Freezing room when we got in, but quick to warm up when we crank up the heat (wished it had been turned on prior to our arrival). Never saw the owner (booked on AirBnB) but we got no problems finding our room and getting at ease. The beds where comfy. The building was pretty old and pretty. We were there on off-season but it felt empty (the heat turned off didn't help either). Must be better during ski season or the summer!

The Salt Ash Inn is nestled in the picturesque town of Plymouth, Vermont, a region known for its stunning landscape, surrounded by the Green Mountains. The inn's address on VT-100A places it along a scenic route, providing easy access to the area's natural beauty and historical sites. Plymouth itself was originally chartered as Saltash in 1761, a name that echoes in the inn's designation and the nearby Saltash Mountain. This area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and skiing, particularly with Killington Resort (approximately 10.9 miles away) and Okemo Mountain Resort (approximately 10.9 miles away, or around 17.6 km) within a reasonable driving distance. The inn is also conveniently located within a short drive of significant historical landmarks such as the Calvin Coolidge Homestead and the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, offering a fascinating glimpse into the life of the 30th U.S. President. Nearby natural attractions include Coolidge State Forest, offering miles of scenic trails, and Echo Lake State Park, ideal for swimming, picnicking, and enjoying nature's serenity. The environment surrounding the Salt Ash Inn combines rural tranquility with historical depth and accessibility to major recreational areas, making it an appealing choice for a 'Hotels Near Of Me' search focused on both relaxation and exploration.
The Salt Ash Inn, a guesthouse housed in a 200-year-old building, aims to provide a comfortable and homey experience for its guests. It features 17 individually decorated guestrooms spread across three floors, with some rooms offering fireplaces for a cozy ambiance. While the inn has seen changes in its operational style, its core offerings include:
Reviews from real customers offer a mixed but informative perspective. While some praise the "super nice accommodations" and "comfy beds," others highlight a decline in service, particularly regarding breakfast offerings and room cleanliness. One review specifically notes, "The room was dirty and the linens had definitely had not been washed. The towels were thin and threadbare." This suggests an inconsistent experience, especially in the "off-season." However, the "building was pretty old and pretty," indicating its inherent charm. The presence of a bar area, "used in the winter," suggests a livelier atmosphere during peak season. The challenge of finding the owner and being told to make one's own coffee points to a more hands-off approach to service than a traditional Bed and Breakfast might offer, especially at the time of that particular review. Despite these concerns, amenities like free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a fireplace in the lobby are consistently noted.
The Salt Ash Inn's primary feature is its historical significance and classic Vermont charm. Built in the 1800s, the property has a history of being a stagecoach stop, a general store, and even a post office. This deep historical roots lend a unique character to the inn. While some aspects of its operation have changed over time, its inherent "old" and "pretty" architecture remains. Other key features include:
The varying experiences highlighted in customer reviews suggest that guests should manage their expectations regarding the level of traditional hotel services, particularly during off-peak seasons. However, the inn's historical character and setting are consistently acknowledged assets.
The Salt Ash Inn promotes itself as a "Hotel Homey quarters in a quaint 19th-century inn." While direct promotional details on current deals are not extensively available online, its long-standing presence and historical charm serve as its primary draw. Promotional messaging emphasizes its unique, individually decorated rooms and the cozy common areas, including the restaurant/bar with its fireplace. The inn's appeal lies in its ability to offer a glimpse into Vermont's past, providing a sense of place that more modern accommodations might lack. Its prime location near major ski resorts and historical sites is a key selling point for those seeking both adventure and cultural immersion. For guests looking for 'Hotels Near Of Me' who appreciate historic buildings, a rustic charm, and a convenient location for exploring central Vermont, the Salt Ash Inn, despite its operational nuances, remains a notable option. Prospective guests are encouraged to contact the inn directly at (802) 672-3223 or +1 802-672-3223 for the most up-to-date information on services and availability, especially considering the seasonal nature of some amenities and the feedback regarding varying service levels.

Nov 08, 2018 路 Axel Arsenault LevesqueNot What it Used to Be.... I understand times change but this place has declined drastically. We stayed in the past when it was a Bed and Breakfast and the owner's were extremely hard workers and it showed. The current owner can be hard to find. When I finally did see him I asked about coffee in the morning and was shown the pot, coffee and filters to make it myself. I almost laughed...the owner cannot get up to make his guests a pot of coffee?? Especially for the price we paid, non-refundable at all? The room was dirty and the linens had definitely had not been washed. The towels were thin and threadbare. I gather the bar area is used in the winter (good luck with that). Our stay was a true disappointment and we will not be back.
Jul 25, 2018 路 Joanne ClarkThis establishment is awesome in its simplicity. Super cozy and clean. Not to mention the beds were really comfortable. I slept like a baby. The price was truly reasonable. The inn keepers were really friendly and gave us directions to a fantastic breakfast spot about 10 minutes away. If u want a no frills comfortable affordable place to lay your head so u can enjoy Killington and the other local places this is the spot for you!
Dec 03, 2019 路 Jennifer PrattThe entire historic Inn is the rental! What a cool experience for our large group. Everyone had their own room with full bath. The best part was the large bar area with fireplace and pool table ( not open to the public btw). We had room for games and a place to chill after skiing. The kids got us ALL involved in a three story hide and go seek/ laser tag too- the place is huge . Large kitchen and dining room with fireplace for meals along with a cozy TV room completed this amazing stay. Al was a top notch host and the location is literally 16 mins from Okemo, Killington and Longtrail Brewery. Perfect location .We will be back!
Jan 02, 2023 路 Khara FlintThe stay was ok. The room was nice and decent size for 3 people and there was heat although it did stop for a few hours in the middle of the night. There was a power outage in the middle of the day which took out the water but it was fixed at some point. It's labeled as a bed and breakfast but there is no breakfast. The bar had some pretty cool craft beers and a nice 馃敟 place.
