The owners are very nice. The place was quite clean! For whatever reason I always pay attention to plumbing fixtures and they used mostly quality Delta stuff here which I liked. The bed was a little uncomfortable but not the worst. Some more amenities would be nice. If no small fridge in the rooms then an ice maker would be good. Didn't seem like the pub was open when I stayed which was disappointing. Beautiful woodwork and decor. Very classic. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Would recommend.

Herbert Grand Hotel Introduce

For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the picturesque landscape of Kingfield, Maine, the Herbert Grand Hotel offers a truly unique and historically rich lodging experience. Located at 246 Main St, Kingfield, ME 04947, USA, this grand establishment is not just a place to stay, but a step back in time. Guests can reach the hotel via phone at (207) 265-2000 or mobile at +1 207-265-2000.

The Herbert Grand Hotel holds significant historical value, having been built in 1918-19, on the site of previous hotels dating back to the 1830s. It was constructed by Herbert Wing, a prominent local attorney and state legislator. This three-story hotel retains much of its original character and beauty, making it a fascinating destination for those interested in history, antiques, or simply a distinctive place to stay. It has even been featured in publications like Ski Magazine and the New York Times for its charm. For guests visiting Kingfield, its central location is a significant advantage. The hotel is situated in the heart of the town, putting guests within easy reach of local attractions such as the Ski Museum of Maine and the Stanley Museum, both just a short walk away. For outdoor enthusiasts, the hotel is approximately 13 miles south of Sugarloaf Mountain, a major ski resort, and provides excellent access to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATV trails, and hiking opportunities in the Western Maine Mountains. This makes it an ideal base for both winter sports and summer adventures.

The environment of the Herbert Grand Hotel is perhaps its most compelling feature. It exudes a classic, old-world charm that transports guests to a bygone era. The architecture and interior design showcase beautiful woodwork and decor, maintaining much of their original condition from the Roaring Twenties. Despite its age, the hotel has been thoughtfully modernized where necessary, ensuring functionality and comfort without compromising its historical integrity. Reviews consistently highlight the fascinating and historically significant nature of the hotel, with guests appreciating how "everything about this place takes you back in time!" The ambiance is described as unique, clean, and comfortable, offering a pleasant and relaxing stay. It’s a smoke-free property, further contributing to a fresh and inviting environment.

The services at Herbert Grand Hotel are attentive and personalized, often praised by guests for the owners' friendly and accommodating nature. The hotel operates a 24-hour reception desk, though some sources indicate limited front desk hours (e.g., 8 am-9 pm) with an on-call manager available after hours, so it's advisable to confirm if late check-in is planned. Check-in is typically from 4:00 PM, and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Complimentary wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel, allowing guests to stay connected. Housekeeping services ensure rooms are kept clean. The hotel also offers ski storage facilities, a significant convenience for those visiting during the winter sports season. Tour and ticket assistance are available, helping guests plan their local explorations. Free self-parking is provided on-site.

The features of the Herbert Grand Hotel truly set it apart. It boasts 26 individually decorated guestrooms, each with its own character and charm, maintaining the period-correct aesthetic while incorporating modern bathroom upgrades (like quality Delta plumbing fixtures, as one guest noted). Rooms typically include private bathrooms with shower/tub combinations, complimentary toiletries, and hair dryers. While electrical outlets might require a bit of searching due to the older building structure, they are available. The beds are generally found to be comfortable, though one review mentioned a slight discomfort, suggesting personal preference may play a role.

Beyond the rooms, the hotel offers several amenities for guest enjoyment. There is a fireplace in the lobby, creating a cozy atmosphere, especially during colder months. A picnic area and tennis courts are also available. While some information suggests a pub or restaurant might be on-site (e.g., McGregor's Pub mentioned in historical context), recent reviews indicate the pub may not always be open during a guest's stay, which can be disappointing for those expecting on-site dining and spirits. It is recommended to verify the operating status of any on-site food and beverage outlets prior to booking if this is a key amenity for your stay. However, coffee/tea is generally available in a common area. The hotel is also pet-friendly upon request, though charges may apply. For those interested in unique experiences, the Herbert Grand Hotel has even been certified as a haunted hotel by Maine Ghosthunters, with Room 318 being particularly noted for those who dare.

