We stayed over the past weekend, the experience overall was just okay. The best thing about this place is the location. It is near everything you need as far as food and shopping. The rooms are decent, clean as far as i can see and beds were also comfortable. We have so many options as far as hotels during the travel season and one thing I’m very particular on is hospitality and friendliness. The staff were standoffish especially the girl i met upon arriving. She gave us misinformation and was not very welcoming. There is only one washer and one dryer. Complimentary breakfast was not the best at all, I’ve had better. Some of the staff eventually warmed up and gave some sort of conversation and a smile here and there. The pool was open… gym was clean and efficient. The best part was the housekeeping they look like they work around the clock and very attentive to keep the property clean. The coffee could also be much better.
Hello, fellow North Carolinians! When planning a visit to Winston-Salem, whether it’s for a quick weekend getaway, a shopping spree, a business trip, or visiting loved ones, finding the right hotel is key to a comfortable and convenient experience. Among the many options in the city, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall, part of the Marriott family, often comes up as a strong contender, particularly for those seeking a familiar and reliable brand.
The Courtyard brand by Marriott is known for offering modern, functional spaces tailored for both business and leisure travelers. They aim to provide comfortable rooms, convenient amenities, and a professional environment that makes stays productive and enjoyable. For us locals, whether we're traveling across the state or welcoming visitors to our beloved Winston-Salem, understanding the specifics of a hotel like this helps in making informed decisions.

We’ll cover its strategic location, the array of services and amenities it offers, highlight its key features, and touch upon how it caters to the needs of travelers from a local North Carolina perspective. We'll also consider recent guest feedback to give you a well-rounded understanding of what to expect during your stay.
The Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall is conveniently located at 1600 Westbrook Plaza Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, USA. As its name suggests, a major draw of this hotel is its exceptional proximity to Hanes Mall, one of the largest retail destinations in North Carolina. For locals looking to enjoy a shopping excursion or grab a quick meal, this location is highly advantageous, offering easy access to a diverse range of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options.
The hotel's position within the Hanes Mall area also provides excellent accessibility to major thoroughfares, including I-40, making it very easy for travelers to arrive from other parts of North Carolina or to venture out to explore more of Winston-Salem and the surrounding Piedmont Triad region. Destinations such as Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem State University, Wake Forest University, and downtown Winston-Salem are all within a reasonable driving distance, highlighting the strategic convenience of this address.
Despite being near a bustling commercial hub, Westbrook Plaza Drive itself is often described as providing a slightly more buffered environment compared to a direct main road. The availability of free self-parking on-site is a crucial amenity for travelers, ensuring convenience and peace of mind for those driving their own vehicles. This combination of being close to essential services and major transportation routes makes the Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall a practical and accessible base for various types of visits.
The Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall provides a range of services designed to offer a comfortable and productive stay, aligning with the standards expected of a Marriott brand. Based on public information and guest feedback, here are the key services you can expect:
While the availability of The Bistro and various amenities is positive, some guest feedback suggests that the quality of food service and the efficiency of some staff members at the front desk and Bistro could be inconsistent.
The Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall boasts several features that contribute to its appeal, though it's important to consider them alongside guest experiences.
However, critical feedback indicates areas for improvement. Some guests reported staff being "standoffish" or "not very welcoming," and difficulties with "misinformation" and ringing up items. There were also concerns about limited laundry facilities (only "one washer and one dryer"), and an inconsistent coffee quality. While generally clean, some guests noted a lack of "usual makeup remover wipes, lotions etc." in rooms. These aspects suggest that while the physical amenities are present, the execution of service and attention to detail can vary.
As a Marriott brand, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall participates in various promotions and loyalty programs, offering opportunities for North Carolina locals to save on their stays.
It is always recommended to check the official Marriott website or call the hotel directly to inquire about current promotions and to ensure you are getting the best available rate for your specific travel dates.

For North Carolinians considering a stay in Winston-Salem, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall presents a suitable option, particularly for those who prioritize location and brand reliability, provided they manage their expectations regarding service consistency.
The most compelling reason for locals to choose this hotel is its highly convenient and practical location. Being just steps away from Hanes Mall means easy access to a vast array of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. For a weekend getaway focused on retail therapy, or for families needing quick access to amenities, this is a significant advantage. Furthermore, its excellent connectivity to major highways makes it a straightforward choice for travelers arriving from other parts of North Carolina, minimizing travel time and stress.
Secondly, the hotel offers the familiar comfort and amenities of a Marriott Courtyard property. The rooms are consistently described as clean and comfortable, providing a reliable and restful space. The availability of a fitness center, a seasonal outdoor pool, and on-site dining at The Bistro adds to the convenience, catering to common traveler needs without having to leave the property. The "diligent" housekeeping team also ensures a clean environment, which is a fundamental aspect of a pleasant stay for any traveler.
However, it's crucial for locals to approach their stay with an understanding of the mixed feedback on customer service. While some staff eventually warm up, initial interactions might be perceived as "standoffish" or lacking in warmth. The breakfast, while available, isn't always highly rated, and minor amenities like available laundry facilities could be limited.
In essence, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Hanes Mall is suitable for North Carolina locals who value a strategic location near commercial hubs and dependable room comfort from a known brand. It's a solid choice for those who are independent travelers, perhaps less reliant on extensive staff interaction for minor requests, and who will primarily utilize the hotel as a clean, convenient base for exploring Winston-Salem's Hanes Mall area and beyond.

May 27, 2025 · Liu BThis hotel was under stocked. Many food items not available, they ran out of pint grigeo. Check in staff had a difficult time understanding simple requests and had a hard time ringing up items from the pantry. Bistro staff also struggled with routine requests not only mine , but other patrons as well. The room was adequate and the housekeeping team was diligent. However, this property did not have the usual makeup remover wipes, lotions etc. I would definitely choose another property on my next visit.
May 03, 2025 · Lisa MoenMy family stayed here last month while my nephew was getting married. From the moment I picked up the phone to reserve the room until my family checked out, Miss Jackie ensured that our stay was comfortable. Her excellent hospitality urged me to write this review. I myself in the hospitality industry and Miss Jackie taught me how one can be hospitable and courteous to accommodate large groups like ours and trust me many of us were overjoyed (😁). The check in staff was excellent and welcoming. They understood our special request and took no time to full fill it. Bistro personnel were very polite and helpful. We can’t thank you enough. Last but not the least the housekeeping staff stayed on their toes during our stay of 120 people. I will certainly recommend this hotel due to the fact that they have Miss Jackie on their team. Thank you Jackie 🙏
Jun 05, 2025 · HaRrYI stayed here for 10 days got charged 10 different incidental fees! Not one has came back to my card! I booked for a balcony and was given the regular room and the price didn’t change when I know the balcony cost more! The elevator was on its last leg literally drop down when we got in it! Overall this is not what I’m use to at a Courtyard Marriott! Also there is no security cameras on elevator or near elevator not even on the floor to the rooms! It was real creepy!
Jun 04, 2025 · KatoshaI stayed here as a solo female traveler for work and never felt safe. Not only is the place dingy and smelly but I my room was unclean when I arrived. Not impressed at all. The common areas would have been fun but the whole lobby smelled like moldy breakfast food we never wanted to stay there and work or visit. The gym was the only good part. Skip this place !!!
