Edit: The owner and staff addressed our concerns. We appreciate that they take feedback constructively. TLDR, The 3-star review is due to mixed experience at the hotel and the tavern. We liked the hotel but disliked the tavern. We stayed at the Rangeley Inn for a weekend ski trip at the Saddleback Mountain. Jasmine was very helpful and helped us apply the Indy pass discount. The room was immaculate - spacious, renovated and clean. We enjoyed the cozy living room with the fireplace as well. However, we went to the Tavern for dinner and were very disappointed with the experience. While the atmosphere was nice and the staff friendly, the wait was long and the food was a big let-down. The restaurant seemed very understaffed. It took us a long time to order/get food/get the check. We were not in a rush, so we did not terribly mind that. The worst thing though was that the crab cakes and the double burgers were very burned and tasted bitter. We could not finish the food. We told one of the staff about the burned food, but they did not do anything about it. We felt the experience was not worth for the price we paid.

The environment at The Rangeley Inn & Tavern is steeped in history and characterized by its classic elegance. Dating back to 1907, the inn has undergone significant renovations to blend its original charm with contemporary amenities. Guests are often greeted by a welcoming atmosphere, featuring cozy common areas like a spacious living room with a fireplace, providing a perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring. The hotel portions are frequently described as "immaculate," "spacious," and "renovated and clean," indicating a strong commitment to guest comfort and a high standard of upkeep. While the tavern experience can sometimes be inconsistent, the overall ambiance of the inn itself is generally positive, offering a quiet and comfortable retreat from the outdoors.

The Rangeley Inn & Tavern provides a comprehensive range of services and features designed to enhance a guest's stay. A significant amenity is the on-site dining experience offered at The Tavern. The Tavern aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere with a full bar and a menu that often features American cuisine for both dinner and drinks. While recent reviews indicate occasional challenges with service and food quality in the Tavern, the presence of an on-site dining option adds convenience for guests. The inn also offers an indoor heated pool and a hot tub, allowing for relaxation and recreation regardless of the weather. For those traveling with pets, the inn is notably pet-friendly, allowing two pets of any size for an additional fee per pet, per stay. Both dogs and cats are usually welcome, and well-behaved pets may be left unattended in the room. This makes it an ideal choice for pet owners exploring the region.

Guests often praise the rooms for being spacious and well-maintained. Amenities such as free Wi-Fi in rooms and common areas ensure guests can stay connected. Some rooms might offer views of the grounds or the town, contributing to the charm of the stay. Each room is designed to provide a restful night's sleep after a day of activities. The inn also offers a daily complimentary breakfast, though specific details on the offerings may vary. For instance, guests may find special rates for ski packages during winter or outdoor adventure packages during warmer months. The inn also collaborates with local attractions and events, which might lead to bundled offers. As highlighted in a customer review, discounts like the "Indy pass discount" for skiers might be available, so it's always advisable to inquire directly. For the most accurate and up-to-date promotional details and to book directly, guests should contact the inn by phone at (207) 864-3341 or mobile at +1 207-864-3341. The hotel portion of the inn consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, spacious and renovated rooms, and the cozy ambiance of the common areas. Staff members, such as Jasmine at the front desk, are frequently commended for their helpfulness and excellent service, especially in assisting with discounts. However, the experience at The Tavern, the on-site restaurant, has garnered mixed reviews. While the atmosphere is generally liked and bartenders praised, issues with long wait times due to understaffing and inconsistent food quality (e.g., burned food) have been noted. The management's responsiveness to feedback is a positive, as evidenced by their addressing concerns from past reviews. Despite the occasional dining challenges, many guests express satisfaction with the inn itself and its prime location, often indicating a desire to return for future stays, particularly valuing the overall charm and comfort offered by this historic Rangeley establishment.

Review is specifically for the Tavern, we did not stay at the inn. Rating two stars due to the weird service we received - it would be 1 but the bartender saved the night. On Sunday 2/16/25 we called ahead for a table of 4 for 6pm seating. We were greeted by the hostess and immediately shown our table. She brought us some water and wished us to enjoy our meal. We continued to sit there for 38 minutes with not a single glance from any of the wait staff, it was so long it felt intentional. Someone from our party got up and told the hostess, who hurried to the back to tell someone. Another five minutes go by and still nothing. The restaurant was not super busy and all other tables were getting attention. Finally, the wonderful bartender came over and promptly took our drink & appetizer orders. Still nothing from the wait staff. Drinks came out and we ordered entrees - again with the bartender. Apps came out by one of the wait staff - who avoided eye contact and spoke under his breath before hurrying away. Same deal with entrees. The hostess cleared. The bartender returned once more offering dessert. The waiter delivered our check without any sort of apology or acknowledgment. We decided to only tip the bartender as she was the only one ensuring we received proper service. We handed the cash tip directly to the bartender on our way out, and we saw the waiter scurry over to get some of his share. Hopefully the bartender kept it all as she deserved it. We likely will avoid coming back in the future. The previous time we had come it was not like this. Super weird, hope this review finds the manager so it can be discussed with their team because the whole situation was not acceptable. No apologies or anything, based on the glowing reviews I can’t think this is normal.

We have been visiting Rangeley for over 30 years and have never stayed. We have dined many times throughout the years. We are so pleased we decided to stay here. Service was great throughout, food good and location great! Rooms were clean and comfortable. We will be back!

Everyone was so welcoming, and the Inn was spotless and excellently maintained. It truly was a perfect getaway on a snowy winter weekend. Delicious food, delightful service, beautiful sitting areas with fires aglow in the fireplaces. Highly recommend!

Pricing was reasonable for the area, rooms were clean and we had no issues. Breakfast and dinner at the Tavern was excellent. Plenty of on site parking, so it was nice to not have to park 1/2 a mile away. I would definitely stay here again.
