We had a nice stay overall. The hotel is clean, and the staff was genuinely kind and welcoming. Our room was comfortable, and it’s clear this hotel has a lot to offer, especially for families. However, a few maintenance items could use attention. The shower rod in our room was very loose and close to falling off. In the pool area, the hot tub was extremely sudsy—possibly due to soap in the water—which made it concerning to use. The kids’ pool area was missing the water slide, and the basketball hoops were bent and not functional. With a bit more upkeep, this hotel could be truly great. We appreciated the friendly service and hope to see some of these things improved on a future visit.
For those of us in Wisconsin, a trip to Madison, our state capital, often involves a mix of business, family visits, or simply enjoying the city's vibrant culture. When it comes to finding a place to stay that balances convenience, comfort, and value, the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Madison Southwest, WI, is a popular choice. This hotel is known for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere and an array of amenities that are particularly well-suited for families. Located just a short drive from downtown, it offers a great home base for exploring all that Madison has to offer, from the UW-Madison campus to the Henry Vilas Zoo. This article provides an honest and detailed overview, giving you a clear picture of what to expect during your stay.
The Country Inn & Suites brand is built on a foundation of providing a reliable and warm experience, and this Madison location generally lives up to that promise. A review from a family highlighted their "nice stay overall," praising the "genuinely kind and welcoming" staff and the "comfortable" room. The hotel's appeal for families is a consistent theme, largely due to its standout pool area, which one guest called the "Best hotel pool setup I've seen for kids (that isn't marketed as a water park)." This area, with its splash pad and interactive water features, is a huge draw for anyone traveling with children. The complimentary hot breakfast is also a big hit, often mentioned in reviews as being a great way to start the day.
However, it's also important to have a balanced perspective, as some reviews point to areas that could use improvement. The same family review that praised the hotel's potential also noted a few maintenance issues, such as a loose shower rod and a sudsy hot tub, which made them hesitant to use it. The review also mentioned that some of the kid-friendly pool features were broken or missing. Another guest mentioned that while they appreciated the suite, the mini fridge was "tiny," and that there was no room cleaning until after three days. These details are important for setting expectations and understanding that while the hotel has a lot to offer, a bit of upkeep could make the experience truly exceptional.
On the other hand, the hotel's staff receives high marks for their friendliness and helpfulness. The kind and welcoming nature of the employees is a recurring point of praise, which can significantly enhance a guest's stay, even when minor issues arise. The hotel also offers a number of convenient services, such as a free shuttle to the airport and the nearby Epic Systems campus, which is a major benefit for business travelers. Despite a few noted flaws, the overall consensus is that this hotel provides a lot of value, especially for families and those who appreciate a friendly staff. With a bit of attention to the details, this hotel could be an even more polished "hidden gem" for Madison visitors.

Jul 26, 2025 · David CapistrantBest hotel pool setup I've seen for kids (that isn't marketed as a water park). Good size pool, hot tub and splash pad with interactive water features. Breakfast was okay but they lock up the seating area outside of breakfast hours, so we couldn't use the area to play cards/games like we typically do staying at hotels. We stayed in the suite and it had a tiny personal fridge. Upkeep was okay. No room cleaning until after 3 days. No attached restaurant. Gym was sub par, a few cardio machines and dumbbells to 35.
Jun 16, 2025 · EmilyJordan, a front desk worker watched my under age child wipe herself through the pool camera with pool towels and proceeded to call her out on using too many towels. He not only raised his voice at her for using “too many towels” but also sat there and watched her which is absolutely disgusting. They also refused to give clean towels to myself and family late at night because we “hadn’t brought down our dirty towels and bagged them” which is absolutely ridiculous. The next night Jordan made us bag our towels right in front of him and then proceeded to give us less towels. The employees are disrespectful, rude, and straight up creepy. If you have young children do not stay here. If you want a nice hotel, do not stay here. It is filthy to the point that dirty used diapers sat in the stairwell for days without being picked up. Management is horrible and the hotel itself is horrible too. Besides management being awful, the entire hotel smelt like cigarettes and raw seafood. There were bugs in every single corner you looked. Also if you are traveling with a service/support animal don’t stay here, at check in they told us our emotional support animal would be accommodated with no issue and hours before check out the front desk employee jordan told us we would have to pay $150 fine for our animal. Even after showing documentation of our animal. I have never had such a horrible experience at a hotel let alone encounter such disrespect staff, to the point we felt unsafe. As a country inn hotel this experience was horrifying as a person and a parent. Overall, my family and myself are left speechless with how we were treated after staying at this facility for 5 days. Absolutely disgusting behavior and this hotel as well as its staff should be ashamed.
Dec 30, 2024 · Sidney ColbyStay at this hotel if you don't mind being treated badly, and your room being dirty. This was supposed to be a visit with family for Christmas, but unfortunately, the stay was not worth the points used. Upon entering the room, the table was dirty, covered in crumbs, and a sticky liquid. There was also a dirty diaper in the stairwell for 2 days that made the hallway smell of feces. There are no smoking signs but the hotel smells so badly of cigarettes. On our second day of our stay, we walked down to get fresh towels at the front desk, and we were told no by the attendant working, named Jordan. You need to collect your dirty towels and bring them back down to the front desk to get any fresh ones. Why can't you take the room number down and mark the additional towels. Trust me when I say nobody is stealing these cheap towels. The front desk attendant was beyond rude, too. The next night I was told I needed to bag my towels to receive fresh ones. The worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. I was also told tonight at 10pm that we are being charged $150 for our emotional support dog. This was not mentioned to us upon check-in at all. We were checked in by Sean(manger), and I gave him our dogs registration for support. Had I been told I would be charged, I would have made other arrangements. Telling a customer at 10pm the night before they checkout is not appropriate. Do not waste your money or points staying here. I promise you will regret it. We have video of the front desk attendant treating us horrible. I will be posting it soon.