Promotional information for the Herbert Grand Hotel can often be found through various online travel agencies and the hotel's direct channels. Given its unique appeal as a historic destination and its proximity to outdoor activities, promotions might focus on packages for ski season, fall foliage tours, or summer hiking and biking trips. Rates can vary, with some booking sites showing rates from around $55-$75 USD for a standard room, though these are subject to change based on dates and availability. The hotel often highlights its unique blend of "Roaring Twenties" grandeur with modern functionality to attract guests seeking more than just a typical hotel stay. It's often recommended for "travelers who are on the go and need a clean, convenient, and accommodating stay," as well as those with an interest in history or antiques. Discounted rates may be available throughout the year, depending on travel dates, and guests are encouraged to check for current deals.

Customer reviews paint a largely positive picture, praising the "amazing place" and the "wonderful" owners who are actively investing in maintaining the hotel's historical integrity. The cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms is consistently highlighted, along with the comfortable beds. Guests appreciate the hotel's ability to be both "original condition yet fully functional and modernized where it needs to be." The unbeatable location, offering walking distance to Kingfield attractions and a short drive to Sugarloaf, is a recurring positive comment. While minor criticisms like flat pillows (easily remedied by bringing one's own) or the pub not being open are noted, these do not detract significantly from the overall "enjoyable stay." The personalized and accommodating service from the staff is a major reason guests recommend the Herbert Grand Hotel and express a desire to return.

In conclusion, for those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Kingfield, Maine, the Herbert Grand Hotel is not merely accommodation; it is an experience. Its prime location in the heart of Kingfield offers unparalleled access to historical sites and outdoor adventures. The hotel's environment is steeped in fascinating history and classic charm, beautifully preserved and tastefully modernized. Its services, characterized by friendly and attentive owners, and features like comfortable, clean rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, and ski storage, cater to a variety of travelers. While it’s always wise to confirm the operating hours of on-site amenities like the pub, the overall consensus from guests is that the Herbert Grand Hotel provides an outstanding, unique, and highly recommended stay, especially for those who appreciate history and a personal touch.

Such an amazing place - the highlight of my trip to Sugarloaf! Fascinating and historically significant, this beautiful old hotel is original condition yet is fully functional and modernized where it needs to be - not where it doesn't. Everything about this place takes you back in time! My room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modernized yet appeared period-correct (to the extent possible). Note there aren't a lot of electrical outlets, you just have to look and find them. :) The owners are wonderful people who are investing their time and money to keep this place operating. It's just fantastic. If you're into old- or antique-anything, or history, or just want a nice, unique place to stay, the Herbert Grand Hotel is for you! RECOMMENDED!

We had the most wonderful stay at the Herbert Grand Hotel with our two pups. This was our first time here, and absolutely loved the rustic Maine charm. We found ourselves completely enamored with all the antique decorations, my favorite was the phone booths on the main floor. They are incredibly accommodating and cheerful. We booked our stay online, had no issues checking in or out, or finding our way around town. We look forward to a return stay!

This place was excellent! Loaded with old-timey decor and a pool table in the lobby. The rooms were very clean and the staff was really friendly. There was a window unit air conditioner that kept the room nice and cool. Hotel is close to restaurant and gas station and very easy to find. Would definitely stay here again the next time I travel to the region.

Beautifully elegant old building, well maintained with old fashioned furniture, fixtures and displays. Comfortable, memorable and inexpensive. Immaculately clean, with new carpets etc. My only criticism is the blinds in my room did not block enough light for me and the sun comes up early in June!
