items. These are critical deficiencies that directly impact the comfort and perception of hygiene within the private accommodations.
Despite these significant drawbacks, the hotel does offer certain positive features. The "really good a hot meal" breakfast is a notable amenity, providing a substantial start to the day. The hotel's proximity "right next to Ruby Tuesday for meal options" is a convenient feature for guests seeking dining choices without having to travel far. This offers an immediate solution for lunch or dinner, which can be a valuable convenience. The hotel's effort to celebrate and decorate for "all holidays" is also a unique feature, contributing to a more inclusive and festive atmosphere for guests who appreciate such gestures.
Promotional Information and Considerations for Potential Guests
When considering the Sonesta ES Suites Somerset for your "Hotels Near Of Me" search, it is crucial to balance the positive aspects, such as great service and a good hot breakfast, against the significant concerns regarding room condition and cleanliness. The hotel's staff seems genuinely committed to service, as evidenced by positive remarks about their helpfulness and the inclusive holiday decorations. The convenience of a hot breakfast and a nearby dining option at Ruby Tuesday are also clear advantages.
However, potential guests must be aware of the consistent feedback regarding the outdated and, in some cases, unhygienic state of the guest rooms. The descriptions of stains, dirt, and damaged fixtures are serious concerns that could significantly impact the comfort and satisfaction of a stay. The reported inadequacy of the hotel's response to severe cleanliness complaints is also a critical factor to consider, as it suggests a potential systemic issue in maintaining room standards.
Therefore, while the Sonesta ES Suites Somerset might offer basic functionality and a friendly service team, the information strongly suggests that guests should manage their expectations regarding the condition and cleanliness of the rooms. For travelers prioritizing modern, spotless accommodations and consistent hygiene, this hotel, based on the provided reviews, may not be the ideal choice at this time. However, for those on a work trip who primarily need a basic place to sleep and appreciate friendly staff and a hot breakfast, and are willing to overlook the reported room conditions, it might serve its purpose. It is advisable for prospective guests to directly inquire about recent room renovations or request to see a room before committing to a stay, especially if cleanliness and modern aesthetics are high priorities.

Dec 10, 2024 · Nortorious Coleman-TaylorDuring our recent stay, my family and I were appalled by the state of our room. Upon arrival, we noticed brown smudges on the walls, stains on our bed, and what appeared to be hair pieces. The rugs and some furniture were visibly burnt, and the towels provided had brown stains and looked used.We immediately brought these issues to the attention of the staff and requested a different room. Unfortunately, our request was denied. Instead, they offered to send cleaning services. While the cleaning staff did come, they still provided us with stained sheets and left the same brown-stained towel we had previously complained about. This level of cleanliness is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about hygiene and maintenance. Despite our efforts to address the situation, the hotel’s response was inadequate. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this hotel to others.
Apr 30, 2025 · Lizbeth TavarezGreat place to stay other than the fact that the wifi is non-existent. I've attached the speed test to back it up. Good luck doing anything on this wifi.
Apr 13, 2025 · Dallas FarmerieStay away from this hotel. I had to have my room changed 3 times. The first room as you walk in had this nasty smell. The furniture was torn and old. The yellow walls throughout the room were dirty and nasty. The carpet was stained severely. And someone decided to write 3 crosses above the entrance door and bedroom door. Giving the room an exorcism .This lets me know house keeping doesn’t clean the rooms at all. The second room, same nasty smell, the furniture was ripped as well and the carpet stained throughout the suite. Also the door to the room would not lock from the outside. Allowing anyone to enter the room as they choose. The third and final room, same. The carpet was stained, furniture ripped and torn. This hotel give roach motel vibes through and through. They had the audacity to temporarily charge 100 incidental fee as if their rooms were satisfactory and guess friendly. Lastly, good luck with finding parking in front. There are FedEx currier vehicles taking up all of the front parking spaces.
Aug 15, 2024 · Tracey RalphI've stayed here multiple times for an extended time as well. It's not the Waldorf, but it gets the job done. The staff is awesome and helpful. It's in need of a bad makeover/update. The carpet needs to be ripped out of all the rooms and redone. They are disgusting.
