I'm a local and have been to several traveling musicals there in the last 6 months. It's a beautiful place with an old-world charm. The restaurant, bar and event rooms are beautiful, although I've never eaten there. The only improvements I can recommend are to update the bathrooms around the theater and keep them clean and stocked during shows. During intermission of a show I saw in Feb 2025, half the ladies' stalls were out of t.p. The benches on the ladies room look to be the same ones I had my picture taken on in 1986. I also wish the DE.CO food hall was open on a weekend night longer.
For local users in Wilmington, Delaware, searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," the HOTEL DU PONT stands as a prominent and historically significant option. Located at 42 W 11th St, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA, this establishment can be reached by phone at (302) 594-3100 or mobile at +1 302-594-3100. When considering a hotel for a stay, an event, or simply a visit to its amenities, understanding its environment, services, features, and recent guest experiences is crucial. Based on available information and recent reviews, here's a detailed introduction to HOTEL DU PONT.
Environment and Ambiance: Old-World Charm with Grandeur
The HOTEL DU PONT is consistently described as a place possessing "old-world charm" and a beautiful environment. This sentiment is echoed by local visitors who frequent its theater for musicals and events. The public spaces, including the restaurant, bar, and event rooms, are frequently highlighted as being "beautiful." This suggests a grand and classic aesthetic, likely characterized by rich architectural details, elegant furnishings, and a sense of historical gravitas. Such an environment is often appealing to those seeking a sophisticated and somewhat nostalgic experience. For individuals looking for hotels "near me" that offer more than just a place to sleep, the HOTEL DU PONT's grand atmosphere could be a significant draw, particularly for special occasions or a desire for a luxurious setting.
Services and Facilities: Events, Dining, and Guest Accommodations
HOTEL DU PONT offers a range of services, with its event spaces being a major highlight and, according to some reviews, a primary reason for its continued operation. It is a highly recommended venue for weddings and other organized events, with one recent guest praising a wedding as "beautifully organized and executed flawlessly." This suggests a strong event planning and catering team capable of delivering high-quality experiences. The hotel also features a restaurant and bar, which are noted for their beauty, although specific details about dining experiences are not universally positive or consistently reviewed. The presence of a theater within the hotel also indicates a commitment to cultural offerings, providing entertainment to both guests and local residents. However, it's important to note that some public facilities, specifically the theater bathrooms, have received feedback regarding cleanliness, stocking, and outdated fixtures, indicating an area where improvements could enhance the overall guest experience. The mention of the DE.CO food hall being open on a weekend night longer suggests a desire for extended dining or social options within the vicinity of the hotel, highlighting a potential area for future consideration by the hotel management.
Features: Historic Appeal and Event Specialization
A key feature of HOTEL DU PONT is its historical significance and its strong reputation as an event venue. Its long-standing presence in Wilmington contributes to its "old-world charm" and makes it a landmark in the local community. The hotel's ability to host and execute large-scale events, particularly weddings, appears to be a core strength and a significant draw for clientele. This specialization in events, combined with its opulent public spaces, creates a distinct offering within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category. For those specifically seeking a grand setting for a celebration or corporate gathering, the HOTEL DU PONT presents itself as a highly capable option. Its elegant ballrooms and dedicated event staff are likely considerable assets in this regard. However, when it comes to guest accommodations, the hotel's features appear to be a point of contention. While rooms are described as large, there are recurring comments about them being "in desperate need of repairs," having "decrepit" furniture, and their "upkeep bordering on derelict." This suggests a disparity between the well-maintained public areas and the current condition of some guest rooms. Instances of significant issues, such as a flooded room and the presence of fleas, indicate serious concerns about room maintenance and cleanliness, which directly impact the guest experience.
Promotional Information and Guest Considerations
While specific promotional offers are not available from the provided text, the hotel's strong reputation as an event venue serves as a significant promotional aspect. The positive testimonials regarding wedding organization and execution naturally attract new clients seeking similar services. For individuals searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a focus on events, the HOTEL DU PONT is likely to appear as a top recommendation within the local market. However, for those considering a stay for leisure or business, it's crucial to weigh the positive aspects of the public spaces and event capabilities against the reported issues with guest rooms. The hotel does appear to address serious guest concerns, as evidenced by a full comp for a weekend stay due to significant room issues. This indicates a willingness to mitigate negative experiences when directly confronted. Prospective guests are advised to inquire about the current condition of the rooms, perhaps requesting updated photos or specific room assignments, to ensure their expectations align with the reality of the accommodation. The contrast between the beautiful event spaces and the described condition of some guest rooms is a critical factor for any potential visitor to consider before booking, especially if the primary purpose of their visit is an overnight stay rather than attending an event.

Feb 11, 2025 · Elisa GoldmanI firmly believe the only reason this place is still in business is because it has a beautiful event space and many weddings are held there. I attended a wedding and stayed at the hotel the weekend of Valentine’s Day 2025. The event was beautifully organized and executed flawlessly. I would definitely highly recommend the venue and catering, just not having guests stay at the hotel. This is NOT a 5 star hotel. It may have been in the 80-90s but it is no longer. The rooms are in desperate need of repairs and the furniture is decrepit. The rooms are large but their upkeep is bordering on derelict. For additional context of how bad the experience was, our room flooded. Not just a little puddle… INCHES of water which accumulated overnight because of a leak in the room above. I was moved to a room on a higher floor and found a flea on my dress as soon as I put it on the disgusting old sofa. I had housekeeping/maintenance check and they weren’t able to find other fleas so we felt assured and stayed in the room. We woke up with bites. Because of all of this, they did end up comping the weekend, which we appreciated. However, I will never recommend this hotel.
Feb 17, 2025 · Olivia BrunoThis was a nice hotel for staying overnight, however I give it only two stars on service and here is why. My gf left her phone in the Green bar Saturday evening and upon inquiring at the front desk yesterday morning they stated nothing had been turned in. They did not bother to check in the back room where the lost and found is. It wasn’t until my friend pinged from her watch while standing at the checkout counter that the girls went in the back and heard the phone and brought it out to us. Just pure laziness. May want to hire some better help. E.I. is probably turning over in his grave.
Apr 07, 2025 · Steve CWhen we arrived last night the valet was so courteous and his attitude was amazing! He set the bar extremely high for the gentleman at the desk. He was ok but the valet is who put a smile on my face. Our second time here and enjoyed our stay
Dec 25, 2024 · Kenney OppelOld hotel that is in need of a refresh. Expensive for the offerings. Loud construction inside the hotel during the day, failure to refill coffee, tissues, etc. during room cleaning, excessive valet charge ($45/day). Friendly front desk staff and bar tenders.
