Location was decent. Don't stay here unless you have had a recent tetanus shot! The most disgusting room I have ever stayed in. Tape holding up the air conditioner, food crusty splatter on the wall. The room looks like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Housekeeping needs to be retrained. Pee (not ours) in the shower, debris on the carpet and tile. I could have overlooked the repairs that are needed, but the cleanliness was appalling.
For Illinois residents planning a trip to the northern suburbs, whether for a family event, a visit to a military base, or a weekend getaway, finding the right hotel is a crucial step. The Executive Inn and Suites in Waukegan is one of the lodging options available in this area. As a property that has been serving travelers for some time, it offers a location that is convenient for accessing many of the region’s key destinations. This article is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the Executive Inn and Suites, utilizing public data and real customer feedback to help local users in Illinois make an informed and factual decision about their stay.
When considering any hotel, it is important to look beyond just the price and location. The experiences of previous guests can provide valuable insight into the reality of a stay. The reviews for the Executive Inn and Suites are mixed, with a number of guests raising significant concerns about the condition and cleanliness of the property. For example, one review described the room as "the most disgusting" they had ever stayed in, citing issues such as a malfunctioning air conditioner held together with tape, food splatters on the walls, and a general lack of cleanliness. Another guest echoed these sentiments, noting a "weird smell" in the hallways and stains on various surfaces, along with thin walls and noise issues. These reviews paint a clear picture that the hotel's physical state may not live up to expectations, and that a stay here could be far from ideal for those prioritizing cleanliness and a peaceful environment.
However, it is also important to acknowledge that not all experiences are the same, and different guests have different priorities. While many of the reviews are highly critical, the hotel is often chosen for its convenient location and affordable pricing. The inn’s proximity to major points of interest, which we will discuss in more detail, is a key factor for many travelers, particularly those who are primarily looking for a place to sleep and are spending most of their time elsewhere. The staff's helpfulness is also occasionally mentioned, though it does not seem to outweigh the concerns raised about the physical state of the rooms for many guests. This contrast in feedback highlights the importance of managing expectations and weighing the pros and cons carefully before making a booking.
The Executive Inn and Suites is located at 680 S Green Bay Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085, USA. This address places it in a highly accessible area of Waukegan, just a short drive from major highways like I-94 (the Tri-State Tollway). For Illinois residents traveling from Chicago or other parts of the state, the inn's location is a practical choice. It provides a convenient base for exploring the North Shore suburbs without having to navigate the traffic of downtown Chicago.
One of the main draws of this hotel is its proximity to key destinations in the area. It is situated very close to the Naval Station Great Lakes, a major reason for many travelers' visits. Families attending a son's or daughter's graduation will find the short commute a definite advantage. The inn is also just a few miles from popular attractions like Six Flags Great America and the Gurnee Mills outlet mall, making it a potential option for budget-conscious families on a vacation. Its location on Green Bay Road also means there are various dining and shopping options within a short drive. However, as noted in a review, the convenience of the location must be balanced against the potential for an uncomfortable stay.

In conclusion, the Executive Inn and Suites in Waukegan is a hotel that, for Illinois locals, offers a simple and affordable lodging option in a very convenient location. Its primary appeal lies in its proximity to significant destinations like Naval Station Great Lakes and Six Flags Great America. However, the feedback from real customers provides a stark and compelling reason for caution. The extensive and specific complaints about the lack of cleanliness, maintenance issues, and general disrepair cannot be ignored. For a traveler whose priority is an extremely low price and a close location, and who is willing to overlook significant issues, this inn might be a consideration.
For the vast majority of Illinois residents, especially those traveling with family, the reviews suggest that this hotel may not be the best choice. While the staff may be pleasant, their service cannot compensate for the fundamental issues with the property's condition. It is highly recommended that you take all of this information into account and read recent reviews from multiple sources before making a final decision. The article is intended to provide a full and honest picture so that you can find a hotel that best suits your needs and ensures a pleasant and safe stay in the Waukegan area.

