This secret paradise was genuinely one of the best surprises my family and I ever stumbled upon. Rooms were all crafted to fit the theme gorgeously! Coffee and tea bar also available on the second floor. Although we couldn't stay for dining in, the breakfast included with our night's stay was scrumptious (thank you kitchen team). Staff overall was very nice and helpful; friendly people. Looking forward to future stays at this jaw-dropping fantasy of a hotel

For those in search of exceptional accommodations within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant stands as a true gem, offering a distinctive and memorable experience in the heart of Lakemont, GA. Located at 35 Andrea Ln, Lakemont, GA 30552, USA, and reachable at (706) 782-4946 or +1 706-782-4946, this historic hotel seamlessly blends rustic elegance with modern comforts, providing a sanctuary amidst the stunning North Georgia Mountains.

Environment: A Mountain Paradise with Historic Charm

The Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant is not just a place to stay; it's an immersive experience within a picturesque natural setting. Built in 1922 by August Andreae, a German immigrant inspired by tales of Tallulah Falls, it holds the distinction of being the last surviving mountain lodge on a lake in Georgia. This heritage is palpable throughout the property, which celebrated its 100th birthday in 2022. The hotel's design evokes the woodsy feeling of an old mountain lodge, with antique heart pine walls, locust log decks, and balconies offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.

The carefully restored property, which underwent preservation efforts in 2008, maintains its ancestral charm while incorporating contemporary amenities. Guests can wander through enchanting gardens of native plants, discover rock pillars and walkways, and relax on the black locust log balcony overlooking a small waterfall and koi pond – a perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. The Tree Top Deck, nestled high among pines and hemlocks, provides serene vistas for reading or simply enjoying nature. The relaxed atmosphere in the hotel encourages guests to do as much or as little as they like. The hotel's unique character and dedication to preserving its historical essence have earned it accolades, including a coveted spot on National Geographic Traveler's Annual Top Stay List for hotels in the US, Canada, Caribbean, and Mexico, and consistent Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence awards for both lodging and dining from 2011 through 2019, and up to 2024.

Beyond the hotel grounds, the immediate environment is equally captivating. Lake Rabun, one of the most beautiful lakes in the North Georgia Mountains, is just across the street, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming. The hotel is also ideally situated for exploring the region's natural wonders. Tallulah Gorge State Park, a dramatic and highly visited site, is only a 10-minute drive away, providing extensive hiking trails, rock climbing opportunities, and stunning vistas. Nearby waterfalls like Minnehaha Falls add to the allure of the area. For outdoor enthusiasts, the hotel's concierge services can assist in arranging activities such as whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River, fly fishing, horseback riding, zip-lining, and vineyard tours at local establishments like Tiger Mountain Vineyards. The area also boasts a variety of hiking trails, including sections of the famous Appalachian Trail and Bartram Trail.

One of the highlights is the complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast included with a night's stay, served on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. While some guests have noted the fixed menu for breakfast, the general consensus points to its delicious quality. This breakfast is highly rated by guests for its quality and variety. Beyond the complimentary breakfast, the hotel boasts an award-winning restaurant that has been an Open Table Diner's Choice Restaurant since 2011 and selected as a Top 10 Best Farm to Table Restaurant in Georgia. The restaurant features a creatively prepared Contemporary American menu with a Southern twist, adhering to a farm-to-table tradition. It emphasizes locally grown produce, humanely raised meats, and wild-caught seafood, with dishes inspired by a fusion of Classical French, Southern USA, and Mediterranean cuisines. One of its most popular signature dishes, the Pecan Encrusted Mountain Trout, was named by Explore Georgia as one of the “Top 100 Meals Loved By Locals.” Guests can enjoy dining in both the rustic dining room and on the dramatic Locust Log and Tree Top decks. The ambiance is casual and friendly, and the restaurant accommodates vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free preferences upon request.

For ultimate relaxation, the hotel provides a full-service day spa offering rejuvenating treatments, including deep-tissue and sports massages in its treatment room. Common areas include a coffee and tea bar on the second floor, a lounge with a baby grand piano, board games, and a TV, and a library, providing spaces for both socializing and quiet reflection. While rooms typically do not have TVs or phones, complimentary wireless internet is available throughout the hotel and in all cottages, ensuring connectivity when desired. The hotel also offers free self-parking on-site for convenience. The concierge service is a notable advantage, assisting guests with planning activities and making reservations for everything from boat rentals at Hall's Boat House Marina to zip-lining adventures, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable vacation. There is also a complimentary manager's reception held daily.

We stayed in the fish camp cabins. We really enjoyed our stay in the fish camp themselves and would have loved to use the fire pit, but sadly it was rainy most of our time there. We had both breakfast and a valentines dinner at the hotel restaurant. I must confess, I was a bit disappointed with the breakfast. It was an additional $14 per person and you have to make a reservation beforehand. Our morning, we were given plain bagels, cinnamon sugar oatmeal, and sausage as well as fruit. I was expecting to have choices, but everyone was served the same plate. I was hoping for maybe some cereal or yogurt etc as I have had more choices for included breakfasts, but I understand this is a smaller hotel. We got to have the four course valentines dinner later that day that we enjoyed for $65 per person. Everything was great! The desserts were a little rich, but we loved the atmosphere and the service.

The best hotel experience I’ve ever had. This place is so beautiful and feels like a home. The staff was so nice and kind. The rooms were so clean and cozy. The views are nice and relaxing. The breakfast was delicious. Everything about our stay was perfect. If you are staying in this area, I cannot recommend this place enough

Restaurant review We rented a house nearby and we’re looking for a place to have a birthday dinner. We made a reservation and we’re warmly greeted in a very quaint decor. Taylor was our server and she was OUTSTANDING!!! She was friendly, very happy to be there and waiting on us. She knew the menu and was able to answer questions. Taylor smiled all the time she was addressing us. The food was very good, but the steak was undercooked for one us, we still enjoyed our dinner. A week later, we are miles away still talking about how wonderful Taylor was!

My girlfriend and I enjoyed two nights here and enjoyed every moment of our stay. This is a cozy spot with interesting stone and timber architecture and plenty of porches and patios for a relaxing conversation. I was most impressed with the free breakfast on Saturday where I got a steaming plate of sausage, hashbrowns, and pancakes. We stayed in the Minnehaha room which was clean and had a cabin-feel. I will advise prospective guests to double check the view from their room before booking. A good number of them look directly to the parking lot which is not always desirable. This hiccup barely affected our experience, however, and I hope to return soon.
