⚠️ Health Hazard – Filthy, Infested, and Unfit for Families ⚠️ This was hands-down the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I was traveling with two young kids and arrived late at night, so canceling or switching hotels wasn’t an option. What made it worse is that this was the second room I was given — the first one was somehow even worse. According to the front desk, this second room was the “inspector room,” which is especially concerning given what I experienced. Here’s what I encountered: 1. The room was filthy — nothing looked clean or properly maintained. 2. The toilet was dirty — clearly hadn’t been cleaned before our arrival. 3. Roaches and bugs — I saw insects crawling around and even mosquitoes flying inside. 4. Towels were moldy and smelled bad — they felt sticky and unpleasant to use. 5. Floors were filthy — sticky, stained, and clearly hadn’t been mopped in ages. 6. No microwave, which is standard even in budget motels. 7. No hairdryer, no iron, and no hangers — not even the bare essentials were provided. 8. The refrigerator was unplugged, and when I opened it, it released a horrible, rotten smell that made me gag. I didn’t just get an unlucky room — this seems to be how the property is maintained. And if the room I was moved to was truly meant for inspections, as the front desk said, it’s alarming that this location is still allowed to operate under the La Quinta/Wyndham brand. What’s even more upsetting is that my 8-year-old, who was completely fine before the trip, fell severely ill just one night into our stay — vomiting yellow bile, shivering, and later recorded a dangerously high 104.9°F ear temperature at urgent care. She was diagnosed with a viral fever. While I can’t definitively say the hotel caused it, the unsanitary conditions absolutely raise serious concerns. I had no choice but to cancel our SeaWorld plans and return home early — heartbroken, with the entire trip and expenses wasted. This property is not safe for families, and it should not be trusted based on the misleading reviews online. Anyone who left more than one star either got extremely lucky or is leaving a fake or biased review. If there’s any hotel inspection authority or health department reading this, I strongly urge you to visit this location. It’s not just run-down — it is a potential health hazard, and it has no business housing guests in its current condition.

For Texans, the choice of where to stay in San Antonio often comes down to convenience, value, and reliability. While the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham San Antonio Lackland offers an undeniably strategic location, particularly for those connected to Lackland Air Force Base, the suitability of this hotel for locals requires careful consideration based on the overwhelmingly negative recent reviews.
Historically, a La Quinta Inn near a military base would be a straightforward choice for Texas families attending graduations or visiting loved ones. The ease of access to the base is a significant draw, minimizing travel time and stress during potentially emotional visits. For locals seeking a budget-friendly option for a short "staycation" or temporary housing due to home issues, a well-maintained La Quinta could fit the bill.
However, the severe and consistent complaints regarding cleanliness, pest infestations, lack of basic amenities, and general disrepair, as detailed in the provided customer feedback, present a serious concern. The health implications mentioned by one family, though not definitively linked, raise a red flag that no local family would want to encounter.
While the convenience to Lackland AFB remains, Texans value a comfortable, clean, and safe environment, especially when traveling with children. The reviews suggest that this particular property, at least recently, may not meet fundamental expectations for hygiene and maintenance, regardless of the brand name or location. Therefore, while its proximity to the base is a factor, locals would be well-advised to thoroughly research recent, independent reviews and perhaps consider other lodging options in the vicinity that demonstrate a consistent commitment to guest safety and satisfaction, even if it means a slightly longer drive to Lackland. The comfort and well-being of family and oneself should always be the priority.

May 26, 2025 · KaderWhile it was not the the most expensive place to stay I would have expected more. It was also not the cheapest but it was utterly disgusting and run down. The pool water was so cloudy you couldn’t have paid me to get in to. The outside of the building is in disrepair, but the lobby looked decent so I figured it could t be that bad but the entire room was so run down and gross. There was black mold, holes in wall and dirty. The ONLY thing is ha sgoing for it is it is close to the base but there are so many hotel/motels that are close and probably won’t make you wonder if you need to burn all the belongings you took into the room.
Jun 06, 2025 · Robin FournierCame here for the first time. You get what you pay for. My wife and I were in town for an event and just needed a place to stay for a night. We weren’t here for the amenities or the free breakfast or even just to hang out. We weren’t even in our hotel room until we had to shower and sleep. This is one of the smallest hotel rooms that I’ve encountered here in TX. The closet was bigger than the shower itself. If you’re 6ft or taller and med-heavier built, good luck using the toilet and showering because it’s tight. The main room area had a nice king bed and bathroom sink and lights looked new, but that’s about it. There were signs of damages to their bathroom walls and areas that need repainting. Outdoor lights were flickering, no elevators, outside looks dirty, Overall, cheap and convenient if you’re looking to stay a night, anymore than that, I’d look somewhere else. Roadway to this building was bumpy and it was shady at night. Lots of homeless people living under the bridge just outside us so I was pretty worried about my car. The staff are friendly.
Apr 27, 2025 · K. T.Not great! Had to be let in our room as our key card did not work more than once. The mini fridge went out and we couldn't keep cold drinks or leftovers. The pool and the pool area was dirty. The water needed to be cleaned. The breakfast area was always dirty. Nobody cleaned off tables as guest left and you had to eat at a dirty table or go back to your room.
Jun 13, 2025 · Nikki CanadaHorrifying. There is a 'homeless highway' (cement canal used for transit by homeless) right next to the hotel with no fence/protection. There were moldy beans in the bathroom sink drain. Cockroaches as well. The scariest/most dangerous thing, however, was the hole drilled in the window that allows the latch to be pushed open from outside. I showed this to management and they didn't care/did nothing. They offered to call the police if someone broke in... just insane. The room where the hole exists as of May/June 2025 is #119 (see pic). The only thing that this place has going for it is its proximity to Lackland. Otherwise, it should be demolished or placed under new management. I booked this because I've had very good experiences & value for the price at La Quinta. This is a glaring exception.
