For those searching for lodging within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the Guilford, Connecticut area, Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford presents itself as a budget-friendly option. Located at 2300 Boston Post Rd, Guilford, CT 06437, USA, this hotel aims to provide essential accommodations for travelers. It is part of the Red Roof PLUS+ brand, which typically signifies an upgraded experience compared to a standard Red Roof Inn, often including enhanced amenities and design elements. However, it is crucial to examine the hotel objectively, considering both its stated offerings and recent guest feedback.
You can contact the hotel directly at (203) 453-0123 or +1 203-453-0123 for reservations and inquiries. While Red Roof PLUS+ properties generally promise a comfortable and convenient stay with modern enhancements, prospective guests should be aware of the varied experiences reported by previous visitors.
Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford is strategically located on Boston Post Road, offering direct access to Interstate 95. This makes it a highly convenient stop for travelers along the New England coastline. Its proximity to the highway allows for easy commutes to nearby cities and attractions. The hotel is situated about 10 miles from downtown New Haven, providing access to Yale University, the Shubert Theatre, and various dining and cultural experiences. Coastal towns like Madison and Clinton are also within a short drive, offering beaches, shops, and restaurants.
While the location itself is practical for road travelers, guest reviews suggest that the immediate "setting" of the property might not be as universally appealing as some other hotels. One review explicitly stated, "This place is terrible. Don't stay here unless you have to." This stark feedback, combined with the general impression of a franchise property that might not adhere to consistent standards, suggests a more utilitarian environment rather than a scenic or particularly inviting one. The overall impression leans towards a functional roadside hotel rather than a destination property. However, its accessibility to major thoroughfares remains a key environmental advantage for those needing a quick overnight stop.
Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford, like other properties in the brand, typically aims to provide fundamental services for guest comfort. This generally includes complimentary Wi-Fi, allowing guests to stay connected. The hotel is also known for being pet-friendly, welcoming well-behaved pets without an additional charge, which is a significant draw for travelers with animals.
However, the services offered are severely overshadowed by critical feedback from recent guests. One review recounts a "terrible service from start to finish," including a charge of "$10 an hour to put my bags down" even when the room was empty and ready for early check-in. This indicates a potentially rigid and unaccommodating front desk policy, which directly contradicts expectations of hospitable service. Furthermore, direct concerns about cleanliness were raised regarding "hair on the sheets as if someone slept there" and a bathroom that "reminded me of the public bathrooms at Penn Station." Another reviewer explicitly stated, "I wouldn't trust the cleanliness here, or anything else." This strong negative feedback regarding core services like cleanliness and customer interaction is a major point of consideration for prospective guests. While other Red Roof properties might offer amenities like coffee in the lobby or vending machines, the specific reviews for this Guilford location suggest that fundamental service delivery is a significant challenge. Check-in is typically at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM.
Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites properties are designed to offer upgraded features compared to standard Red Roof Inns, often including larger flat-screen TVs, comfortable bedding, and modern decor. However, the customer reviews for this specific Guilford location paint a picture of features that may not meet these expectations, or at least are poorly maintained.
Key features that are generally expected from a Red Roof PLUS+ property include:
Despite these expected features, the reviews indicate significant deficiencies. The presence of "hair on the sheets" and a bathroom described as comparable to a "public bathroom at Penn Station" directly contradicts the expectation of clean and well-maintained rooms, which is a fundamental feature for any hotel. The statement "The rooms are in shambles" further reinforces concerns about the condition and upkeep of the property's features. While the hotel offers complimentary parking, the overall experience suggested by the reviews indicates that the actual state of the rooms and amenities may fall short of the PLUS+ branding.
Red Roof Inn generally promotes itself as a value-driven hotel chain, offering competitive rates for convenient, no-frills lodging. The "PLUS+" designation typically implies an enhanced experience, suggesting more modern amenities and a higher standard of comfort than a basic budget hotel. The chain often highlights its pet-friendly policy as a key differentiator, appealing to a broad segment of travelers.
