The two receptionists that I met were both friendly and approachable. The location was perfect as I was staying in Vermont, but needed to get to/from Hanover easily. The bus network was very useful and made this experience much nicer. The local community at White River Junction was pleasant. The hotel has a more dated style, which works well in the foyer and hallways. My room had some wallpaper peeling in places and slightly stained ceilings, but personally I do not care for these when travelling cheap. The bed, room size, ease of access and facilities were all perfect. I would revisit!

Environment: A Hub of History and Connectivity
Hotel Coolidge is nestled in the heart of downtown White River Junction, a location that is frequently lauded by guests for its convenience. The surrounding area is a vibrant local community, offering an enjoyable atmosphere with various shops, restaurants, and cultural venues within easy walking distance. Guests appreciate its "perfect" proximity for those needing to travel between Vermont and Hanover, New Hampshire, particularly for visiting Dartmouth College. The hotel benefits from excellent access to the local bus network, making it a very useful base for exploring without a personal vehicle. Being in a historic district, the hotel itself is part of a landscape filled with older, characterful buildings, contributing to a unique aesthetic. While the hotel’s vintage style is a significant part of its appeal, it also means some aspects of the building reflect its age, such as peeling wallpaper or slightly stained ceilings in certain rooms, which some travelers find acceptable given the value. The overall environment, however, provides a sense of stepping back in time, immersing guests in the rich heritage of the region.
Services: A Blend of Warmth and Practicality
The service at Hotel Coolidge often receives high praise, particularly for the staff's demeanor. Receptionists are consistently described as "friendly and approachable," contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel offers daily housekeeping, ensuring rooms are maintained throughout a guest's stay. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas, offering reliable connectivity for both leisure and business travelers. Guests have access to laundry facilities, which is a practical amenity, especially for longer stays. While the hotel does not offer a complimentary breakfast, it does provide a coffee shop/cafe on-site and some reviews suggest the possibility of breakfast vouchers for local restaurants, offering flexibility for morning dining. There is also a computer station available for guest use. The hotel features a 24-hour front desk, ensuring assistance is always available. However, a significant concern raised by a past guest involved the distribution of tips, with an assertion that tips left for room-cleaning employees were not reaching them. This specific feedback pertains to internal management practices rather than direct guest services but is an important consideration for travelers who wish to ensure their gratuities go to the intended recipients. Despite this, the hotel maintains a generally positive reputation for its accommodating and helpful staff.
Features: Vintage Charm Meets Essential Comfort
Hotel Coolidge is rich in features that reflect its vintage character. The "more dated style" of the hotel is a deliberate aesthetic choice, particularly evident and well-received in the foyer and hallways, which evoke a sense of history. The hotel has a distinctive clock on its south tower, a familiar sight in the district. Room features typically include a comfortable bed, sufficient room size, and ease of access. While some interior elements might show signs of age, essential facilities like private bathrooms with showers, free toiletries, hair dryers, and towels are provided. Rooms are equipped with desks, irons, ironing boards, and televisions with cable channels. For families, travel cribs are available, and some rooms offer connecting/adjoining options. The hotel is pet-friendly, which is a significant convenience for travelers with animals. There are meeting and banquet facilities available, indicating its capacity to host events. An on-site coffee shop/cafe, River Nutrition Smoothies, provides dining options for breakfast and lunch. A lobby fireplace and a terrace offer comfortable spaces for relaxation. The hotel also boasts an a rt gallery on site, adding a cultural dimension to the guest experience. For those associated with The Center for Cartoon Studies, Hotel Coolidge offers a unique "hostel wing" with dorm-like rentals, including shared kitchen and common room facilities, catering to a specific type of long-term stay.

Travelers interested in local attractions such as the Briggs Opera House, The Main Street Museum, and various shops and restaurants in White River Junction will find the hotel's location highly advantageous. Mar 30, 2025 · William AntcliffHotel is decent. Definitely vintage couldn’t ask for anything better for the era it was made. Was here a few weeks ago with a friend. Only issue I have is the fact that the tips I left did not go to the employees who cleaned the room. All the tips get collected by the lady at the front desk and do not get distributed to the one who works on the rooms- they get hoarded. I ran into a very nice gentleman who was working there cleaning the rooms, (helped me carry my bag) and found out he never received anything I left for him. I was then informed about how the lady at the front would rush into every room the second someone checked out, And no, I will not drop names and I will not post the pictures that I have because I believe she is in a couple of them. Just be wary when you leave Tips because they are not going to the actual employees they’re only going to the lady at the front of the house. I only mention this because I used to work at a hotel and I know that you do rely on a lot of those tips and if you’re the one cleaning the room and going out of your way to make the guest feel Comfortable and cared for then it is your tip to collect IMO Somebody should do something about management or basic human decency. I won’t be returning here when I come for my meetings. UPDATE: Upon writing this review, I then got multiple messages back, Not wasting any more time thinking about this place or even recommending anyone to ever go to this place in White River. Ever. You make your employees share their wages with other employees who don’t do the same work, That’s like making a WAITRESS take money out of her own pocket to Pay for a dish that was messed up by the kitchen. Instead of biting the hand that feeds you, you guys are literally stealing from the hands that are taking care of your hotel and your customers. Disgraceful
May 02, 2025 · Belinda ButterfieldHas a very old fashioned, historical feeling and appearance. Clean, simple, and comfortable. The old floors are a little creaky and can hear others walking a little bit in the morning where I was located by the stairs on the second floor. Still, it was unique and visually stimulating inside if you're into the antique, historical look and feel. The fire place is relaxing as well.
Apr 21, 2025 · Tim ZriedLoved our one-night stay here. Staff were friendly and it was nice to stay in a hotel that had a homey vibe, after staying in so many chain hotels. It really did feel like staying in a large house rather than a hotel. My only issue was the thin walls - we could hear everything from neighboring rooms, loud people outside, snow plows, etc., but nothing that ear plugs couldn't cure. It was a great price, and the discount voucher for the restaurant next door was a great deal. Would stay again!
Jan 21, 2025 · Amy HoskinsListen, if you're looking for a modern place, just stay elsewhere. If you enjoy old oddities, this is your place. I've stayed here a couple times now, and I love it. Sure, it's old a run down, but it is loaded with neat quirks. Does the ceiling leak in the hall? Sure, but the place is 8000 years old. One time there was an awesome dead bat hanging from the sprinkler pipe. That's freaking cool. The stairs are cool. The couches are wicked cool. David is super nice. He was listening to Animals by Pink Floyd upon check in, and he caught me humming the baseline to Sheep. This led to a fun PF discussion. The location can't be beat. Somehow there's 3 decent restaurants you could hit with a rock from your room (don't, it is frowned upon) and the town itself is a fun little oddity. If you complain about this place, then you didn't read any reviews or look at any pictures, and that is on YOU. Who knows how long this place will still be around. So, if you aren't a city slicker who needs massaging beds and non exposed electrical... this is your place. Thank you for another fun and unique stay.