Jun 12, 2025 · M BarnhartThis hotel would not be my first choice, nor my last choice. I made the mistake of not looking at the reviews and just looking at the pictures provided. Unfortunately for me, those pictures must have been at least a decade old. The front desk people were nice, but the simple interaction couldn't save the experience. The hallways had a werid smell to them, which I couldn't place. When I got to the room, I was floored. There were stains on the counter, floors, comforter, and walls, which I didn't even want to know how they got there. The AC was ducktaped to the wall, and the hair dryer didn't even work. There were clumps of hair behind the toilet, and the trash bag wasn't even a trash bag but a home depot grocery bag. The bed frame made a gunshot noise every time you accidentally hit it or moved werid on the bed, scaring me several times during the night. The walls were so thin that you could hear the person next door just turning on a light. Don't forget the entertainment of the people next door fighting in the middle of the night. Personally, I just hope this will be the worst hotel I ever have to stay in.
Jul 29, 2025 · Alejandra AguilarThis hotel was a masterclass in how NOT to run a hospitality business. Honestly, I’ve stayed in cleaner gas station bathrooms. We booked four nights for a Navy graduation (nearly $600. Yes, you read that right), and I can confidently say the hotel should’ve paid me to endure it. Let’s start with the “non-smoking” room that smelled like a Marlboro ashtray. The hallways reeked of weed. Not subtle, not faint, just full-blown skunk factory. To complete the ambiance, there was someone yelling and swearing in one of the rooms so loudly, I knew their full life story by the time I got to our door. Now, the room. A true horror show. There were mysterious splatters on the walls, sink, and counters of substances I did not want to identify. The walls had layers of dust like the place had been abandoned for a decade. The remote was sticky (WHY?), and there was a used Q-tip just chillin’ on the floor. The bathroom? A biohazard. Dried piss around the toilet, sludge in the sinks, and an overall scent that said, “we gave up years ago.” I wouldn’t even let my kids walk barefoot or sit on the floor. And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, the carpet in the middle of the room was peeling back, exposing sharp tack strips. I stepped on one, bled, and am now patiently waiting to see which medieval disease I contracted. So that’s fun. To be fair, the towels and sheets were clean, and the mini fridge and microwave looked brand new, which is great if your standards stop at appliance freshness. We didn’t even stay the full time. We bolted early and chalked it up as a cautionary tale. Unless you’re conducting a personal experiment in how low your standards can go, avoid this place like the plague. The front desk staff on the other hand were extremely nice.
Jun 29, 2025 · Jay KingThe front desk individual AND the manager(at least the individual I was 'told' was a manager) are lacking in customer service alongside with sensitivity training. The local police department had to be called in order for me to receive a partial refund! Being banned is the least of my concerns since, I will choose to sleep on the streets in the FREEZING midwest cold before I consider this place! Sleep out in the freezing cold midwest streets I stated...THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE! After I showed pictures, they both...BOTH dismissed my concerns and refused to switch my room! I didn't even know 'smoking' hotels existed in 2024! I got a smoking room AFTER I requested a non-smoking room at check-in. Please do not give this particular location any business...ESPECIALLY our service members and their families. This business doesn't represent the quality I know exists in our town. Unfortunately I can't post the pictures I took.
Dec 05, 2024 · MIKE HENDRIS GRENIERThis place is Absolutely HORRIBLE! Went for my kids Navy graduation so it was only an overnight stay. People were arguing all night next door and the bathroom was so disgusting that we didn't want to take a shower. Tried to change rooms but the nasty couple that run the hotel/motel said they were sold out. Not due to tourists but because of the people that literally live there. Cleaning lady walked into my room without knocking. And my phone in the room didn't work to call down to the front desk to complain! Everything was a NIGHTMARE! Please don't waste your money! No stars deserved but I had to give them one just to post this!
