The hotel is family-friendly, allowing children aged 0-17 to stay free of charge when sharing a room with an adult. The Days Inn by Wyndham Dahlonega University Area distinguishes itself through its value proposition and strategic location in Dahlonega:
Proximity to University of North Georgia: As its name suggests, the hotel is located less than a mile from the University of North Georgia (0.8 miles), making it an ideal choice for prospective students, visiting parents, or attendees of university events. Its presence in the "University Area" makes it a top pick for those visiting the campus.
Gateway to Gold Rush History: The hotel is less than a mile from Historic Downtown Dahlonega Square (0.8 miles away), the site of the first major U.S. Gold Rush in 1828. Guests have easy access to the Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site (0.8 miles away), where they can explore exhibits and learn about the town's gold mining heritage. Consolidated Gold Mines, offering tours and gold panning, is also nearby (around 0.9 miles).
Heart of Georgia Wine Country: Dahlonega is recognized as the heart of Georgia's wine country, boasting several award-winning vineyards. The hotel's location provides convenient access to numerous local wineries, such as Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery (around 4.8 miles) and Montaluce Winery & Restaurant (around 5.4 miles), offering wine tastings and tours for enthusiasts. Cavender Creek Vineyards & Winery and Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery are also within a short drive.
Access to Outdoor Adventures: Beyond gold mining and wine, the hotel is a good base for exploring the natural beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. Amicalola Falls State Park, offering hiking trails and Georgia's tallest cascading waterfall, is accessible (approximately 17 miles away). The Chattahoochee National Forest entrance is about a 10-minute drive, and the Chestatee River provides opportunities for fishing and canoeing. Vogel State Park is also nearby (approximately 17 miles).
Dedicated Staff: Despite some facility concerns, the hotel consistently receives positive feedback for its friendly, helpful, and accommodating staff. Reviewers frequently highlight specific individuals, such as the manager Jay, and the overall team, for their excellent customer service, making guests feel "at home" and ensuring a "stress-free weekend," even when changes to reservations are needed. This strong emphasis on hospitality is a significant asset.
However, it is crucial for prospective guests to be aware of the widely varying guest experiences regarding room cleanliness and facility maintenance. While some reviews praise very clean rooms, others describe conditions that fall significantly short of basic hygiene standards, including issues with toilet cleanliness and soiled bedding. This inconsistency suggests that guests should manage their expectations and consider requesting a recently renovated or thoroughly inspected room if possible, perhaps even confirming with the front desk upon arrival. The hotel's average review scores on major booking platforms (e.g., 6.8/10 on Booking.com) reflect this mixed feedback, with location and staff performing well, but cleanliness and facilities sometimes falling short.
As a Days Inn by Wyndham property, this hotel frequently participates in Wyndham Rewards loyalty programs and various promotions offered by the Wyndham brand. Guests are encouraged to join Wyndham Rewards to potentially access member-exclusive rates, earn points for future stays, and benefit from special offers. Common promotions from Wyndham may include:
Member-Exclusive Rates: Often, booking directly through Wyndham's website as a Wyndham Rewards member can yield lower prices.
Seasonal Sales: Wyndham frequently runs seasonal sales (e.g., Summer Sale, Fall Savings) that offer discounts on multiple-night stays. For example, recent promotions included saving 10% on 1 night, 15% on 2 consecutive nights, and 20% on 3+ consecutive nights.
Advance Purchase Discounts: Booking and paying for a stay at least seven days in advance can often result in savings of up to 15% on the standard rate, though these rates are typically non-cancelable.
Affiliate Discounts: Discounts for AARP members (e.g., 15% off two or more nights, 10% off one night, plus Wyndham Rewards GOLD status for 3+ nights), AAA members, and military personnel are often available.
Travel Packages: Wyndham sometimes offers bundled deals that combine hotel stays with flights or car rentals.
It is always recommended to check the official Days Inn or Wyndham Hotels & Resorts website, or reputable travel booking sites, for the most current promotions. Given the feedback on room conditions, guests should consider reviewing recent guest photos and prioritizing direct communication with the hotel for any specific room requests or concerns. While the hotel generally boasts good value for money and an excellent location rating on various booking platforms, the significant disparity in cleanliness reviews highlights the importance of individual due diligence for a satisfactory stay in Dahlonega.

May 01, 2025 · Rachael GreenbergZero stars! The room was disgusting and unsanitary. The toilet had remnants of vomit and body fluids in it as well as dried to the toilet seat. The bed blankets had various colors of body fluids and dirt stuck to it as well as holes (possibly from mites). The counter had large amounts of sticky residue (syrup?) from not being cleaned. Thankfully, the hotel across the street had availability.
Mar 30, 2025 · Jennifer PhillipsBooked this motel for price and location. Pros: Updated room and clean, comfy bed. Friendly staff and free basic breakfast. Mini fridge & microwave was convenient. Nice woodsy view of the mountains. Cons: Sketchy vibe at night—run-down cars, loitering guests. Room had a strong chemical/cleaner smell. Moldy shower in the corners and edges, no body wash provided. Inconsistent WiFi and hot water. Parking lot lights so bright it felt a bit like a prison. FYI: Thermostat is wall-controlled, not on the unit. We thought it was broken upon arrival, as it has a control panel that doesn’t work. Overall, couldn’t overcome the sketchy vibe and poor upkeep. If coming back to the area, I would opt to spend a bit more for a better stay.
Feb 02, 2025 · Eric HolzerCommunication was slightly off but not bad. No bugs and mold that we seen. Room was comfortable and clean.
May 21, 2025 · Thomas ConstantI had a wonderful time staying at this motel. The accommodations had a pleasant, relaxing ambiance and were immaculate and well-kept. The good treatment I received from the front desk staff was what really caught my attention. They made a great effort to make sure we had a great time and were very friendly. Their prompt and kind response ensured we had all we needed, even when we asked for additional towels and other amenities. Our visit was made much more delightful by their attention to detail. This hotel and its amazing personnel come highly recommended!"
