I stay around 100 nights per year. Mostly Hampton. This is by far the worst. 3 floor is beyond filthy. Smells of either disgusting disinfectant or weed or both. Gave me a headache. Definitely choose something else. Check in staff was courteous but I had to ask for water. Just a disaster. I don’t often ask for a different room. Wish I had. This will be taken off the company list. Stayed here because the pics of room showed updated decor and walk-in shower. Non of which I had. I asked at the front desk specifically about the shower and she said yes of course it does. tubs are hard for me. Wall thermostat non functional. The only reason I chose this over the garden inn. Work travels bad enough with out this. Only plus out side of smell room was average clean with just hair under the sheets.

Hampton Inn Stroudsburg/Poconos Introduce

The Hampton Inn Stroudsburg/Poconos, located at 114 S 8th St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, USA, is a hotel within the widely recognized Hampton by Hilton brand, making it a common consideration for travelers looking for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Stroudsburg and Pocono Mountains region. As a Hampton Inn, it generally promises a certain level of consistent service and amenities, including complimentary breakfast and a clean, comfortable stay. However, recent guest feedback suggests that while some aspects live up to the brand's reputation, others present significant challenges that potential guests should be aware of.

Environment: Central Location with Varying Interior Impressions

The hotel's location on South 8th Street places it in the heart of Stroudsburg, offering convenient access to the town's amenities and serving as a gateway to the broader Pocono Mountains. Guests will find themselves within walking distance of attractions like Stroud Mansion, Sherman Theater, and the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. This central positioning is often a plus for travelers wanting to explore the local area and its dining options.

The internal environment of the hotel, however, draws mixed reviews. While some guests describe it as "very nice" and "clean," particularly in common areas, others have reported concerning issues, especially on specific floors. One review cited the third floor as "beyond filthy," complaining of strong, unpleasant odors like "disgusting disinfectant or weed or both," which could cause headaches. This suggests inconsistency in housekeeping and maintenance across the property, which is a significant deviation from the expected Hampton Inn standard.

The hotel is a 4-story building, and the mention of "no elevator" in one review conflicts with typical hotel features for a building of this size. However, other sources confirm the presence of an elevator. This discrepancy could either point to a temporary malfunction or misperception by a guest. The outdoor areas generally provide ample parking, including for larger vehicles, which is convenient for many travelers.

Services and Features: Hampton Staples with Noted Shortcomings

Hampton Inn hotels are well-regarded for certain signature services, and this Stroudsburg location generally offers them. A major draw is the "free hot breakfast," which many guests praise as "excellent," "delicious," and "great," with "many options, excellent coffee, and gluten-free choices available." This complimentary breakfast is a significant value add, especially for families and budget-conscious travelers.

The hotel is also known for its "indoor pool," which is often highlighted as "clean, warm, and a nice size for kids," providing a good recreational option. There's also a "fitness center" for guests looking to maintain their workout routines. Rooms typically come equipped with essential amenities like "refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee/tea makers," as well as "free WiFi" and flat-screen TVs. The hotel also explicitly states it is "pet-friendly," allowing up to two pets (dogs and cats only) up to 75 lbs for an additional fee, making it a convenient option for those traveling with animal companions, a feature positively noted by some guests.

However, several specific features and services have fallen short for some guests. Instances of "non-functional" wall thermostats, "hair under the sheets," and discrepancies between advertised "updated decor and walk-in shower" versus what was actually provided in the room are significant points of dissatisfaction. The lack of basic items like water at check-in (requiring a specific request) also points to a dip in the typical Hampton service level. These issues suggest that while the advertised features are present, their condition or availability in specific rooms might be inconsistent, leading to a "disaster" of a stay for some travelers.

Customer service generally receives positive comments, with staff described as "courteous," "helpful," and "wonderful." However, the inability or unwillingness to address serious room concerns, such as a guest having to ask for a different room due to filth, suggests a potential breakdown in problem resolution at times.

Promotional Information and Target Audience: Balancing Brand Trust with Realities

The Hampton Inn Stroudsburg/Poconos primarily targets "business travelers," "families," and "leisure guests" visiting the Poconos. Its strategic location, coupled with generally reliable Hampton Inn brand amenities like free breakfast and Wi-Fi, makes it an attractive proposition for these groups. The pet-friendly policy further broadens its appeal to a significant segment of the traveling public.

The hotel promotes its convenience, offering a "great location" and easy access to "restaurants within walking distance." It aims to provide a comfortable and functional stay, leveraging the trust associated with the Hampton by Hilton name. For many guests, particularly those who receive well-maintained rooms, the hotel fulfills this promise, offering a solid base for their Poconos adventures or work trips.

However, it is crucial for potential guests to go beyond the typical brand expectations and consider the very specific negative experiences reported. The issues with cleanliness, room maintenance (e.g., non-functional heating, mismatched room features), and unpleasant odors on certain floors are not isolated incidents according to some reviews. While many reviews remain positive, these severe criticisms should prompt prospective visitors to perhaps call ahead, confirm room details, and potentially request a specific type of room or floor if certain amenities (like a walk-in shower) are crucial for their comfort. While the Hampton Inn Stroudsburg/Poconos can provide a positive experience, particularly for those with pets or appreciating a central location and complimentary breakfast, the variability in guest experiences makes it a hotel where careful consideration and potential direct inquiry are advisable before booking.

We came in from Philly (left at like 4pm) w/ a medium/large golden retriever and had a really convenient room with a king sized bed (what we booked) and it’s perfect. We got the ground floor which is great for early morning dog biz and also regular work biz too with the breakfast area on the same floor. Really worked out for us on our Super Bowl vacation/bday weekend get away!

We found the place to be dirty. Pool was dirty, toenail clippings all over floor in our room. Breakfast staff standing around complaining about other staff, tables not cleaned til almost 10. Rooms only cleaned every other day and not a complete cleaning. Never had a problem with Hampton Inns, very disappointed with this one. Little toilets too very difficult for older people. Shared bathroom off lobby not cleaned daily either. Short staffed I'm assuming reason for neglect of property. Also the smoke detector in our room was covered with plastic! Someone must of climbed up on the bench to cover it probably to smoke because you can smell smoke different places in the building. That's on guests though!

The worst experience ever!! Really strong smell of cigarettes. Hair everywhere in the room and bathroom. Manager or supervisor wasn't present to resolve the issue, front desk just told unfortunately they can't do anything, and I would have to call the next day to speak with a manager. I called her but she never picked up the phone, left voice mail and nothing. Call again the next day, same thing she didn't answer, letf another voice mail and vever hard nothing back from her. Was very frustrated because i left the hotel after 30 minutes i was there, and they still charge me for the night.

Love the ambiance and full staff here. It's fresh, clean, in door pool, breakfast, coffee, and tea available all day. Check in and out is so easy with no hassle. Kid and pet friendly as well.
