Kettle Creek Inn, located at 16494 Renovo Rd, Westport, PA 17778, USA, is a unique and authentic establishment within the "Hotels Near Me" category, particularly appealing to those seeking a simple, affordable stay in the heart of Pennsylvania's natural beauty. You can contact them directly at (570) 923-2442 or via mobile at +1 570-923-2442. This inn is known for its blend of casual lodging and a beloved local restaurant, serving as a hub for both residents and visitors exploring the surrounding wilderness.
The Kettle Creek Inn is nestled in a scenic valley in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, a region renowned for its pristine natural environment and outdoor recreation opportunities. It is situated along Renovo Road, providing access to the vast expanse of the Pennsylvania Wilds. This area is characterized by dense forests, mountainous terrain, and an abundance of wildlife, making it a nature lover's paradise. The inn's location is particularly advantageous for outdoor enthusiasts, with direct access to ATV trails right behind the restaurant, a significant draw for riders who can hit the trails without even leaving the parking lot.
The inn is located in Westport, a small community that offers a peaceful escape from urban life. It is approximately seven miles north of PA 120 at Westport and three miles west of PA 144. Renovo, a nearby town, is 16 miles away and hosts the annual Flaming Foliage Festival in October. The immediate surroundings of the inn offer a tranquil retreat, though guests should be aware that being a roadside establishment, some "cars outside" might be heard due to thin walls, as mentioned in reviews. However, the overall charm of the location lies in its rustic, small-town atmosphere and its integration with the surrounding natural landscape.
Kettle Creek State Park is a significant nearby attraction, offering boating, disc golfing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, picnicking, and wildlife watching. The park also features a tranquil reservoir for kayaking and canoeing, and a scenic disc golf course. Other accessible state parks and forests, such as Ole Bull State Park, Bucktail State Park Natural Area, Hyner Run State Park, Sproul State Forest, and Susquehannock State Forest, provide hundreds of miles of trails for various activities, including hiking, biking, and trout fishing streams. The area is also known for elk watching, particularly at the Elk Country Visitor Center, and stargazing at Cherry Springs State Park, which boasts some of the darkest skies in the East.
Kettle Creek Inn operates primarily as a motel and restaurant, offering "very bare bones" lodging, as described by some guests, emphasizing practicality and affordability. The inn provides 12 rooms of accommodation, all located on the ground floor, which can be convenient for guests with luggage or mobility concerns. Each room is generally equipped with basic modern conveniences such as a television, wireless internet access (though reported as "spotty and very slow" by some), a mini-fridge, and a microwave. This allows guests to store and prepare simple snacks or beverages. Private bathrooms are typically included in each room.
The most prominent service offered by Kettle Creek Inn, and a major draw, is its on-site restaurant. This establishment is highly regarded for its "home style cooking" and "traditional flavors." Reviews consistently praise the food, with specific mentions of "excellent" fish sandwiches, "incredible" fresh turkey subs (not processed cold cuts), homemade chicken and biscuits, beer-battered haddock, cheesesteaks, and Brenda's famous bread pudding. The restaurant serves all three meals, and is particularly known for its "Fish Fry Friday's" and "Liver and Onion Thursday's," which are specialty items that attract many returning patrons. The restaurant also has a bar, providing a friendly atmosphere for dining and socializing. Despite some reviews indicating that room service is not offered, the immediate proximity of the restaurant means dining is always a short walk away.
Other amenities are limited but functional. Free self-parking is available, and there are no stated pet restrictions, though guests should always confirm current pet policies directly with the inn. Given its nature as a small, independent establishment, guests should expect a more personalized, less standardized service compared to chain hotels.
The Kettle Creek Inn's most distinctive features are its authenticity, local charm, and particularly its highly-rated restaurant. It is a family-run establishment, operated by Brenda Hand and her late husband Mike Hand since March 17, 2007. This long-standing presence in the community has earned it a reputation for "warm hospitality" and a "beloved fixture in the Kettle Creek community and beyond." Guests often appreciate the "friendly staff," who contribute to a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The inn's character is often described as "funky" or rustic, appealing to those who prefer a less polished, more authentic experience.
While the rooms are acknowledged as "bare bones," their affordability is a significant draw, ensuring guests "get what you pay for" at a reasonable price point. However, it's important to note the reported issues with "thin walls," which can lead to noise from neighbors and outside cars, potentially impacting a peaceful night's sleep for light sleepers. The Wi-Fi can also be inconsistent, which might be a consideration for guests needing a strong, reliable internet connection for work or entertainment.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the exceptional quality and value of the food served at the on-site restaurant consistently stand out in reviews. The inn's historical roots, possibly dating back to the late 1930s as "Woody's Inn and Taproom," add to its unique character. The inn's direct access to ATV trails behind the property is a unique selling point for a specific segment of outdoor enthusiasts, allowing them to conveniently engage in their activities.
Kettle Creek Inn's promotional appeal primarily revolves around its value for money and its authentic local experience. It positions itself as an affordable and friendly base for exploring the Pennsylvania Wilds. Its strongest promotional tool is word-of-mouth generated by its acclaimed restaurant and the warm hospitality of its staff. The inn frequently draws customers back with its popular daily specials and themed nights, such as Fish Fry Fridays. While specific discount programs like loyalty points or corporate rates might not be as formalized as larger chains, guests are encouraged to contact the inn directly for the best available rates and to inquire about any seasonal offerings or special packages, especially for groups participating in outdoor activities.
The inn often promotes its connection to the local environment and outdoor adventures. Information about nearby state parks, hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and ATV access naturally serves as an indirect promotional tool for the inn, attracting visitors who are keen on these activities. Anniversary celebrations, like the "Cheers to 17 Years" event held in March 2024, also serve as promotional opportunities, featuring special menu items and raffles, drawing in both locals and out-of-towners. The inn's active presence on social media platforms like Facebook helps to keep its community informed about specials and events.
In conclusion, Kettle Creek Inn offers a distinctive and budget-friendly lodging option within the "Hotels Near Me" category in Westport, PA. It provides a simple, clean, and functional place to stay, serving as a practical base for exploring the breathtaking natural environment of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Its true highlight is the highly-regarded on-site restaurant, known for its delicious home-style cooking and friendly service. While guests should manage expectations regarding modern hotel amenities and potential noise, the inn's authentic charm, hospitable staff, and excellent food make it a beloved local fixture and a worthwhile choice for travelers seeking a genuine experience in rural Pennsylvania.

Sep 10, 2024 · Lynette KaneVery friendly staff, great food prices. Rooms are cheap, but very bare bones, so you get what you pay for. Had to dock it a point since the walls are very thin, so you often hear neighbors and cars outside, and the WiFi is spotty and very slow.
May 29, 2023 · Jonathan SefcikGreat place to eat! Love the breakfast, the service is amazing and very friendly. The prices are great too. If you're in the Kettle Creek area, you should at least stop here for breakfast, if not all your meals. The rooms in the motel are clean and comfortable also. Great place to check out, if you're in the area.