However, the promotional claims of value and enhanced experience are severely undermined by the customer reviews for this specific Guilford location. One reviewer was charged "$229" for a night, which they considered exorbitant given the "terrible experience" and questioned how it could be more than "one star for $89/night." This suggests a significant disconnect between the perceived value and the actual cost for some guests. The strong negative sentiment, including advice to "Don't stay here unless you have to" and "you're better off staying somewhere else even if that somewhere else is in your car," directly counters any positive promotional messaging. While Red Roof offers loyalty programs like RediRewards, where members can earn points and receive discounts, the negative guest experiences reported here would likely deter potential enrollments or repeat stays regardless of such incentives. For a property in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the ability to deliver on basic cleanliness and service is paramount, and the reviews suggest a significant challenge in these areas for Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford.
The customer feedback for Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford is overwhelmingly negative and raises severe concerns about the hotel's operations. The phrase "I can't see why this Red Roof in Gilford would get any more than a one star rating" encapsulates the general sentiment. The service is described as "terrible from start to finish," highlighted by an unreasonable early check-in fee ("10 dollars an hour to put my bags down").
Cleanliness is a major point of contention, with explicit mentions of "hair on the sheets as if someone slept there" and a bathroom that "reminded me of the public bathrooms at Penn Station." Another reviewer states, "I wouldn't trust the cleanliness here, or anything else." The rooms are described as being "in shambles," indicating a significant lack of maintenance and upkeep. The staff, perceived as "family members, not professionals," contributes to an unprofessional atmosphere. The high price charged for such a "terrible experience" was a point of shock and frustration for one guest, who considered it an "audacity to charge $229" for what they received.
The severity of these negative reviews strongly suggests that prospective guests seeking lodging in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category should exercise extreme caution or consider alternative accommodations in the Guilford area. The feedback indicates fundamental issues with service, cleanliness, and value that are critical for any hotel stay.

I can't see why this Red Roof in Gilford would get any more than a one star rating. The service was terrible from start to finish. To start we arrived early and even though the room was empty, management wanted to charge me 10 dollars an hour to put my bags down. And when we came back and finally checked in, the bed was turned down and had hair on the sheets as if someone slept there. And the bathroom reminded me of the public bathrooms at Penn Station. Now maybe this would be more than one star for $89/night but management had the audacity to charge $229 for this terrible experience. My family wanted me to get my money back but I would rather just forget this ever happened.
Jan 06, 2025 · Paul GuipponeThis place is terrible. Don't stay here unless you have to. Red Roof Inn is a franchise, and you can tell that after one visit here. The rooms are in shambles, and the staff look like family members, not professionals. I wouldn't trust the cleanliness here, or anything else. Don't stay, trust me, you're better off staying somewhere else even if that somewhere else is in your car...
Jan 07, 2025 · GK BThe room is pretty big with a kitchette, our room was pretty clean. No laundry facilities
May 11, 2025 · DanWe did not have a great experience at the Red Roof Inn in Guilford. Sheets were dingy and stained, walls and door jams had peeling paint, and worst of all were the roaches in the bathroom. Staff said they were aware of the problem and didn’t seem very interested in making things right. We had to get our own spray and do what we could for abatement when the front desk didn’t seem phased by our complaint. Do NOT stay here.
Oct 21, 2024 · Meaghan ByrneNEVER AGAIN. First off, I did a lot of research trying to find the right hotel. I don’t know where these other decent reviews came from. 1- the room smelled like a dirty wet ash try mixed with a petting zoo. No exaggeration. We tried to air it out but it didn’t matter. 2- room itself felt so dirty. My husband and I just walked around for 20 minutes trying to figure out what we were going to do. We didn’t want to touch anything. 3- the latch that you secure your door with was missing 3 out of 4 screws. Thankfully my husband had a tool box and just fixed it himself. 4- shady characters walking around I know what you’re thinking. That I should have requested another room. But upon arrival the police were there dealing with an issue and we wanted no part of that. We also needed to get to a wedding. Upon return we just decided to try to sleep even though it killed us to get in the bed and just get the hell out of there in the morning. The smell NEVER went away.
