For local users exploring options within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah, situated at 180 NJ-17, Mahwah, NJ 07430, USA, presents itself as a full-service hotel offering a range of amenities typical of the DoubleTree brand. The hotel can be reached via phone at (201) 529-5880 or +1 201-529-5880. While it aims to provide a comfortable experience, prospective guests should consider available online feedback to set appropriate expectations.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah is strategically located directly off Route 17, offering significant convenience for travelers commuting within northern New Jersey or accessing New York City. Its proximity to major highways provides excellent connectivity to local corporate offices, shopping centers, and recreational areas. The hotel generally provides ample free self-parking. However, some guest reviews have specifically mentioned that the parking lot has "lots of potholes," suggesting that external infrastructure might not always be in optimal condition. The exterior lighting, particularly the "Outside main light," has also been noted as non-functional, which could impact visibility at night.
Upon entering, guests would typically expect the inviting aroma of the DoubleTree's signature chocolate chip cookies, which are offered upon check-in. The interior environment generally aims for a comfortable and contemporary feel. However, individual guest room conditions have been a point of concern in recent reviews. Issues such as "sticky carpet," "chipped paint in bathroom ceiling," and a general lack of proper ventilation in bathrooms have been reported. The air conditioning system has been described as not providing "enough air for whole room." These details suggest that while the hotel aims for a certain standard, the execution of maintenance and upkeep in individual rooms might be inconsistent. The hotel typically adheres to a non-smoking policy for guest rooms and public areas, ensuring a cleaner air environment, though guests should verify this upon arrival.
The hotel is situated within a commercial area alongside Route 17, which means the immediate surroundings consist of other businesses and road infrastructure. This environment is practical for transit and accessing amenities via car but may not offer picturesque views or extensive pedestrian access to attractions directly from the hotel grounds.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah provides a comprehensive range of services typical of a Hilton-branded property. These generally include a 24-hour front desk, ensuring round-the-clock assistance for guests. The staff aims to be helpful, though recent feedback includes instances of unhelpful or condescending interactions, particularly concerning billing issues. Guests receive the warm chocolate chip cookie upon arrival, a signature DoubleTree welcome.
For connectivity, complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guest rooms and public areas. Daily housekeeping is provided to maintain room cleanliness. In-room amenities typically feature a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a mini-fridge, a coffee maker, an iron/ironing board, and a hairdryer. However, specific functional issues have been noted, such as bathroom doors not being lockable. The hotel is generally pet-friendly, allowing pets for a fee, a convenience for travelers with companions.
A significant concern highlighted in recent reviews relates to billing practices. Guests have reported being charged daily for their stay at varying amounts, and then again for the entire stay upon checkout, leading to confusion and multiple explanations that did not resolve the issue. This suggests potential inconsistencies in the hotel's billing system or communication protocols, which prospective guests using debit cards or closely monitoring their finances should be particularly aware of. Other services might include laundry facilities, a business center, and luggage storage, consistent with a full-service hotel.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah offers several key features for guest convenience and recreation. A notable amenity is the indoor pool, providing an option for year-round swimming and relaxation. Adjacent to this, there is a fitness center equipped with various exercise machines, catering to guests who wish to maintain their workout routines while traveling. However, a significant operational problem mentioned by a guest is a non-working elevator, forcing guests to use stairs, which can be particularly challenging with luggage and children. This indicates that key facilities may experience maintenance issues.
Dining at the hotel is provided through an on-site restaurant and lounge, typically serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This offers a convenient option for guests who prefer to dine within the hotel premises. Room service is also generally available. The hotel also features a gift shop/newsstand for quick purchases.
For business and social events, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah offers meeting and event spaces. These typically include ballrooms and various meeting rooms equipped with audio-visual capabilities, catering to conferences, weddings, and other gatherings. The exact square footage and capacity would vary, but it's designed to be a versatile venue for corporate and social functions in the area. The hotel provides accessibility features, such as accessible guest rooms and common areas, though specific details regarding their functionality should be verified.
As a DoubleTree by Hilton property, the hotel participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty program. This affiliation provides significant promotional opportunities for members, including earning and redeeming points for stays, access to member-exclusive rates, and potential for elite status benefits. Hilton often runs various promotions, such as seasonal discounts or package deals (e.g., "Stay Longer and Save," or "Breakfast Included" packages), which prospective guests can explore on the Hilton website or through direct booking.
However, it is crucial for local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me" to carefully weigh the promotional information against the specific guest reviews. While the hotel aims to offer a comfortable experience as part of the Hilton brand, recent feedback indicates significant challenges. Issues such as multiple unexplained charges, condescending staff interactions, and operational problems with key facilities like elevators, combined with maintenance concerns in rooms (sticky carpets, lack of ventilation, chipped paint), suggest that the guest experience may not always align with the expected DoubleTree standard, which is typically considered a 4-star property. Guests expecting a seamless and well-maintained stay should exercise caution and potentially contact the hotel directly to inquire about the status of reported issues before booking. The hotel's value proposition may fluctuate depending on whether these problems have been addressed. Therefore, while promotions might make the rates attractive, it is essential to consider the potential for operational and service-related inconveniences.

May 12, 2025 · Kenny PatelIt’s so unfortunate that I have to rate my experience with 1 star. I travel 2x per month and have exclusively stayed at Hilton properties in Princeton, cranbury and mahwah. This is the first time my billing was charged each day for my stay - and a totally different amount that what I booked for. And then charged for my entire stay when I checked out. I’ve only ever used a debit card when traveling and literally never experienced this. $165 + 165 and 146 then $429 for a 3 night stay. Got 3 different explanations for the variance in charges - no one could explain. The GM on site today was condescending and not genuinely helpful in any way. I’ve had the most pleasant experience up to this point and incredibly disappointed by this interaction. Enough to write this review and look elsewhere.
Mar 27, 2025 · MelissaThis has to be the worst Hilton property I've ever stayed in. Furniture was in horrible condition, the halls and room had a strange musty smell. I actually removed and washed the air conditioner filter as they were caked with dirt. That didn't remove the smell, but the air circulation was improved. The elevator floor was filthy. There was what looked to be chewed chicken on the floor. The location was good, but there are better hotels on Route 17 within a mile of this place.
Apr 30, 2025 · Troy PelfreyThey were renovating one of the two elevators when I stayed. Modest hotel w super friendly service. And freshly baked steaming hot homemade cookies. Clean room. Zero complaints.
Feb 24, 2025 · Nario ComStaff was professional and attentive. Even though the hotel is going through a renovation, everything was done to accommodate and make us comfortable. Also the restaurant is fantastic!
