My stay at the Holiday Inn was a mixed experience. The front desk staff were exceptionally helpful and kind, making check-in and other requests a breeze. They were accommodating and ensured our needs were met promptly. However, the experience at breakfast was disappointing and uncomfortable. The lady overseeing the breakfast area seemed unkind and displayed behavior that made us feel targeted, especially towards Hispanic guests. She closely monitored our group and made remarks about the amount of food we took, which felt unfair considering others were freely taking more portions. Her attitude towards us and her comments about the food were unwelcoming and frankly, unsettling. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere where we felt singled out and judged. This experience overshadowed an otherwise pleasant stay at the hotel. I hope the management addresses these issues to ensure that all guests are treated with the same respect and hospitality, regardless of background.

Located at 658 E Waterfront Dr, Munhall, PA 15120, USA, this hotel is strategically situated within the expansive Waterfront shopping and entertainment complex, providing guests with immediate access to a wide array of amenities right at their doorstep.
The Holiday Inn Express Pittsburgh E - Waterfront Dr is nestled in Munhall, PA, a suburb just a short drive southeast of downtown Pittsburgh. Its most significant environmental advantage is its location directly within the Waterfront, a large retail and entertainment development built on the site of a former steel mill. This area has been transformed into a modern commercial hub, characterized by numerous big-box stores, specialty shops, movie theaters, and a diverse selection of restaurants. Guests can easily walk to various dining establishments ranging from fast casual to sit-down restaurants, offering a convenient solution for meals.
Beyond the commercial aspects, the hotel's location also offers access to significant recreational opportunities. It is notably situated directly on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Bike Trail, a popular trail for cycling, walking, and running that stretches for hundreds of miles, connecting Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. This makes the hotel an excellent base for outdoor enthusiasts. While not in the immediate urban core, its proximity to major roadways allows for relatively easy access to downtown Pittsburgh attractions, including professional sports venues like Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field), PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena, as well as cultural institutions and universities like the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. The immediate vicinity is generally considered safe and well-lit due to the commercial development and constant activity.
As a Holiday Inn Express, the hotel is designed to provide essential comforts and conveniences for both business and leisure travelers. Key services and amenities include:
The front desk staff generally receives high marks for being helpful, friendly, and accommodating, facilitating smooth check-ins and addressing guest requests promptly. They are noted for being quick to assist even on busy weekends.
The most distinctive feature of this Holiday Inn Express is its embedded location within the Waterfront commercial district. This means guests have immediate access to a wealth of shopping, dining, and entertainment options without needing to drive. This walkability factor within a commercial zone sets it apart from many other hotels that might require driving for such amenities. Direct access to a variety of restaurants, cafes (like Starbucks), and entertainment venues makes it highly convenient. The direct access to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail is another unique selling point, particularly for cyclists or those who enjoy outdoor walks along the river, providing excellent recreational opportunities right outside the hotel.
Being an IHG property, guests can expect a consistent brand standard in terms of room comfort and core amenities. Based on guest feedback, there are a few important considerations for prospective visitors. While the hotel is generally praised for its location and cleanliness, a significant issue noted by one guest was a deeply unsettling experience during a scheduled fire drill that lacked proper guest notification, where an "attention, attention" message came from a ceiling speaker within the room, leading to confusion and discomfort. This highlights the importance of clear communication regarding such events, which guests might wish to inquire about upon check-in. Additionally, while the front desk staff are consistently helpful, a past review highlighted an uncomfortable experience with a breakfast staff member, particularly concerning remarks about food consumption and a perceived targeting of specific guests. This suggests that while overall staff performance is good, there may be isolated instances of inconsistent service. Furthermore, as mentioned, the hotel's pet policy and restrictions on local residents (within a 20-mile radius) might not be fully transparent on third-party booking sites, leading to unexpected complications upon arrival. It is crucial for guests to directly confirm these policies to avoid disappointment. Despite these points, the Holiday Inn Express Pittsburgh E - Waterfront Dr remains a popular choice for its convenient location and value, especially for those prioritizing accessibility to the Waterfront amenities and the Great Allegheny Passage.

Jan 17, 2025 · percival 0310Beware if booking on a third party site like Priceline. It is the hotel’s responsibility to have an updated policy on the site. I came here in the middle of the night due to a power outage and was turned away due to living less than 20 miles from the property and because they can only accommodate dogs on the first floor without a fee triple the nightly rate. I would never have booked if these policies were accurately reflected online. Luckily Priceline was much more helpful than this hotel.
Apr 08, 2025 · Melissa RoycroftUpdate: the hotel very kindly reached out to us and refunded our night. They also told us about all the precautions taken after we informed them of the experience. Customer service was wonderful and very much appreciated. We have stayed at this hotel several times without issue. Last night we checked into room 308, late at night and found multiple bed bugs in the room. We quickly packed all our things and went downstairs to change the room. However, when we went down and told the front desk and it was clear from her reaction she didn't believe us and didn't seem to take this seriously. She did give us another room and we checked everything and found no bed bugs. But I was definitely taken back by her lack of reaction.
Dec 29, 2024 · Samantha TurleyNOT PET FRIENDLY !! Expedia listed the property as “dog and cat friendly”.The properties own website states “pet friendly”. Buried way at the bottom of the properties website it states “dogs only” The desk clerk “Georgina” or something like that was extremely curt and rude, and repeatedly was rolling her eyes as I asked questions. Extremely unprofessional. I’m certain her attitude had more to do with the color of my skin as opposed to anything else. Even when I showed her the Expedia listing. She said that’s not her problem. She needs to be fired. The front entry was covered in huge clumps of mud. The parking lot is extremely small. The adjacent commercial lots had a sign stating no truck parking, will be towed. If you have a trailer. Do not go here. In fact…. Just book another hotel. There are plenty in the area. This property should be scored a zero.
May 07, 2025 · Jeffrey CushmanThis place is good and the rooms are clean. Helen was great in making some corrections where I was charged extra for additional room. Overall best place to stay near Pittsburgh downtown for a reasonable price for a 3-star hotel
